I'm surprised no one responded to this thread! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI think Mirusia is fantastic as well! She's a fabulous singer and performer, and appears to have lots of fun! She reminds me a bit of Holly Holyoake, with her hair and smile and all - does anyone else see that? Even the voice a little... I think she did a lovely job on, "Wishing you were somehow here again." She has a perfect voice for Christine, pure and sweet and still capable of rich and powerful high notes. I know I read somewhere that Mr. Webber was thinking about Katherine Jenkins for his "Phantom" sequel, but I hope he gives Mirusia a look too! P.S Here's some direct video links! Hi All. Today her cd , She walks in Beauty arrived, and i just put it in my CD player to listen to, and it sounds great. I was surprised to hear some songs i already knew, performed by other artists, but Mirusia gives her own signature to it!! Tracklisting of the cd. 1. She walks in Beauty 2. Villa 3. Think of me 4. Life is like a boat 5. O mio,Babbino Caro (live) 6.Love changes everything 7. Romanza. 8. Wishing You were Somehow here again 9 Kissing you 10. Time to say goodbye 11 You'll never walk alone.
5,6,8.9.10 and 11 we know because Hayley recorded these songs. I was very surprised by hearing Kissing you, which was recorded in 2006. The same Kissing you, was recorded by Hayley a year later, but both versions are sounding very similar. I never heard the original version( 1996) but i will try to find it!! The fact, that Mirusia is now touring with ANDRE RIEU, will give her more publicity, and fame to build up her career!! Greetz JOYCE.

Hi Joyce, I responded, but not in this particular thread. I checked out the links and discovered quite an amazing voice! I can't wait to see Andre Rieu with all of his very talented artists in a couple of months. Here's my original post: "WOW!!! What a voice! And to think, I will see Andre Rieu in a couple of months in Atlantic City, NJ. Joyce, do you know if Marusia will be with him in the states"? Feb 4, 2008, 5:29pm, dutchjoyce wrote: Hi all, I once saw Andre Rieu and his orchestra, and it is wonderful!!! Mirusia has a big operatic voice. It sounds to me like she was trained to sing louder than most singers but has to hold back a bit in the age of microphones. And like most conservatory trained vocalists, she can't quite turn off the operatic side of her when tackling the more "poppy" type material. That's not to say she isn't highly listenable, because she's very appealing the way Katherine Jenkins is very appealing.
As for her age, she was born in 1985 -- which puts her in the 22 - 23 range.

I watched her perform with Andre Rieu on PBS for his "Wonderland" special. Andre was spectacular as always, but I was really impressed by Mirusia's voice. It is amazing!
She did remind of Katherine Jenkins, which I do believe is a good thing

Hi all, I could post this in the André Rieu thread which is lurking somewhere on this board, but if you read on, you'll find it fits here as well. Morever, this way it directs the attention once more to Mirusia. Recently I have received two videos from Cliff via the Katherine Jenkins forum. The videos feature André Rieu being visited at his home (castle!) in Maastricht by Leo Schofield from Ovation Channel, Australia. For me, as an Oz/Dutch citizen, this was very interesting viewing. One video is from the series "Leo Schofield in conversation with". Katherine has recently featured in that series as well. The second video (more than 50 minutes) is very informative about André's views on how classical music should be performed. (One I wholeheartedly concur with.) It also involves Leo giving André a brief history lesson about British settlement of Australia - something quite significant, as I became a naturalised Australian on 26 January 1988 (Australia Day), the Bicentenary of white settlement. There is also an interesting story in it about Mirusia Louwerse. It relates how she got in contact with André Rieu. For those of you interested, please check my André Rieu page: www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/andrerieu.htmNote that the videos are 188 MB and 266 MB respectively. Gerrit

Thanks Gerrit for that interview in which Mirusia was discussed. I also had a look at the other clips you have..."Aranjuez" has such a beautiful melody. Joe

Hi all,
just now news has come in about a new André Rieu album for the Australian market. Last week, this albume entered number 2 of the album chart. This week, it is number 1 - AND it has achieved platinum in the second week!
Now, André Rieu is basically a Classical music performer. And now he has managed to achieve number 1 in the pop album chart in Australia, and go Platinum at the same time!! I am not aware of any other performer managing such an achievement.
Ohh, and the title of the album that is doing so well in the Australian charts? Waltzing Matilda!! Apart from André, the main performer on this CD is Mirusia Louwerse. Number 1 and Platinum within 2 weeks - that's virtually unthought of even in Holland, the country of origin of both André and Mirusia.

Just a short addition to my last post - currently, in the Australian DVD top 10 chart, 8 (!!!) albums are by André Rieu.
And, this is a serious question!
Up till now, the only country I was aware of that had Classical albums at the top of the national album chart was New Zealand. (With both Hayley Westenra and Yulia Townsend, and both more than once.)
Katherine Jenkins came quite close a few times in the UK, but managed a number 3 as her best effort.
Now we have André Rieu and Mirusia Louwerse achieving number 1 in Australia.
Has there been a classical album anywhere else that achieved number 1 in the national album chart?
Gerrit
PS here's a track listing of the Mirusia/André Rieu album:
1. Wiener Melange 2. Scarborough Fair 3. Waltzing Matilda 4. Treasure Waltz 5. La Vergine degli angeli 6. Wine, Women And Song 7. Botany Bay 8. Du und du 9. Thorn Birds: Theme 10. I Still Call Australia Home 11. Viennese Citizen 12. Benedictus 13. Charmaine 14. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again 15. Fledermaus Quadrille 16. Tie Me Kangaroo 17. Home Among The Gumtrees 18. Waltzing Matilda (Vocal Version)
PPS Andre Rieu is the biggest selling artist for Universal Music in the last 5 years.

Mirusia is not only a beautiful singer, but a really lovely person too. She took the time (even through her very busy schedule) to listen to fellow Australian, 14 year old Siobhan Owen's tracks on MySpace and gave some really lovely feedback. She said to Siobhan: "You have such a beautiful voice and a beautiful name to match! I listened to your tracks and I know you will go places! " Mirusia is very mature vocally and in her personality. In 2006 she was the youngest ever winner of the prestigious ‘Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award’ here in Australia.. She is hard working and dedicated to her craft. A very good role model for the many young Classical singers around the world! www.mirusia.netwww.siobhanowen.com
