I don't see any of them happening at all honestly, Libby, but it's fun to speculate on what would happen if they did You're definitely right that few singers can sing absolutely anything and sound great, not least because a voice can be too good for a song as well as not good enough, and some songs are just designed for a specific type of voice and won't really work any other way (Try to imagine Hayley singing Alice Cooper's Poison, for example. Just not gonna work, is it? ). There's also the 'death by comparison' factor, which is why I've only picked duet partners for Hayley who are exceptional singers in their own right. All good fun

(Try to imagine Hayley singing Alice Cooper's Poison, for example. Just not gonna work, is it? ). I wouldn't know. Not even sure who that is. About the 'death by comparison'; that's why I'm not always thrilled about the idea of her singing songs that have been done before, especially by artists like Celine Dion, for example. Already, people compare her to Enya, Sarah Brightman, and even Celtic Woman! There is a member on youtube who posts videos with Hayley's and Celtic Woman's renditions of Danny Boy and Amazing Grace up against each other, asking people who they preferred. And then there was one of her version of Veni Emmanuel againts Enya's. All it does is cause arguments about who's better, and being mean to each other. That actually happens on a lot of youtube videos. While there are plenty of songs that I know that I'd enjoy hearing Hayley sing, it's better for her to sing more of her own songs. They're usually better than everything else she sings, and then she won't be compared... unless people start singing her songs. When Nicola was wondering if one of the Ennio songs Hayley might sing would be La Califfa, I looked it up and listened to a version by Sarah Brightman. It liked it, and it would be nice for Hayley to sing, but she's going to get compared to Sarah if she does. Also, I've been hoping she won't sing Nella Fantasia, because then she'll get compared to Chloe Agnew. I love how Chloe's delicate voice gives the song an innocent purity. Even though Hayley would sing it beautifully, too, I'd rather that Chloe's version remain my favorite. It's hard to like other singers if Hayley sings everything everybody else does. Most of the time Hayley is better, and then I don't want to hear anybody else's. However, I do much prefer Chloe's Walking in the Air to Hayley's. Hayley didn't do low notes as well back then, and some of her vowel sounds are really odd, especially in the lower notes. Sorry, but even her voice teacher said her diction was "pretty bad" back then.

Libby, This is a problem I think we all have. I know I do. Even singers I like very much, I find myself thinking 'Hayley sung that better...' As for Alice Cooper... On the offchance you're not joking about not knowing who he is, Here is Alice's MySpace. If you want Poison specifically, I'm afraid you'll have to resort to YouTube. And the Wiki article on Alice Cooper.

Well, Libby, I can't disagree, Hayley never wastes her time recording inferior versions of other peoples songs. If she records it, it is going to be special, and that is all there is to it.
Like you I love Hayley's unique stuff, her own compostions and those written for her. And the worlds greatest living composers seem to be queuing up to do just that. I am currently blown away by Karl Jenkins' Gloria, wonderful music that I would have bought even without Hayley's fabulous "I'll Make Music", which is the icing on the cake in my book. I love every other song written for her too, like "Listen to the Wind".

Has anyone heard of a Bosnian composer called Goran Bregovic, who has composed music for some of the best yugoslavian movies? He has a very interesting style, mixing classical, pop and traditional gypsy music, and has collaborated with singers like Iggy Pop, Cesaria Evora or the polish Kayah. I think Hayley would sound great in some of his most famous songs such as Ederlezi or Elo Hi. Dreams is such a beautiful song too, And, although Cesaria Evora has a very, very different voice, I wonder how Hayley would sound in Ausencia (has she ever sung in Portuguese? I don't think I've heard her do that). Michal Hayley and Goran Bregovic? Now that would be something! I'd also like Hayley to collaborate with the swiss harpist/composer Andreas Vollenweider. The album he recorded with the american folk singer Eliza Gilkyson, titled Eolian Minstrel, is fantastic! I'd love to hear Hayley sing on an album like that! (Although it's not drastically different from the music she normally does.) -Tom

O-o-o-h, now that you say "he", I know exactly who you're talking about! But, I've only seen him perform once, on American Idol, but it wasn't Poison. Something about School's Out for Summer. Hardly something to make me want to find more stuff from him. And no, I wasn't joking, hence the embarrassed face smiley.

Hey, I just watched a video of David Garrett playing La Califfa, and it appears that he's a Decca artist. Now, if Hayley did record that song for her album, then there's a possibility for a live Hayley/David collaboration. But I guess she already has Raven to play strings for her, but it would be nice for at least one time.

Libby,
School's Out was one of his biggest hits, along with I'm Eighteen and Poison. Personally, I prefer Poison of the three, which I think is just a better song overall.
If he ever DID duet with Hayley, though, I'd like them to go with Might As well Be On Mars which is a Rock Ballad and sounds nothing like most of his other songs. Has some of those really long notes Hayley always does so well. If you're curious, it's quite easy to YouTube.

Talking of Rock Ballads, anyone else wondering what Hayley might do with Wind Of Change by The Scorpions? That would be fascinating, IMO...

As I said, I'm not really interested in his music. And I hope Hayley never does duet with him, but I don't think I have to worry too much! I heard a song by the Scorpions I kind of liked once. An American ice dancing pair skated to it. I don't remember the title or the words, just how the tune went, because it was years ago. I can't find it on youtube, because it's probably too old.

No, I think you're pretty safe in assuming she'll never duet with Alice, Libby! I don't honestly think it's one of my better suggestions, anyway. Still prefer Ozzy...

Sounds pretty fantastic in my imagination, too, Joanne, I must admit. It's absolutely perfect for Hayley's ethereal voice. That is a song I hope she really DOES sing at some point. I doubt I'd be listening to anything else for a week or two (After which my neighbours might kill me, but it'd be worth it! ). *** For anyone who doesn't know it, Wind Of Change was released by German band The Scorpions in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall. It completely captured the mood of the world at that time. I still get goose bumps listening to it now, even after all this time... Wind Of Change on the official Scorpions YouTube.

I do remember buying a compilation album just to get Winds of Change, I couldn't find the track on anything else. It really had an exceptional sound, crank up the trebble and the volume and it really is something......

Hmm... On the comparison thing, I think at least the poster of Veni Veni Emmanuel did it as a kind of virtual duet, not meant to be one singer against eachother (but, of course, people will always end up discussing this).
In my personal view, Hayley actually does better almost any songs than any other versions, but I can think of a couple of examples that, although Hayley did great, I slightly prefer other artists versions (Enya's voice makes May it be so magically mysthic, I think only her sister in her top form could achieve something similar... and there's When The Stars Go Blue, which I prefer the more rock version by Bono & The Corrs, it has something very special). Then again, I think Hayley can sing anything, and it will sound fine, she has that unique way of adapting her singing to a song while staying true to her unique voice!
On Nella Fantasia... Well, I have to say I had listened several versions of the song, including Chloë's and Sarah's... but never really got caught by it. Then, one day I came to hear the original Gabriel's Oboe (by David Agnew) and I couldn't believe it was the same song, I definately prefer this one on the Oboe... But, if someone can make it really close to that Oboe sound that definately is Hayley... I wonder if she'll record it or not.,

Well, Michal, I Hayley can sing it better than anyone on the planet, she will do so. If she can't, she won't bother. Why should she mess about with songs that others have done better. She never does, so why start now.
