And this is what I've been trying to say! Even if Hayley doesn't plan on touring in the US anytime soon, just "getting her face and name" out in the US scene can help her a lot! I know she did that, in a way, with CW and a few other things but I don't think it's enough.

Katherine, it seems, would like to be a celebrity first and a singer second. I don't believe that to be a true statement. I have seen her many times in concert and met her once with Dazza and all the KJ fans who had traveled to Dublin. She is both charming and co operative with her fans. I do believe singing is her vocation. I too have enjoyed seeing Katherine live several times, and she is indeed a fine singer. But what has dancing got to do with that - personally I would rather hear her sing. I suspect my last sentence has it right. If she can get herself known in the USA, perhaps people will discover her as a singer. But, if all she wants to do is sing, and fame and fortune are less important to her, taking up dancing seems a strange thing to do! Unless, as I said, she sees it as a way to promote her music in the US. Martin D She also has quite a streak of comedienne in her, Promotion is promotion, you do whatever you can get, which includes daytime television, cookery programmes, talent show host or judge, guest artist, duets etc. They are all ways of being seen by another audience.

Paige, there was also an interview with Josh back in 2005, where he was asked about whether he likes Charlotte or Hayley better. He said that while he's worked with Charlotte before, he really liked Hayley's album, which apparently he'd only listened to once! I'll have to re-find that article again! I think I can find it in my Hayley thread in Josh's forum...

Okay, here it is! It's from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, from March 2005!

Unless, as I said, she sees it as a way to promote her music in the US. Martin D I'm sure this is exactly the case. Regardless of how popular she is with Classical Crossover fans, Katherine has probably decided that if she intends to expand her fanbase, she's going to have to make sure people know who she is first. Hence Doctor Who the other year, and Dancing With The Stars now. It's simply a fact that we humans are more likely to check out the work of people we have heard of, because we make a connection. "Oh, wasn't she that girl doing the dancing?" may not be as good as "Isn't she that girl with the wonderful voice?" but it may still create enough recognition that people will listen to her music. And it's certainly better than "Katherine who?" Katherine clearly wants to be popular with a mainstream audience as well as her current niche. So my guess would be that yes, she is still mainly about her music, but she sees this - probably correctly - as a way to grow her audience.

It's not entirely her fault. Nearly all of the dances on this show are extremely bland compared to the dances you see on the So You Think You Can Dance show. The dances are a lot harder and more exciting. The dances on DWTS, for the most part, seem a bit dumbed-down for the stars, in my opinion. Not all, but a lot. I think Katherine's Paso Doble last night was one of the blandest ones I've ever seen. So, it's not entirely her fault.
Steve, she doesn't have to be exactly spot on every time in order for anyone to like her. We can't expect amateur dancers to be precise everytime, even with the practice and help from their partners. Anyway, are we really expecting her to win the whole show? Is dancing perfectly and winning the only way for her to gain recognition? Sure, it would help tremendously if she did win. But it's not a requirement, IMO.

What's needed is a show strictly for Classical Crossover artists in which they dance to their own singing. Hayley could be paired with Josh and dance the Dark Waltz. KJ could team up with Russell Watson in a special Habanera for two. You get the idea. This way their music would be on equal "footing" with their dance moves in attracting the audience's support. Josh seems like a nice guy and would be a great dance partner for either Hayley or Becky.

I think you are rather missing the point of my post, Steve. No-one in their right mind is going to think either 'Wow! Katherine is a terrific dancer! I must buy her albums!' or 'Ugh! Her dancing sucks! I'm not going to listen to her sing, now!' Whether she is good, bad or merely indifferent, Katherine has raised awareness of her existence quite considerably by appearing on the show. Anything past that would simply be the icing on the cake for her. As Libby says, for Katherine to win is not a requirement. Because in the way she actually cares about - raising her profile - she has already 'won'. Complaining that she isn't a terrific dancer is a bit like complaining that she wasn't the best actress on Doctor Who. She isn't a professional actress, or a professional dancer. It would be asking a bit much for her to be terrific at everything, don't you think? (And for those wondering, I'm not a huge fan of Katherine. I just think she has the right kind of ideas for promoting her music

Well, the promotion is helping her out here across the pond too. Her picture was on the front page of today's Daily Mail!

Getting back to the original question. Hayley first appeared in the States in 2004, almost 8 years ago. Since then she's rarely headlined a concert here - three or four small gigs at small venues, but usually she's guest soloing with an orchestra (the Boston Pops, the Dallas Symphony), acting as duet partner for a megatenor, opening for another act (Il Divo), part of a group (Celtic Woman) or performing as one of many acts on a program (Capitol Fourth, National Memorial Day Concert). She's also appeared only twice in the US in the past 4 years. She's yet to tour on her own or headline anything big at a major venue. I of course can't read her mind, but it doesn't appear that breaking the states is a major priority for her at this point. I actually think there might be a slowdown coming in her career, but we'll just have to see what happens.

Well, Katherine Jenkins broke off her engagement, according to the Daily Mail article, to further her career in the States. It left her "beyond hearbroken". Having given up so much (it wasn't worth it if you ask me) she deserves to achieve her dream. When she signed with Warner, it was to break the States. I think it is very important to her, and I wish her well. I am certain that Hayley would never do anything like that. I think for Hayley, the man she loves is more important than her career. But hopefully, that sort of conflict won't arise.

Elliot, my sentiments exactly. Even for her just to have performed on the show is a lot... which is why I think Hayley should sing on the show, too. Don't worry, I just sent that letter on Friday!! Probably too late for this season, but maybe not for next, which is in the fall, if I'm not mistaken (and I don't think I am). Also, since the only address available was to get autographs from the stars... well, we'll just have to see, won't we? Even if it's fruitless, at least I can say I tried the best I could. If anybody else wants to write to them, or anybody else I've written to, for that matter, I'd be happy to share the address(es). i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSteve O.: I don't see Hayley's career slowing down. If anything, it's at least going to speed up in Asia. If it does slow down, it would be because of her getting married, and maybe eventually having kids. But you know how long engagements last these days. Steve M.: Very interesting idea, but totally unrealistic. Of course, having guys like Josh Groban on would increase the audience significantly, but it wouldn't be enough for them to make a whole show of it. On the other hand, a show like that with a variety of stars, more well-known ones, of course, probably would be successful.
