I saw on Twitter that Lucy said it had changed because she is recording more songs, I don't mind waiting if there is more music because of it! Well I'm hoping they put some crossover songs on it since I don't want an album that's 100% opera and I don't think most BGT viewers would. I do hope they get this album right because potentially Lucy is a very exciting prospect indeed and there isn't much else to get excited about at the moment. Astonishing to think that 2 years ago she didn't even get past the initial audition ! That's some improvement in a year ! I can't believe she didn't get past the first audition! I am excited about her too, I think she has an amazing voice. I would also like a good mix of songs, but what I don't want is another album with all the usual covers, I hope she puts some that are less well known on. It looks as though Collabro may be number 1 in the album charts this week and that bodes well for Lucy, I hope her album does really well. Susie

Quite right Susie ! The LAST thing I want is YET ANOTHER version of "Ave Maria" and "Amazing Grace." I don't think we'll get that. Nothing wrong with those songs of course, it's just that everyone does them ! As for Collabro, the reviews on Amazon are mostly favourable although one fan does not give it 5 stars due to "flaws in a seemingly rushed production." I hope I'm not saying that in my review of "Fantasia!" Collabro recorded their album in 9 days while Lucy told me on Twitter it took her 2 weeks (so 10 days ?). What's the rush ? Perish the thought that someone should be trying to make a fast buck out of them !!

I hope they use a real orchestra on Lucy's album and not a synthesized backing track which can make an album sound a bit like karaoke. Syco are noted for their short-cuts in production and their cost-cutting use of pre-recorded music in "live" shows or synthesized strings, an approach which in the past has left Mr Cowell literally with egg on his face. (Nice one Natalie!)
Lucy has been ill this week, the second time in recent months and I wonder if they are putting her under too much pressure. If I owned a record company I would give every singer 2 years to make an album (which seems to be what Hayley gets) and not 2 weeks ! Fans would be impatient and I wouldn't be very rich but that doesn't bother me as long as the finished product is worthy of the artist who made it.

I completely agree Jeff, if I had a record company I would give artists at least 2 years on an album and also encourage them to write their own songs or at least contribute to the arrangement or do something different. However, the problem is that music is a business and people wanting to get rich gets in the way of good music and so albums are recorded quickly and especially CC albums, with lots of covers to keep cost down and make the most profit and this is very depressing. I buy CDs of artists who are not well known because they write their own songs or are on labels that are not only interested in money, but in good music. I hope that Lucy's album does not have fake strings, it will not do her voice justice at all.

These days though it is a different world. You don't need a record label. You can do it yourself and many talented artists do just that. You make your music and promote it on the internet. Even make albums and promote them on the Internet. There are many who do. I will be at a concert in a couple of weeks called Songbirds in York, where all of the artists are independent of the record labels. Yet all are talented. It is a new world. It is as if those who are signed to the big labels have an unfair advantage, with the likes of Simon Cowell and his TV talent shows to launch their careers.

I thought I would post about this here as Lucy does not have her own thread and I don't know how to start one but, I saw Lucy on Weekend with Aled Jones, she did two great performances, one of La Habanera and one of Nessun Dorma. In the interview she said something really interesting which is that all the songs on the album except one will be opera arias so if this is true this album will make the classical charts and Lucy could be number one on both classical and pop charts - has that ever been done before? It would be great if an album of (almost) all opera arias could get really high in the pop charts.
It seems they are not wanting to give a track list yet which is really annoying.

Yes I've been catching up with that on the itvplayer but sadly there doesn't seem to be a way of posting a link to it at the moment. (Keep an eye on Youtube over the next few days!) She's certainly come a long way from the little girl who used to hide behind the sofa so people couldn't see her singing. Opera isn't really my thing but I thought her performance from "Carmen" was seriously impressive. The more I see of this woman the more I like her ! She'll be a good addition to the ranks of professional singers in this country I think. People will take to her and her story. She says Pavarotti's are big shoes to fill. Susie, it seems to me if you're right about the success of her album then she could start to fill the shoes of Maria Callas. In fact I tweeted her a video of Maria singing the same aria !! ) (Richard, up to you if you want to start a seperate thread but obviously there will be more news and TV appearances as the album release date draws nearer. )

Susie Hello Susie Quite true that Lucy Kay should have her own thread (and deservedly so). I will create one...its very easy...just look for the yellow 'Create Thread' box right above the list of threads in a board.

I thought her Carmen was impressive, it's easily the best I have seen from someone who does not sing in operas, I thought her french, phrasing and control were excellent and she also seems to be humble and a nice person which is good too.

We do have several clues as to the tracklist: all her BGT songs will be on it, so Vissi d'arte, Nella fantasia (is that the one non-opera track?) and Nessun Dorma. O mio babbino caro was in her showcase for the press in London recently and we know Habanera is on it too. I read somewhere she was going to perform Un bel di in the BGT Final until it was changed so that is probably there too. I told her I thought Casta Diva was the best aria ever and she favorited my tweet so it's a good bet that will be on the album too. That's 7 so there's probably another three. Operatic arias are longer than ordinary songs so I doubt we'll get more than 10 or so. Collabro have 10 tracks on their album. I've never seen a live opera. They say it's not over until the big lady sings. I say it's not over until someone dies. Carmen dies in the end. Most operas seem to end tragically. I remember my mother and her friends always used to be in floods of tears after watching La Boheme. (The girl dies in that too). At the time I was too young to realise that you can "cry in a good way" to use Lucy's expression.

Susie Yes, she's such a sweet-natured girl, isn't she ? I love the way she tweets TV and radio stations to say "Thank you for having me." It's as if she'd gone round there for her tea ! You can see her latest TV performance here. Click on Episode 35 and fast forward to 12 minutes, just after the first ad break. That would account for the higher price. The basic album is still advertised at £10.99
