Hi everyone! I was browsing Ryandan's official website and apparently they recorded their part for the official theme tune for the Rugby World Cup and guess what, it features our very own Hayley! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThat would be absolutely fantastic. I'll probably go to the Rugby World Cup official store in Paris tomorrow - Place de l'Opéra Garnier - to ask if they have more information. Ryandan are singing on "Friday Night is Music Night" on June 22, 2007 (Hayley is there too). A video?? Wooohoooo!!! Below is a picture of the Ryandan twins. Stephany

Generally, the official song for the Rugby World Cup is "World in Union". I assume it's the one they will sing once again...unless they created a new theme just for the 2007 Rugby World Cup? You can hear two versions below : - "World in Union" French version (Rugby World Cup 2007) - "World in Union" by Bryn Terfel and Shirley Bassey (Rugby World Cup 1999)

Hi Marianne & Richard, I went to the Rugby World Cup official store yesterday and asked them if they knew anything about the World Cup's official song. They told me it was too early but they should receive lots of things in August and the single will probably be there at the same moment. I wish you had been there with me to see their reaction when I mentioned Hayley Westenra. They were like "Hay...what?" They should better remember her name - I'm sure she's going to conqueer France very quickly. Unless the All Blacks win the World Cup Stephany¨ PS : below is a picture I took!

Hi Stephany, Many thanks for the photo of the store window display. Lots of souvenirs there...the backpack / rucksack looks nice. Also thanks for the 2 links to the different versions of the World in Union song. Wow...it's the melody from one of my most favourite hymns as composed by Holst on his 'Planets Suite - Jupiter' I've located some info about one of the above-linked performances from a Shirley Bassey website...with photos and lyrics of the World in Union song that she and Bryn Terfel sang from 1999.

Hi All,
Another artist who will be in the Rugby World Cup 2007 Theme song is Nicky Spence. He isn't listed on the RyanDan website.
It seems the are trying to get artists from as wide arange of countries participating as possible: Andrea Bocelli (Italy), Roberto Alagna (France), Katherine Jenkins (Wales), Hayley Westenra (New Zealand), RyanDan (Canada), Nicky Spence (Scotland). I wonder if any more artists from any of the other participating countries are going to be involved!

Hi Gerrit,
Thanks for the input. I'm going to call the French Federation of Rugby next Monday to have more information on this.
Best wishes, Stephany

I have had some feedback that my hypothesis could be true (but this is not from official sources).
In which case we could start speculating about some of the other countries .....
England: I think Russell Watson should be prime candidate; he has been involved with English rugby before (Swing Low, Sweet Chariot) Ireland: Ronan Tynan? Romania: Angela Gheorghiu? (Well, if France supplies Alagna, shouldn't Romania supply Gheorghiu?) US: What do they want - a real classical singer (maybe Renée Fleming?) or a more crossover style singer (young Andrea Ross, or Holly Stell - who has dueted with Andrea Bocelli before), or perhaps Josh Groban? Plenty of choice there! Australia: Kane Alexander? (He was Katherine's guest artist on her tour of Australia in October last year.
Then there are 9 other countries for which I don't have any ideas: Argentina, Portugal, Georgia, South Africa, Namibia, Japan, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.

It would appear that the English representatives are the new "Classical" boy-band Blake, which apparently recently signed a deal with UCJ. See The Argus for more details. It turns out a full CD is planned for release on Sept. 3, see HMV for initial details. Gerrit
