Here's the story: Ok, so there's this AWESOME used book store in Birmingham called 2nd & Charles (it also sells CDs/LPs, etc). My mom and I went there to return a record I had gotten there the week before (Adele's "21" on LP. It skipped awfully). I had made my return and was looking through the CDs (section W, of course), when I found a version of Pure that I didn't own. So, naturally, I picked it up and went to check out. When I got to the counter, I had the same girl who did my return. "I'm really sorry about your record. That doesn't usually happen," she said to me. "Well," I say, " at least I get another incredible album in it's place!" "You're quite right. I have it at home!" "Really?! She has an amazing voice, doesn't she?" "Yes, she does! I actually had a friend from New Zealand introduce me to her, a few years back." "Cool. I've always wanted to see her live, but she only tours in the UK ** (sigh)" "Yeah. It would be nice if she had made more music." "Oh! Did you know she came out with an album last year?" "No! I didn't!" "It's called 'Paradiso'. It really is a great album. I listen to it quite a bit." "Well, I guess I'll have to look at that, now won't I? I'll see where I can get it." "Thank you. Bye!" "Goodbye." As I leave checkout, I hear the woman behind me ask if they had anything in stock by that Hayley Westenra we were talking about. I had mixed feelings about that: It was good that she was interested on Hayley; only problem was, that I had just bought the only Hayley CD in the entire store! Also, I got chewed out by my mom because I "wasted" $7 on an album I already own. Everybody in my family still don't know I'm a die-hard fan of Hayley's, so I had to cover up by saying that I had forgotten that I had a copy, and that I would give it to someone as a birthday gift. Guess who had an early birthday that day? -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif** Just to make it clear, I didn't want to seem like a too enthusiastic fan, so I had to list only the most common place she tours. I am very well aware she tours in other places (duh!).

Hi Elliot, If the US is so much different than Europe then why have the Rolling Stones made it for 50 years over here? Larry If they are so similar, Larry, how come Robbie Williams isn't a major star in the US the way he is everywhere else? But we could do that for a long while in both directions, couldn't we?

I am very well aware she tours in other places (duh!).
Wow, that's so great! I can't believe she didn't know that Hayley had any other albums; well, not only that, but she seemed to know for a fact that she hadn't! It's not as if she couldn't have looked her up if she wanted to know. That's how I found out about Odyssey; I was wondering if Hayley had anything new yet, and she did! It's good that you told her about Paradiso, but I would've told her she had 4 other albums (at least), besides Pure! So, you see, that's why I feel that my Hayley "advertisements" on the Josh forum are helping to re-introduce people to Hayley, as well as introduce. I think it's kind of accomplishing both, but only the re-introducing is noticeable because the people new to Hayley don't say anything one way or another. I'm pretty sure some of them wouldn't have even known about Paradis if I hadn't posted about it in her thread, and advertised it in my signature. At least one of the fans bought the album and discussed it with me in the Hayley thread. She wasn't too sure about the song Amalia Por Amor, though, because she wasn't used to Hayley singing like that. Well, okay, then. That's the way it worked when I recently made a thread for Mary Jess. I only got one reply, and it was from someone who already knew who she was. However, I've received 244 views since I made the thread a month or so ago. Hayley's thread gets about 1,000 views every couple months, though!

Explanations: I would have told her, but you have to remember: There was a line behind me! Also, this was half a week ago, so that might not be exactly what she said. And classical-esque music is kinda... well... Not exactly well advertised here. For every classical radio station most cities have, we usually have two country! Not saying that's a bad thing (I can stand some good country), but it's hard to access that kinda music here (excl. iTunes). There are also plenty of people that bought Pure that didn't get the memo on Odyssey.

Great job Taylor! That's the way to do it! Libby, well done on your Hayley advertising on Josh's forum.

I know what you say is true about people not "getting the memo on Odyssey". Meaning it probably wasn't advertised as much in the US (although it was during the Kurt Browning show on NBC!). But like I said, if they were really that interested in her, and they had a computer, they could easily have looked her up. But, maybe those people didn't use computers very much. Oh well.

Level of interest plays a part, too, Libby. And expectation.
I don't know about you, but I listen to a LOT of artists, and if they seem to vanish off the radar or don't put anything out for a long time, I can and have missed releases.
I won't miss Hayley's because she's close to the top of my 'current interest' list, but it can be hard to keep track of everyone. And if you have no reason to think an artist has ever had more than one album - and that a decade ago! - would you look to see what they are doing now?
Might not even occur...

I don't know. But if I liked them enough, as I did (and do!) with Hayley, I certainly do look them up once in a while. However, these days, all you really need to do is follow them on Twitter or Facebook for any important updates. And of course, checking their website, but normally their Twitter/FB feeds are more up-to-date. Part of the reason I looked up Hayley that day was that I was bored, and was running out of things to do on the computer, and so I started thinking of artists I liked and looked them up to see what was new with them. I'm so glad I did. I do have sad memories of the time when Odyssey was released in the US. It came out 3 days after my bunny Hopkins died.

As I mentioned in the Hobbit movie thread in off-topic, there are now going to be 3 films, so that gives Hayley another chance to be included in the soundtracks, if they don't include her in the first 2. However, if she isn't in the first 2, I will be feeling a bit pessimistic by then. But at least the 3rd film will be in the summer of the next year, so we won't have to wait as long to find out.
When the last couple weeks of August come around, I'll probably getting very anxious about whether Hayley will be doing the soundtrack for the 1st film, because that is when PJ said Howard Shore would start recording the soundtrack. I'm worried that her Wales concert and/or the Athens one would make things difficult. However, if they really want her that bad, they will accomodate her. That's what they did for the main character of the film! Martin Freeman declined the role at first due to conflicts with filming the Sherlock show he does, but they worked around his schedule, because he was the one they wanted!
I think the soundtrack is supposed to be released in November, since the world premiere is Nov. 28.

Jackson is a total perfectionist with Tolkien, yes. If he wants an artist, he'll get them, I'm sure. And I couldn't imagine Hayley refusing!

Oh no, I'm sure she wouldn't of course. He wanted Martin Freeman to be Bilbo, and he got him, although he had to accomodate to his Sherlock schedule in order to get him. But let's just hope Howard Shore wants Hayley as bad as PJ wanted Martin for Bilbo! Because from what I've seen and read, PJ completely respects HS' work, and is not likely to refuse a singer he chooses, unless he really doesn't like them. Going by his response to my first letter, he does not dislike Hayley (although I don't think he's as obsessed as we are! LOL). And we already know Howard Shore knows and likes Hayley. Let's just hope he's read my letter by now, and still remembers and likes her. I wonder if he's kept up-to-date with her albums or not? If not, hopefully my letter will help remedy that (even if no results are seen this year).

We can certainly hope so, Libby! If anyone human can truly sing like an Elf it's surely Hayley, which they couldn't miss.

Yes, I believe I made that case in at least one of my letters... haha. Oh yeah, in my original letter to PJ, I suggested that Hayley could be one of the elves singing in Mirkwood! Obviously the acting part didn't work out! Haha, but as long she sings something for the movie, I'll be happy.
Besides HS and PJ, there's Philippa Boyens to please, as well! She's a big part of the team behind the writing and all that. I believe she helped co-write the song Into the West! So, if Hayley were to sing a theme song, maybe Philippa would co-write her song. But then, Enya wrote both of her songs. Hayley could easily write her own lyrics, as well. At the San Diego comic-con recently, PJ told the crowd of Tolkien geeks that Philippa is the biggest Tolkien geek there is. She's a pretty geek, though. LOL

Libby I really applaud your efforts for Hayley. But to suggest she play an elf is tantamount to groveling.

It is nothing of the sort, Larry. It was only a suggestion. A suggestion is not groveling. I didn't make it out of desperation for her to get a major role on the big screen. That's nonsense. Because there is a scene in the Hobbit book where the elves of Mirkwood are singing, I just thought it would be nice if Hayley could actually be present, since, after all, this is more than just background music, it's actually part of the story. Also, I thought Hayley would make a very lovely elf; if you know anything about Tolkien/Peter Jackson elves, you might agree. These are not Santa Claus elves, you know. These are very beautiful, ethereal, powerful beings. It's not as if the idea of Hayley acting has never been brought up before, even in interviews with Hayley herself. And Sophie tried out for an elven role herself. I know for a fact, she told me herself on this forum! She would've made a beautiful elf, as well. Obviously it didn't hurt to ask. His reply was very positive, although he didn't make any mention of that particular idea. It was just that, only an idea. I was not begging, as the word groveling seems to imply. I actually find it a bit insulting that you'd even say such a thing. I have way too much respect for Peter Jackson & team to grovel! The idea that a simple suggestion is groveling is preposterous to me. It leads me to believe you're not too knowledgeable on the subject at all. Anyway, I wrote that letter over 3 years ago. I have long since given up that idea, since I've realized it's very unlikely, and not really necessary, as far as boosting Hayley's popularity. All that is needed is a wonderful theme song of the likes of May it Be or Into the West, and/or maybe some background vocals, of the likes of Renee Fleming. Tolkien/LOTR fans love anything and everything about the films, including the music, and that's the main reason why I think these movies are the best ones for her to sing for at this moment in time. It's the right kind of music, and it's the only one I could predict would have a singer in it at all, since not all movies do, and other than this, I never know what movies are coming out at any given time. This is the only movie I could possibly have done this for.
