Yes, I agree Nicola. What has Katherine Jenkins got to do with it? They could equally quote Hayley (but they wouldn't). And it too would be irrelevant. Laura is her own person, has made a beautiful album, and deserves to be seen as herself. not some sort of KJ clone. Why can they never ever see an artist as who he/she is? Why do they always have to compare them to someone else, usually as an inferior copy? Hayley had that problem with Charlotte Church, who never got anywhere near Paradiso. And is a different to Hayley as chalk is to cheese... Grrr.... Martin D Quite agree with this, Martindn. I have not really looked elsewhere, having limited time but because I was waiting for Hayley's positioning this week, I heard Laura for the first time and was immediately impressed. She should go far. Her voice appeals to me particularly because of the clarity of her enunciation. We have described Hayley's voice as 'pure' and Ennio has described it as unique. Hayley's voice has colour, whereas Laura's seems to have clarity without colour, rather like a tuning fork, certainly in the track they played this week. I shall definitely buy her album, but not until we've got Hayley sorted. Peter S.

In all fairness, Laura shouldn't have allowed that quote about KJ never speaking to All Angels into the article. It just makes her sound like she thinks she was somehow entitled to socialize with Katherine during what was no doubt a busy tour complete with meet and greets and mandatory social events. Oh, and Laura, Katherine's engaged. If she gets some free time I think she's going to spend it contacting her fiance, and if she gets any more she's going to spend it getting in touch with her family. Socializing with younger less successful other artists just isn't that high on her priority list, so sorry.
I for one just kinda shrug at this album, to me it's just more of the same stuff I can get from Hayley or Katherine or Celtic Woman, who at least appear in the US from time to time (quite often in CW's case).

Hi Peter,
I see Steve has already posted some photos including one of me, I know I look short but Laura did have high heel shoes on! I only decided on Friday to attend this concert and made arrangements with Steve to meet at the church,St Peter Mancroft Norwich before the concert. We were allowed in nearly an hour early whilst Laura was just finishing her sound check and secured good seats. The concert was part of The Last Rose of Summer Tour with Patrick Hawes and Raven. Patrick arranged seven of the songs on Laura's album and played piano during the evening.Dazza has already given details of the concert on Laura's Forum so I will not go into anymore detail but only to say that Laura sang without using a microphne, the accoustics of the church being perfect for her voice. The chuch was quite full but afterwards only a few people remained behind to meet Laura and she signed her cd for me.Steve was able to have a chat with her parents before we left and Steve dropped me off at my hotel. Laura is performing in Peterbough on 26th November and as I enjoyed this concert so much will try to make that concert as well.

Thank you Gordon for a superb, succinct but but very informative report on Laura. I have noted in my diary and will seriously think of seeing her at Peterborough.

Thanks Richard. Interesting to hear that she did in fact sing "The Water is Wide" rather than the advertised piece of music of "Blow the Wind Southerly " on the RAH website. I wonder how similar to Hayley's version it was? Cheers Martin

I, too, have just bought Laura's album "The Last Rose of Summer" and can thoroughly recommend it. I have been following Laura's career since she won the BBC Chorister of the Year competition back in 2004 and now, under the management of Eccentric (aka Steve Abbott), she is starting to flourish as a solo artist.
All of the album songs are traditional folk songs (not everyone's cup of tea) and there is no denying the quality and purity of her voice. Perhaps the best young English soprano at the moment.
With time I think her voice will become more colourful but meanwhile there is much to enjoy.

Laura is this year's celebrity to support and launch the Poppy appeal. She supercedes the likes of Katherine Jenkins and, of course more recently, Hayley.
