Hi Steve M,
I do appreciate the sentiment behind starting a separate thread for this disaster but 90% of the posts are currently in the earlier thread so to avoid fragmentation of the discussion, I am moving your post and the four replies into that thread. I will modify the thread title and first post to clarify.

Hello everyone
Although I was on line around 1am this morning and caught the first couple of posts, their significance didn't hit me at the time and it wasn't until I turned on my radio just before 9am that I realised what devastation this latest earthquake has caused.
I was up and off out of town quite quickly this morming and barely had time for a quick tweet of support to Hayley before leaving, so it wasn't until this evening that I saw the full extent of the damage. The TV news pictures are heartbreaking and I can fully understand Hayley's tears this morning.
All I can say now is that my thoughts and prayers are with Hayley and her family; with her friends; with all the people of Christchurch and with New Zealand and I hope and prey that those people still trapped will soon be home safe with their loved ones.
I heard only 30 minutes ago that rescue teams from Leicestershire and West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service are already heading for Christchurch and I take this opportunity to wish them good luck and God speed.
I thank God too that Hayley is safely back in London, although I suspect she might not feel the same way right now, but it would have been very worrying if she had still been at home with her family.
Best wishes Grant

Hi Dave Many thanks for uploading the video of Hayley's interview - I was out of town so missed the actual broadcast. I think it was very brave of Hayley to agree to the interview at a time when she is clearly quite distressed about the situation at home. She did seem a bit emotional when she was recounting having coffee with friends in Cathedral Square and they showed the devastated Cathedral. Sounds like she may head home again before her planned April trip. Best wishes Grant

Thank you very, very much for uploading Dave. It feels really good to actually see Hayley. I was very relieved to read her family was ok this morning but we could feel through her tweets how much she was under the shock after what had happened in her hometown. What could be more natural? And through the day, I couldn't help but sharing this shock and with her -as I'm sure we all have... Now, to see her speak for more than 140 characters, about the situation and her family, to see her face and, despite the shock, the anxiety and the sadness, to see her smile and to hear her voice feels really good. Thank you... I hope every HWIer from Christchurch is ok, as well as their relatives... I'm praying for you all in Christchurch. My thoughts are with you. Lots of love, Juliette xxxx

Sad to hear about the latest earthquakes in CHCH and to see pictures of the devastation. I've heard about it this morning but wasn't able to go online until now. I'm glad that Hayley's family is ok although many others have lost their life. Thomas

I got up rather late this morning, since I wasn't at work. But we were going to Birminghan NEC for the Boat, Caravan and Motorhome show (we did get there, eventually).
I had a quick look at the internet, as I do when I give Hayley my habitual vote on Nicola's site, and saw Hayley's tweets. "What is this about" I thought, so went to the BBC and saw the horrific news. I forgot all about going anywhere for a while, despite prompting from downstairs. This is important.
Like you Grant, I felt I just had to support Hayley in this. I can try to imagine how I would feel if Leicester was similarly devasated and I was on the other side of the world. I know I would be worried sick about my family and friends, and also would feel helpless, being so far away. This is how Hayley must feel, and doubly so as she was there only a few days ago.
Of course the people of Christchurch are in my prayers, and Hayley too. I think most of our members in ChristChurch have reported in safe, and thank God, Hayley's family are safe.
I have a friend from work though who is currently touring NZ in a motorhome, and I know he and his wife are in the South Island at the moment. I can only hope and pray that they are safe.
Thank you Dave for making that video of Hayley's interview available. She was putting on a brave face I am sure. Like her, I feel helpless and want to do something to help. Hayley at least might get the chance to do something. Music can work wonders, it can help people to forget their pain for a while. For the rest of us, I suspect there isn't much, except perhaps if there is an appeal we can donate to it. But I don't think money is the main issue.
Hayley, if you read this please know that the people of your city are in our hearts and prayers at this terrible time. May God comfort everyone who is affected by this, especially those who have lost loved ones.

I can't believe the things that are happening in the lower part of the world. Floods in Australia and quakes in New Zealand. How sad to suffer these catastrophes. I'm glad Hayley wasn't there and I'm glad her family is well. But the devastation is so sad. I had planed to visit Christchurch this year. I'll keep all the people there in my prayers and hope they can recover quickly.

This is just devastating, especially so soon after the last quake. The latest number of fatalities is 75, and over 300 people missing.
My thoughts are with the people of Christchurch at this terrible time.

Interestingly, Hayley mentioned that she is due to go back to New Zealand to work in April. Martin my brain just pointed out what that means she also said she might try to go back sooner... so maybe theres a remote posibility of something of a beneficial nature
