lol he may be, but I wouldn't pass on the opportunity if it came my way. After all, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have pretty decent careers, right? -Rory

If Hayley ever wants to reach the star status that I assume she would like I think some change is needed. That it may be Larry, but I also feel like Hayley herself doesn't really want anymore success. She seems content with what she's achieved and with the niche she's found. I know I'm not alone in believing that Hayley has never wanted to reach star status although I know a lot of us here on this forum feel that she deserves it - that's only natural - we want the best for her. Hayley values her privacy, and the way things are at the moment, she has the best of both worlds. In her public life she can do what she loves doing the most - sing, but off stage she can live a normal life and be herself without being recognised on every street corner. There are other relevances too. To make it in the US, I'm guessing she would need to spend at least a year, quite probably longer to have any chance of success - it was tried before and failed. If she tried again now, how would her existing fan base react? Another failure could affect her popularity in Asia, Japan and the UK and that wouldn't be good for her career. Also, whilst I don't intend to delve into her personal life, there is a wedding to plan somewhere down the line and, knowing her love of children, some of her own. Hayley will, I'm sure, continue to explore new areas musically; will continue writing and continue enthralling us with her stunning vocals but, at the end of the day, I feel she will always be "li'l ol' Hayley from Christchurch New Zealand" Best wishes Grant

I agree Grant. I think Hayley is all about appealing to those who enjoy quality rather than quantity. And that is her market. Discerning listeners and other musicians, a "musician's musician". I doubt she would ever appeal to the mass market anyway, she can safely leave that to the likes of Lady Gaga and One Direction. Those who know her appreciate her innovation and vocal genius, but it tends to be too subtle for the mass market. I'm sure she knows that, and enjoys making good music. So perhaps she will never "break" anywhere, except perhaps Taiwan. But she will always be loved by those who like beautiful voices and subtle innovation with a spiritual dimension worldwide. The people who care about music will find her, and many will love what they hear. Those whose interest in music is only about being "with it" and having something they can dance to wouldn't like her anyway.

True, but she does have songs that I could hear on modern pop radio: Who Painted the Moon Black, My Heart Belongs to You, Beat of Your Heart, and maybe Summer Rain. Of course, they would never appeal to modern pop listeners like a Gaga song would, like you said, but they still have some potential to the average drive-by listeners I think

Yes, I think she has some songs that could be played on radio without sounding out of place. She never seems to get played on the BBC though, although she has appeared on one or two live broadcasts on BBC Radio 2.

I doubt she would ever appeal to the mass market anyway, Yes Martin, that's a good point. As for mass markets, they tend to dictate what the market should provide and that just isn't Hayley. Someone said to me today "Hayley is her own genre" and I think there's a lot of truth in that. What ever Hayley does; wherever her career takes her, she will always be true to herself. She won't dress in outlandish clothes or cavort around the stage like a wild thing just to satisfy a particular market. It just isn't her style. Best wishes Grant

NEWS FLASH: You do not need to be as famous as Lady Gaga to have a few concerts in the US!!
I've said all this over and over and over here, but you guys never seem to "listen". So here I go again.
All that we in the US want is for her to be able to have a few concerts here every so often.
Look at Sarah Brightman. She is touring the US later this year, because she has a new album out. While her name is well-known in the classical/crossover genre, she is by no means a "big star" here. I bet you'd be almost as hard-pressed to find a person off the street who knows her name as you would to find someone who knows Hayley. Yet, she still tours here.
And there's Josh Groban. He's successful enough to sell out arenas, his albums do very well, yet his personal life is still not greatly affected by this success. And he's American, no less! A successful American singer, and still not a "big star". Sure, he's on a bunch of shows to promote his albums (starting tomorrow, in fact!), and he tours all around the country, and all around the world. Yet you never see his face on the tabloids, rarely even see him at the Grammy's, he's rarely played on the radio (only when he has a new album out, which he does now). Even Hayley goes on TV and radio shows in the UK, yet she's still not a huge star!
So, even if Hayley did as well as Josh, in that genre, she still would not be a "big star". But there's not much chance of her having the success that Josh has anytime soon, in the US, at least.
Then, there's Jackie Evancho. She is never, ever, ever, EVER talked about in magazines, is only occasionally on TV shows, yet, she still has little tours. She even had a concert in my area last September, at Washington's biggest fair, performing with a local symphony. She was only on a big talent show, for goodness' sake, and look at how tiny her "stardom" is!
I don't expect a big tour, just a few concerts. All I ask is that there be a concert on the west coast once in a while. That's all!! No stardom needed whatsoever! Maybe just a few more album sales, but that's probably what would be needed in order for her to come here more. Singing for a big movie like The Hobbit might help, though I'm starting to lose hope about that.
A few concerts in the US every once in a while would in no way interfere with her Asian tours, if they planned it all out right.
I also don't think that Hayley will give up her singing career just because she gets married and has kids. Lots of singers, actors, etc. have families, and singing or acting careers! I actually don't see her popping out kids the second she gets married. She was engaged over a year ago, and she's still not married. Obviously she's not in a huge rush. I bet she's planning it, though.
I'm shocked that this discussion is still going on after all the times I've said this sort of thing. If you haven't gotten it by now, you probably never will. So now I'll just leave you to your endless discussions and not depress myself by reading it anymore.

I didn't get the impression that any of us implied that Hayley couldn't still perform in the US, we just meant that she had no desire to be a huge star. As a relatively new member to the forum, I don't know much of the other discussions you are referencing, but at least here I'm fairly sure that's not quite what we were getting at. I'd love her to play more shows here - at this point I think it may be more in the hands of her management/label so it's on them I guess

Well, Larry has been here for years, but he never seems to get it. Whenever anyone hints at wanting her to be a little bit more well-known here, he always has to bring up the big stardom, and being negative about how she'll never make it here, she'll never come here, she has no chance here, she has to change herself radically in order to make it, and I'm just tired of it. I don't want her to be a huge star. I just want to see her in person! And as much as I'd love to travel to see her, I'd rather not have to! Believe me, if I could, I would! But I'm stuck in my current life as it is, with not much hope of anything ever changing. So, she needs to come to the Pacific Northwest, is what it amounts to. The closer to Seattle the better, too, otherwise the party-poopers in my family will make things difficult for me.

Honestly, if Hayley were to tour the US, she would only need to visit 7or 8 places to meet all her fans! Not a big tour, just enough concerts to cover good ground. I think it would look something like: 1.NYC, NY 2.Chicago, Illinois 3.Atlanta, Georgia 4. Austin, TX 5. Seattle, WA 6. Los Angeles, California 7. Somewhere in the Mid-west, maybe Kansas City. So just a small tour would cover a LOT of Hayley's fans here. If only... *sigh* And you're not alone Libby. I'm in the same boat. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
