The latest podcast from Lucy Kay sheds some interesting light on how Britain's Got Talent is produced after 14 minutes in. I naively thought contestants volunteered to attend auditions and some do but others are "scouted." This was the case with Lucy as ten years ago scouts visited the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and told her they were looking for a classical singer for the next series of BGT.
The night before the final Simon Cowell phoned Lucy to say he wanted her to change her song from "One fine day" to the better known "Nessun Dorma." He said she didn't have to but he owns the show and knows what will work best ! Cowell is not a man to say no to it seems ! Lucy did get £40,000 for recording her debut album "Fantasia" but no doubt Cowell made far more.
As for this year's semi-finals starting on Monday (yawns all round !) we see the results of this year's scouting. As Richard would say:"Simon Cowell strikes again !"
After this semi-final performance he's through to the final and we know what happens next !
He came 4th in the final. Sydnie Christmas won.
