To everyone in New Zealand. It’s so hard to know what to say at a time like this, thinking of you guys and hoping your as safe as you can be, it must be horrible for Hayley knowing she was there a few days earlier and the trauma of not knowing how your friends that you grew up with are faring, to be so far from home and family must be terrifying and worrying, its sounds like Hayley’s dad had a close call, that must have been terrifying for Hayley and her family. so glad that everyone there that are members here are Ok, but the death toll from this one is unbelievable, the people trapped and the families not knowing if their loved ones are still alive, suffering or what, I am hating the reports of people having to be amputated to get pulled out, as most of you know probably from earlier posts my grandfather hails from NZ and I have quite a few relatives over there, hopefully they are Ok as well. It’s just so shocking, they say that NZ experiences hundreds of minor earth quakes a year, I wasn't aware of that and have never experienced the terror of one. I guess we become so complacent living in our own little world that we don’t realize what other communities have to contend with, my heart goes out to all in NZ and to all the families affected by this horrible act of nature. God bless Much love Tracy.

Hi Jillian and everyone,
Thanks for the heads-up on the ITV interview, which I have now watched, it's about 2m:45s long.
Hayley added a bit more detail compared to the Sky News interview yesterday, the main points are that her dad now has no business or work to go to, along with many other people in the city. The buildings either side of his have collapsed and he was lucky to be able to get out. There is no mains water supply, even at home, and the water supply system will have to be rebuilt. There is no electric power either.
What struck me from both interviews I've seen is how well informed Hayley is about the details not only about what's happening now but also about the earthquake itself, discussing fault lines and pointing out that this was "just another after-shock" from the September earthquake.

Hi Dave,
That's a good point about the job situation. That was a problem in Brisbane and no doubt the situation will be even more widespread in Christchurch. The expense of mortgages, children and living goes on regardless of whether people have jobs to go to. I imagine that NZ authorities will be providing some relief payments -- but really, it is only a drop in the bucket. The following depression of lost homes, jobs and lives is also not to be underestimated too.
I imagine Hayley is so well informed as she's probably been non-stop watching the news coverage. When the floods hit Brisbane I actually had to stop watching it after a while as it was turning me into a zombie - there was only so much of it that I could watch.
All these natural distasters and the devastation is starting to make me dizzy -- floods, cyclones, fires and earthquakes. I don't think that there's been a day in the last 2 months when the Australian news hasn't been saturated with such stories of loss and damage.
I know that New Zealand provided aid to Queensland and now Queensland is providing aid to New Zealand - a bit like ping pong. It really beats me how the cost of reparing all of everything is going to be met. Someone tell mother nature to stop.

Hi all,
This is all so upsetting. We have work contacts in Christchurch, and it was only last week that I asked one of them if they had come across Hayley before (they had of course!). I haven't heard from them since, must keep praying that they are ok, and also that those still trapped in the rubble would be found safely.

We have had up to 150 aftershocks since the 6.3 one. Still having them but they have been less intense. At my house we still have water, power, the toilet still works but we are not meant to use it as the sewage pipes are probably broken. We had a minor problem with the hot water cylinder leaking but hopefully I have fixed that problem. I am on holiday at the moment but I did go to work yesterday and it is still functioning so at least I have a job to go back to. Also yesterday it took me a long time to get petrol and groceries in the suburb of Hornby which was largely unaffected by the quake. I had originally planned to go camping for a few days further South and I still plan to go as at the moment all I am doing is staying inside the house. My Will Martin concert in the Isaac Theatre Royal has of course been cancelled. Apparently the dome has fallen into the theatre. Also the Town Hall has apparently also suffered damage. On a sad note some of the people who work for the local TV station and have interviewed Fiona, Yulia, and probably Hayley also, are still inside the collapsed CTV building and might not be alive now.

The link to the Daily Mirror doesn't actually lead to the article, just the main page. And here she said she'd intended to go back in May, not April. So maybe it's both April and May? And is the work an album promotion or concerts, or both? Anyway, let's just hope there aren't any more earthquakes when all that's going on... or ever.
