UPDATE 18 June 2011Libby's Paradiso Lyrics set in the forumHWI's Paradiso Lyrics page on the websiteHi everyone, Some members have mentioned that there are no printed lyrics accompanying the NZ release of Paradiso, so I thought we should start a lyrics thread. Please feel free to discuss, post and agree the lyrics for all Paradiso tracks, in any order and in whatever language. When we are happy with the posted lyrics for each track, forum moderators will be able to add them to this or the next post in the thread, for future reference. As several of the tracks are not in English, we will depend very much on help from members who can speak Italian, French and Portuguese (or whatever languages are on there!). Cheers, Dave

Good idea Dave. As you know, I like to get inside Hayley's songs, and understanding the lyrics is essential to that.

The lyrics websites always seem to get access to her lyrics somehow, so I'm sure they'll appear on those sites at some point. Most likely when the UK and/or US versions are out. Sometimes they're slightly inaccurate, though. Never Saw Blue in particular. But even when they're wrong, it's easy to correct by what you hear. I'll post the lyrics on Hayley Online when possible. In the meantime, you can go there for accurate lyrics on [nearly] all her other songs.

I agree with that Libby. Sometimes I see those lyrics and think I'm sure that isn't quite right.
But thinking about what Dave said, if this is for agreed lyrics, where can we post attempted interpreations? That's what I thought she sang, but could be wrong attempts.
We can't havce agreed lyrics unless we also have some means to arrive at an agreement.

Which is precisely why I've started this thread, anyone who wishes to is welcome to contribute, who will be first? It can't be me, as I haven't received my copy of the CD yet! EDITIs it a good idea to try and limit any posted lyrics to say one song per person per day, so that everyone including those who haven't yet received the CD will have a chance to contribute, if they wish? Cheers, Dave

Martin D good luck, i once tried to take a quote from a tv show... it took 20 attempts even with help from subtitles... your brain hears what it thinks you do, not necessarily what is... thats how rumors get started songs have alternative lyrics
its a foriegn language, to get accurate lyrics you need a native speaker to help

Hey, I just remembered that Japanese releases have lyrics inside, more often than not. At least in my experience. Winter Magic did, and that's an international release. Of course they won't have translations, but it's a start, at least. So I might have to splurge after all. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Will one of our members invite him to join HWI! Hayley? OK, lets start with an easy one. Track 4 - Once Upon A Time In The West. There are no actual lyrics, it is all "vocalese". But it includes the lowest notes I think I have ever heard Hayley sing. At the start you think you are listening to some sort of low pitched woodwind instrument, perhaps a bassoon. Then you realise is it Hayley's voice as the pitch gets higher. That one is easy, but on this album everything is absolutely gorgeous. There are many other vocal sounds and techniques we have never heard from Hayley, actually I suspect never heard from any singer before. OK another one, Track 9 Lezione Di Musica is easy to deal with too. The shortest track on the album, supposedly in Italian, but I think "Doh ray me far so la te doh" is international. The rest is vocalese. Nonetheless, it is a very clever bit of singing, with very fast sequences of notes. There is so much here, so much to savour, so much to understand, so much to ponder. I wonder if it will be too much for the casual listener, but I think it is perhaps relaxing enough to work on that level too. Thank you Hayley and thank you Ennio. I think you have created a masterpiece! I just need to get my brain round it. Martin D

We have Portuguese and French members, but do we have any active Italian members? If not, I will try to do as much as I can, when I get my CD.

It might be easier just to wait for the Japanese release for the lyrics in other languages. There's no guarantee they'll have it, of course, but it seems pretty likely, since they've done it before.

I will start the ball rolling. Here is the English Translation of Amalia Por Amor
You got the look In the soul and voice The real fado That is within us
And caught the guitar strings Lived your heart Without knowing the reason
Sing the sea Earth and sky With my heart in the voice God gave you
Seven hills and varinas And a thousand trading days by air The people praying A voice to sing Saudade, wanted to give your name The woman who was Amalia by love
And singing You give so much love What you die for killing Our pain
And there are geraniums in the windows And the processions pass The people praying
You got the look In the soul and voice The Lusitanian fate that is in us And there are geraniums in the windows And the processions pass A voice to sing
A voice to sing Saudade, wanted to give your name The woman who was Amalia by love.
Of course these lyrics might have been changed in Hayley's version.

Hi Hayley fans, I'll do my best to send a translation every now and then. Don't have the CD though...maybe I too should order it from NZ. Is it going to be out in Italy, at some point? Here's A Quel Sorriso Che Non Ride Più.First in Italian, then English translation. I listened to the song here: This song is about a lady looking at an old family photo... is happy not to be living there anymore, yet is not able to detach herself. Ciao a tutti, happy
PLEASE REPORT?
To that smile which doesn’t laugh anymore Ta, look here: my home, Also I am on the photo, between mother, father, dog, grandmother, and aunt It must be, who knows, twenty years ago, maybe more. What dark faces! What sadness! What does that give me? I thank heaven that I went away, from that smile which doesn’t laugh anymore, from that pain which does not cry anymore. Yes, I know! Yet, yes, I will do it, I will do it: One of these days I will return home To say "Hello!" What does it cost me? Yet I know I should not! My home, it sticks to me like a disease. Who knows? I thank heaven that I am went away, from that smile which doesn’t laugh anymore, from that pain which doesn’t cry anymore. Yes I know, but I am here, with clenched fists to say: "This is mine. Although it’s little, this is just mine. It’s mine alone." And my thoughts go back there, always there, to the smile that does not laugh anymore, to that pain which does not cry anymore.
