...and what's that guy's name, the first AIAOY video I ever saw, James somebody-or-other. Dowling? Darling? Oh, I can't remember! That video is no longer available. My link says it was in Wisconsin in 2004, if that helps. Hi Libby, It was tenor James Doing. I do have that entire concert, although I didn't record it originally, and it was available somewhere else so I don't think I ever uploaded it anywhere. If it's gone missing from Youtube, I could make it available, perhaps you or someone would let me know? Cheers, Dave

Thanks Bob, I thought I vaguely recalled doing "something" with it! Here is the thread hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Concert&action=display&thread=1005&page=1...and the original downloads provided by goku18jason (no longer a member here) are unavailable. The Youtube uploads made from them by (I think) Tasslehoff are also no longer available (channel removed) but there are a couple of other working links to the concert in that thread that some of us did. So... everyone... as I've already split out Hayley's contribution to the concert into separate tracks, I think I should now upload her solos and duets to our Youtube channel. Unless anyone knows a reason why I shouldn't do that, I will make it so. Cheers, Dave

I feel completely clueless and dumb asking this, but it's time I got educated: How exactly does the "chat" in here work? Is there a URL we have to log on to? I use to chat in the old days but it wasn't user-freindly for Apple computers, so I stopped. So what do I do now to get back in the game?

Thanks, Dave! I remembered the name was something weird like that (to me). i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAnother question: Was this Concert in the Square something special, or did she do other concerts like it in other states across the US? I know she toured with the Boston Pops. If they did something special for her in WI before, maybe they'd do it again!

Hey guys,
I was just reading the article from the Telegraph and it mentioned that Hayley was signed to a 5 album deal when she first started. This being her fifth international album, I was wondering what happens next? From what I've read, it seems like her earlier international albums may have had higher sales in NZ and Japan. So I was just wondering if there's any chance Decca would drop her after this album? I would imagine she still sells a lot better than other artists they have on their label?
(I personally think that lower sales is due to the "novelty" factor which seems to be big in classical crossover...people like buying the "next big thing" and then move on, i.e. Camilla Kerslake's 2nd album didn't do nearly as well as her first although I think there's no big drop off in actual quality of music. But who know how the record companies think.)

If it's not in the Telegraph report it is in one of the recent ones (perhaps an NZ one) where it reports the contract was extended, which implies more of the same on the same terms.

Hi mlb,
Another article recently also mentioned her initial 5 album deal "which has since been extended".

...I was just wondering if there's any chance Decca would drop her after this album? I would imagine she still sells a lot better than other artists they have on their label? I think if Paradiso sells as many or more than Treasure in the UK, she will be fine. That won't be easy though, even though Treasure sold 'only' around 80,000 here I think - but the way the promotion is going so far makes me hopeful. Caution is needed though as UK CD sales have plummeted since the days of Pure and even Treasure, with Hayley's fans (and other classical crossover fans) not bothering much with downloads to compensate. This week's no. 4 in the album chart sold fewer copies than Pure did in 2003 (19,000) when it was no. 8. And Laura Wright's debut this week (also Decca) sold a mere 4,300 copies, entering the chart at no. 24 - having been up in the top 10 at Amazon and in the midweek charts at one point. So as I said, this will not be easy but I am sure Hayley will survive the ever-present "will I be dropped" scare suffered by many artists. She's been around far longer than most of 'em these days - a survivor if ever there was one. I think the original plan by Decca was long-term anyway - and she has good and experienced managers in Bandana, who seem to know all the tricks. Cheers, Dave

So, what has happened to music sales in the UK? I can only imagine that music has become boring. There is nothing new and original. There have been periods like that in the past.
I have felt for as while that pop/rock/soul/disco music has changed very little since the 1970s. And the older stuff is generally better than the new. Music needs a bold new direction, and where better could it come from than artists like Hayley - the new Classical Crossover genre. Perhaps a move back to quality rather than more and more outrageous gimmickry. I think there is a real hunger, as always, for somewthing with a deeper meaning - music with a spiritual dimension. Emotion isn't just screaming in agony - it can be subtle and refined, and our Hayley is an absolute master of that. It is the difference between a blinding light and a rainbow. Paradiso is such a good album we should be thinking about selling millions! There is no reason why something radically different to the mainstream couldn't take off. It has happened before - it could happen again.

"Nothing new and original"? Oh, Martin, are you ever looking in the wrong place! Start with Marina & The Diamonds, Eliza Doolittle, Magazine Gap, Edei, Tiffany Page... But you get the point. Britain is just bursting with talent right now, you just have to look for it - and that list is composed only of newly emerging talent from London, and only a small amount of it! I could continue for quite a while without ever leaving London, or Britain at worst.
How much of it is completely original is a whole other thing, but then almost nothing really is.
Whether it suits your tastes is another matter entirely, of course...

I'll eat a copy of Walking in The Air with Vegemite on one side and Manuka honey on the other if Paradiso does not outsell Treasure.

I didn't say it won't happen, I just said it won't be easy. Getting it stocked by Tesco and the like will be absolutely essential because if they don't, like Laura Wright, it won't - and you'll be chewing on the modern day equivalent of shellac! But as I said, I am hopeful (that Decca will come up with the money needed to get albums into the supermarkets these days). The Rugby World Cup thing probably seals the deal. Cheers, Dave
