Just heard that Ellie Goulding will sing at the reception. Words fail me. Well guys, judge for yourselves... youtu.be/hQCp_Oubwi0Yeah. I can't say I've ever understood the fuss about Ellie. Adele turned them down, though, apparently. Probably not her best career move, but such is life. Granted, music is very much a matter of taste, but I would have thought a few people might have rated ahead of Ellie - not least Joss Stone who was there as a friend of William's anyway.

The reception wasn't televised anyway, was it? So it wouldn't have done Hayley that much good to be there, anyway, other than for the privileged guests who were there.
Whereas, the shows she's been doing in NZ are seen by lots of people all over NZ.

That Ellie Golding video... that cellist looks like a member from the Raven Quartet... I'm assuming I'm seeing things?
I had never heard of Ellie Golding. Obviously listened to the video and can't really judge. She's a completely different type of singer that I usually listen to. I think she's very talented and is appealingly quirky, but I wouldn't buy an album of hers. x

Hi everyone.
I haven't caught up on the Sunday Press yet (other things to do), but I have heard/read conflicting reports as to who was actually directing the music choice behind the wedding. Prince Charles, who has a tv programme out in a month talking about Parry, some type of celebration of him may have influenced that predominance of style, or the couple themselves (subject to advisers obviously). Having decided not to go for a solo singer option, then anything else would be considered as 'second best' so it is best Hayley wasn't involved at all.
As a service, I thought it was superbly balanced, the Rutter, the other choral work and the trumpet fanfare bringing in modernism, albeit in provenly safe hands.
The after party was simply an after party and counts solely as a private event, so in my view of no great shakes.

On the subject of Ellie Goulding. We have her first and second albums in the house.
She really caught my attention when she sang Your Song the one made famous by Elton John, Written by the wonderful lyricist Bernie Taupin.
Ellie does such a wonderful performance of Your Song, I gather it was one of Princess Diana's favourite songs which may have explained her being selected for the reception.

On the "One Show" on BBC this evening Ellie let slip that she sang the first dance song at the evening reception so my bet now is that it was "Your Song" which is a favourite of the married couple.

I also very much liked the music performed at the abbey. I'm quite hooked to the brilliant orchestral march 'Crown Imperial', performed as the royal couple exited the shrine of St Edward the Confessor. In doing a bit of research, I understand the piece was performed at the previous two coronations. The song would be brilliant during a BBC Summer Prom complete with fireworks! Best wishes, Joe
