It's going to be VERY interesting to see how fast her debut album sells when it comes out (probably Christmas) because we all know who holds that record at the moment. From my point of view it makes the next few months very exciting indeed, especially at a time when Hayley news is very thin. I wonder if Hayley will start a family and take a career break ?

Edit: This is a reply to a post that was deleted by Richard at Jeff's request.
Hi Jeff,
Didn't know about any of that stuff. How disappointing. If there is one way for a singer to turn me off big time, it is by embracing trashy publicity to try to sell music. I remember some years ago Hayley was asked to do something similar, but refused. One of the reasons I have such huge respect for Hayley. It is possible her career has suffered as a result, we will never know I suspect.
The likes of Madonna, Rhianna etc have always turned me off for that reason, and I don't care how good their records are, I won't ever buy them.

Martin, don't worry, you're not missing anything by avoiding Rihanna's albums. She has one song that sounds nice most of the way, but is ruined by annoying party music in between. And then of course I doubt the music video is decent to watch. It would be a good song if it wasn't for all that nonsense in between, and I've actually heard fairly decent covers of it. But mostly her songs aren't worth paying attention to. That's all very interesting to know, Jeff. Unfortunately so many in show business do turn out that way. It may not even be just because of her personal life, but also I think that what other famous people do have an influence on how more "normal" people think famous people should act, or do act. I don't know how old you are, Jeff, but your views are not just of an old person. I, too, strongly dislike the trashy side of fame, as well. In fact, this is precisely why I turned from Charlotte Church to Hayley Westenra! I've told my story on here a time or two, but I will tell it again in case you haven't seen it. I had actually heard of Hayley already at that point; we even had Pure in the house, and I did like it, though at first I was a bit biased towards Charlotte. Since I wasn't the biggest fan of that genre quite yet, it was a while before I checked on what either artist was doing. So anyway, one day when I was bored, I decided to see if Charlotte had anything new coming out soon. And did she ever! I discovered Tissues & Issues, and was immediately put off with a photo of her laying down with a rose in her mouth. I did stick around long enough to check out a few samples, but was not crazy by what I heard. So I moved on to see if Hayley had anything better to offer. And did she ever! The first song I heard was Prayer, and I was blown away by how beautiful it sounded. And every song after that was equally gorgeous, especially Never Saw Blue. I think that song was the one I replayed the most, and it's still one of my absolute favorites. After being disappointed by Charlotte, Hayley's newest music was a HUGE breath of fresh air. I was so impressed and pleased by what I heard, that I immediately put Pure on, and I wondered why I hadn't listened to her more before. Though I didn't check out any forums till 2007, I can say that that was the moment I became a real fan of Hayley. I still didn't know much about her personal life or what kind of person she was back then, but because of her beautiful music, I held out hope that she was a decent, wholesome human being. In the last 9 years (!!) she has never disappointed me, and I know now she never will. So, as far as decency goes, YES, Hayley does wipe the floor with quite a few of them. Though we know that Hayley has expressed admiration for some not-so-decent artists like Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, etc. (Again, Lady Gaga has some halfway decent songs out there, too, but her craziness and other indecent songs ruin it for me.)

Latest on Lucy. She's signed to Syco and been rehearsing a duet with Jonathan Antoine. He has a debut solo album out in October and if he tours will need a guest artist. I'm not booking for the BGT Tour as 90% of the acts don't interest me but I reckon I could take a JA concert if it meant I'd get to see Lucy. I'd need to watch my step at any signing session though. Her hobby (besides Guinness and Heavy Metal) is Thai kick boxing !

There is something I have learned to do years ago, separate the artist from the art.If a painting is good, that is enough, what the artist does in their personal life has nothing to do with it, no matter how horrific we perceive it to be. The painting stands alone. Give it a hundred years and the publicity stunts and opinion of the artist will just fade away. The same with good songwriting or performances, let them stand alone, No matter what the artist does or has done in their personal life. Madonna and Amy Winehouse have both created some great art, of that there will be no doubt.

Sorry, but many artists out there (usually female) sing songs that were written by other people, so technically, it's not their art. And even if it is their own song, I usually have no interest in it. Unfortunately the songs with the questionable themes/lyrics destroy any potential interest, no matter what else the singer/artist does. I cannot admire an artist who sings about their muffin. LOL And so often when I read comments about Hayley or other similar artists, they'll comment about how much nicer the singer is than all the other pop divas out there who strut around half naked. See, that's part of their art. When you admire an artist, sometimes you want to see them in concert, but if watching people strut around in their underwear doesn't appeal to you, then you don't want to go. Having said that, one artist I enjoy a few songs from is Pink (sometimes known as P!nk), though often the front of her actual albums will say "Explicit content" meaning there's some obscene language. So yeah, I do admire Pink as an artist, but I'm hesitant to buy her albums because of that. I haven't looked into all her music though, so I still might give her a chance, especially since there is usually a "clean" version of the song with replacement words in the songs in question. Prime example, James Blunt in the song You're Beautiful. On the radio you'll hear him say "she could see that I was flying high...". I'm sure you can guess what word flying replaced.

(On UK tour with Collabro next year so I'll be spending Valentine's night in a theatre with lots of laydeez. ) Thanks Jeff, It would be nice to be kept abreast of developments.. I am sure at some stage Lucy will reveal all. The truth about the things that were written and said about her. Some people will tell you that journalists have been known to make up stories based on the flimsiest of evidence or details or even none at all. Her promoters may be feeding gossip to the media too, just to get people talking about her. Unless of course you hear or see her on TV doing or saying something scandalous, I would take all reports with a grain of salt. I was of course going to quote "let him who is without sin, cast the first stone"

Nobody's casting stones, comet, we're just probably not going to support their so-called art. There's also such a thing as free speech, so there's nothing wrong with discussing reasons why you're put off by an artist for one reason or another. As long as you're not really mean about it, of course, and nobody has been as yet.
Anyway, didn't Jeff say she posted some pictures of herself on FB, too? So it's not just the media he was going by, but her own FB page. I have never seen a famous person be talked about in the tabloids unless, well, #1 They're usually very famous. But otherwise, it's usually because they've actually done something to get that attention. Hayley has never done anything scandalous. So, by you're logic, Hayley could still be put in the papers with false stories about her. But she's not, because they don't make up stories about people unless there actually is something to make a story about. So, I'm guessing that even if everything said about Lucy wasn't entirely true, it was at some point based on reality of some sort.

Libby,
If you don't read the press you will be uninformed. If you do read the press you will be misinformed.
I'll keep an open mind about Lucy until I see more of her.

There are times when I'd rather be blissfully ignorant, about anything you see in the press, including all the depressing news of the world.

The only reason I found out about the Daily Star article was because Lucy posted a link to it from her twitter page and seemed rather pleased that people were talking about her in that way !

Well, all this is new to her and she was a bit naive so hopefully she'll learn from the experience and be a bit more discreet next time. I still think she's one of the best British singers I've seen in years and my opinion of her just went up when I found she isn't going to charge fans £70 extra for a "VIP package" which basically means you get to shake her hand !
Her debut album is out on October 6th then a US tour follows before she tours the UK early in 2015 as you say Martin.

A US tour? That's interesting. I doubt anyone knows who she is more than they know who Hayley is.
