That's part of my problem with the outfit right there. That's why I say she doesn't look like herself. I don't see how this is her all of a sudden, but whatever. Oh, goodness, you think she's going to dress like THAT at all the cathedrals!? I hope she just wears beautiful gowns like she usually does. I'm imagining something white or creme, and maybe sparkly. Maybe something red or green, too, for Christmas colors.

Wow! It took me more than a moment to get used to the dress. Still not my favourite dress of hers. I'm liking it more and more every minute. Very sci-fi. I think it will grow on me a lot.
I agree with Libby though, I hope her Christmas dresses are a little more in her typical style.

I'm sensing maybe a gentle push from her record company perhaps? I quite like the dress, although I'm not hugely phased by the puffs

Hello Libby and everybody! Don't forget that Hayley has stuck resolutely to the 'Pure' image that she's had since her mid teens. Now she's 22 I'm sure she feels the time is right for her to be a little more adventurous, and I agree with her. If you look closely at the photographs you'll soon realise that the familiar Hayley is hiding just behind the facade. I now have a new motto: "I met Hayley Westenra and lived to tell the tale!" i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCongratulations Hayley, you're fantastic! Richard

Hi Folks,
Most of us here have seen more than our fair share of Hayley pictures.
Two questions, Have a good look at the pictures in this thread.
Does Hayley look comfortable in them ?
Does Hayley look happy in them ?

Wow, that's quite an outfit and Hayley totally rocked it! Let's hope she rocks more of these bold dresses in the future. I'm not so sure. It's a bit odd for me. This is nothing like anything she's ever worn before, and that's the problem. It's just not Hayley! It's certainly nothing like the Hayley who wore that lovely white and purple dress at the CBA launch. If this is all the work of a stylist, I am not very impressed with their work. This must be some weird ball, but what do I know? When I think of a ball, I think of Cinderella. I usually like everything she wears, but I'm not a big fan of this one. I do like her hair, though! A little too much makeup, but still pretty. HI Libby, As much as I respect what you're saying, I don't think any of us are in any position to tell Hayley "this is not you" based on a dress. Her dress is not raunchy or racy or anything. She's wearing tights, so her legs aren't exposed, and it's not like she's wearing a super low dress. Hayley has actually worn very low cut dresses before, and while we all have our opinions, I think this dress is a lot more conservative than some of her others, but again, I don't think we have the right to make such a judgement. This is no different to the Hayley we've known, and we can't be putting a negative message out there as though Hayley has become raunchy. She has not. We continue to support Hayley in all she does. Hi Libby and everyone
I was trying to emphasise the fact that, as we're already aware, Hayley seems able to pretty much turn her hand to anything musically so it goes without saying that she is going to wear something appropriate for that particular performance.
Also, many performers only seem comfortable with a certain "look" and, as Martin has already commented, we have recently seen Hayley in three very different guises all of which were appropriate for the ocassion and all of which looked fabulous.
As for what she wears for her Winter Magic cathedrals tour, well, we shall soon find out. I hope we have some new dresses - I suspect there will be at least one.
Best wishes Grant

The more I look at the photographs the more obvious it becomes that Hayley was really only having a good laugh. There's no way she wanted anybody to take her looks seriously, but those pictures could be very useful in the future if she decides to take up acting. She really looked the part there. When Hayley was on stage with Ronan Keating she looked almost normal, but not quite! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRichard

I think you hit the nail on the head, Richard. This was more of a costume than something she would be expected to wear. Indeed -- it was for a Ball and the rules are different there. And as for Libby's objection, I think it's important to allow Hayley room to experiment. As attractive as Hayley appears in most photos she is much more vibrant in person and can rock a wider range of looks than you'd expect. If you were there at that ball you might have seen her dress in its full context and thought "how utterly appropriate."

It is a Vivienne Westwood piece, which means that it is an expensive designer frock for the red carpet. I seriously doubt she would wear Vivienne Westwood on her tours!

Wow! I had to do a double take there to make sure that was really Hayley! If she keeps dressing like that, the other 'Classical Cuties' are gonna have to resort to bikinis if they want to get in the papers! What's the betting she'll get FAR better press coverage for this event than usual?

I think enough has been said to show there is are split opinions. Some, like me, seriously don't see a problem; while others seem to strongly think that this dress is a radical change. As I said, Hayley isn't changing. Here she is wearing a designer dress that is more 'fancy' than her other clothing, she is not turning into some kind of pop star. Can we please move on from the dress issue as we have all voiced our opinions and enough has been said. Dori

I wouldn't shut down this discussion entirely, but merely redirect it to the "Fashion" thread where it actually belongs.

Well, since this thread is about the ball, and Hayley wore this dress to the ball, and we really don't know anything further about it at all, what ARE we supposed to discuss in this thread? We didn't hear the song, or anything else they said or did. Dori, I never said the dress was raunchy. It was just a bit of a shock to see Hayley wearing that. Even though the dress is short, it looks huge. It's huge and small at the same time. I think now I'm starting to get a little used to it now, but it was just a bit surprising at first. I guess it's not so bad, but still not my favorite. Sorry I was so critical, I never meant to criticize Hayley herself. I'm not judging her. I think I was just disappointed because I had been expecting a beautiful, elegant new gown. As I said, when I think of a ball, I think of Cinderella. That dress doesn't exactly say Cinderella to me. I didn't even know they had balls these days! So, what do I know? Don't pay attention to the ignorant American.
