HWI FORUM PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Hi Everyone

For the first time on the Forum it has been decided to run a photography competition to choose the best photographs taken of Hayley by our members. It is being set up as a bit of serious fun but overall it is aimed at highlighting the superb photographic contribution that members have made to the Forum over the years.

Photographs can be from any setting (formal or informal) and taken at any time since the Forum was established back in 2003. All photos, irrespective of technical quality, are welcome if you think they show Hayley in a special way.

If you wish to participate (and more the merrier) please read the competition rules below.

Competition Rules

• Members can enter up to three photographs of Hayley from any previous post. There will be no restriction on content, venue or date.
• All photos must have been taken by a member but not necessarily by the member submitting them. Please ensure that you state who took the photograph (any unnamed photos will not be accepted).
• The entry will start on Sunday 14th June and close on Sunday 28th June after which the Forum Management and Support Teams will reduce the total entry to a shortlist of 12 photographs. Technical quality will not be the primary factor in making the choices.
• Members of the Management and Support Teams will not be allowed to vote for their own photographs when drawing up the shortlist (whoever submits them).
• The shortlist will then be set up on the Forum as a Poll to allow all members to vote for their two favourite photographs. The Poll will commence on Tuesday 7th July and close on Tuesday 21st July.
• Members are permitted to vote for their own photographs in this poll.
• The six photographs receiving the most votes in the poll will then be judged to select a winner and two runner-ups. Details of how this process will operate are not yet finalised but final selection will be made as soon as possible after the closure of the poll.
• There will be no prizes

Please note that the competition will be operated as fairly as possible with no bias being given to either photographic technical quality or personal bribes!

How to Enter

• Please post your entries by replying to this thread. If you are submitting another member’s photo, then the url can be obtained by right clicking on the photo and selecting “Properties”.
• Please check that the photo you are submitting hasn’t already been entered by another member before posting in order to avoid duplication.
• It would be helpful if you could include a link to the forum post where the photo(s) originally appear. By clicking "Link to Post" which appears at the foot of each post, you can then copy the complete link from your browser's address bar.

I will kick the competition off but my goodness, I never realised how difficult it was going to be until I trawled through the vast collection of photos of Hayley on the Forum to try and identify my three favourites. On my first attempt I came up with 18!

Anyway, after a lot of thought I came up with my three as follows (in no particular order):

2 Photographer Steve H, concert : Leamington



3 Photographer Karsten, concert : Belfast

Many thanks for all your hard work to launch the competition. I could find hundreds that deserve to be entered but to narrow it down to three is impossible. Hoever, there is just one which, for me, has always stood out as that 'one in a million' so here it is:

What a great idea! I will have to have a look around. The rules don't really say what constitutes a photo of Hayley. Can this include other people too? How much of Hayley must it include? I know I'm being pedantic!

I will have to have a look. Fortunately I have a special folder on my hard drive where I keep my favourite photos (not just of Hayley though). So that might be the starting point. I need time to think about this.

BTW who is the winner, the person who submits the photo or the person who took it?

Hi Martin,

In Martin's opening post, he explained that the purpose of this competition is to highlight the superb contribution that members have made to the forum. The 'winner' is therefore the photograph itself. But that would certainly be an accolade for the photographer and, arguably, to the member who submitted it.

He also said that entries must "show Hayley in a special way". Whether that necessitates a portrait, a full-length shot or a group shot is your choice.

Ok I feel I may be a little early too. but here is my submission :

6)Photographer: Grant, Royal Glasgow Concert Hall, Glasgow, This is a absolute gem!

7)Photographer: Hayley Westenra, Forum 28, Barrow-in-Furness, Well I think this one is unique as it is one (if not the first) time that Hayley has done a self-photo that Hayley has done with a DSLR


I wanted to add "Box 9" but it wasn't in the rules

There was so many that had to choose from by these I chose for their uniqueness but I know that all the photos posted here are worthy of recognition. So Thank you to Hayley & My Fellow Photographers for your all your efforts.

Hi everyone

OK, here I go with my three - although I have to admit, it was such a difficult choice and I am still not certain that I have got the best three pics. Anyway, this first shot was taken by Steve H as Hayley arrives at Cadagan hall for the Hemi-Help concert in February 2007. I think this is a really unusual shot of Hayley and I simply love her expression, so natural and gentle - it just captures my heart

My next choice comes from the Buxton Opera house concert, April 2008. The photo was again taken by Steve H in Hayley's dressing room after the show, when Hayley met 2007 BGT finalist, Connie Talbot. After spending a magical 15 minutes together, as Connie was leaving, Hayley suddenly rushed over and scooped Connie up in her arms. Just look at the expression on Hayley's face, to my mind this just shows Hayley's love of children and her warm and generous nature.

This photo was taken by our very own Roger (before I knew him) at St Mary's Church Banbury back in November 2005. I love this photo, partly because Hayley looks so natural and relaxed and partly because Roger took this shot just a few minutes after my first ever meeting with Hayley

Hello everyone and thank you Martin for setting us this almost impossible task!

I calculate there must be in excess of 5000 images of Hayley on this forum and I think many of our members will struggle to work their way through all the threads to find their favourites.

So far, I've come up with two but may post a third when I've got more time.
