Well, it is intersting to look at the photobucket stats for these videos now they have been there for a while. Some have had over 1000 views, so it was certainly worth posting them. And even more interesting, only about 10% of those views came from Proboards (HWI) so the rest must be spreading the news about Hayley. Although about half the views are from within Photobucket iteself and the rest from "other sites". Since I don't know of any other sites, and have not yet linked to them from my own website although I fully intend to, this must mean that someone somewhere has put up links I know nothing about! I don't care so long as it is helping to promote Hayley, but it is interesting and perhaps a bit gratifying nonetheless!
BTW overall views on my Photobucket account, which includes most of the photos and videos I have posted on HWI is over 17,000 since last february. It is statistics like that that make me glad I did it!

Great videos, Martin! Hayley sang both songs magnificently, and I agree with Jillian that she should include more songs like those in her repertoire. When she sang 'Rule Britannia', I wonder if Hayley was aware that she was singing the mysterious larger theme that goes through Elgar's Enigma Variations but is not played. If you take the first five notes of the line 'Never, never, never' in the chorus, you will find variations on that phrase in both major and minor key, fast and slow, running all the way through the Enigma Variations from beginning to end. Elgar gave a very good cryptic clue when he said "The principal theme never appears!" i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRichard

Thanks Martin for your two treasures....absolutely lovely. I remember Woburn Abbey for the 1st time Hayley sang Rule Brittania & Land of Hope & Glory. What a thrill that was for me & I'm sure many others. Richard, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the main theme never appears. Would you mind explaining please?? Thanks Graeme

Well done Martin. Excellent videos, thanks for sharing. That's the quality we want to see and what we should have seen for Raven. Interesting Manor house.

Oh boy, Richard, now that is really getting a bit deep for me! Far too enigmatic :rollin Perhaps when I finally get round to unpacking my late father's clarinet, enough will come back to me to give me a clue as what you are talking about! Peter S.

Well done, Martin for the videos and "spreading the word". Hayley sang both delightfully and with passion. I was very humbled listening to Hayley sing these two unofficial English anthems and I would dearly love to hear Hayley sing them at the Last Night of the Proms in the Albert Hall but alas, I do not think that this dream is likely to come true in the foreseeable future. Best wishes Martin ps I think you are a bit carried away in saying on YouTube that England are the finest team on the planet! But I will give you the benefit of the doubt that emotions are still overflowing after yesterday's victory. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I believe England are in fact currently No. 5 in the world according to the official rankings. Enough said or a moderator will say I am off topic. Oh! Wait a minute, I am one.

Quite right, Martin. It is surprising how links follow through. I am a great believer in 'putting it about'. I suspect the links you discover derive from the song titles with alternative singers. What I thought was so delightful about your videos was the way Hayley is so clearly having a great time.

Hi Peter The videos, in fact, are Martindn's and not mine! Don't worry we often get mixed up. Keep "putting it about" Peter Martin

Richard, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the main theme never appears. Would you mind explaining please?? Hello Graeme! That's what Elgar said about the mystery theme that he concealed in the Enigma Variations, and nobody really knew what he meant either. I think he was referring to the word "never" in the chorus of 'Rule Britannia', so he was probably saying that the principal theme is "never", and it certainly does appear -- all the way through his variations. The easiest way to spot the connection is to think of the first five notes of "never, never, never" in 'Rule Britannia' and slow them right down in major key, which gives you the first five notes of 'Nimrod'. Elgar began his theme with the same five notes slowed down and transposed into minor key. He then continued with his own melody and returned to the "never" theme later. He wrote his own variations based on his completed theme, thereby running variations on five short notes from 'Rule Britannia' throughout the work, the larger unplayed theme being the rest of 'Rule Britannia'. I've found a very interesting article which gives some additional clues: www.stereophile.com/musicrecordings/175/To get myself back on topic, I think Hayley sings 'Rule Britannia' so well that she should record it for a future album. Best Wishes, Richard

Now, the question is, are there any more of these videos that are worth putting onto YouTube? The ones i have posted so far seem to have been well received. They are all linked to on this thread, and I am open to suggestions. I want the ones that show off Hayley at her best to become more widely available , but obviously don't want to inflict anything on the world that might not show her at her best. So Land of Hope and Glory, where her mike was switched off, is out. Even if her worst is better than most people's best. So I am open to suggestions. I have my own favourites, Rule Britannia being number 1, but I tend to like the ones where she looks straight at me. This is no measure of musical merit of course, so I would value other opinions. I vow to thee my country is a bit special I think, but it needs to be remembered that this was a special and very moving dedication by Hayley to those brave fallen soldiers, and I wouldn't like to cheapen or disrespect that in any way.
According to the limited Photobucket stats I can see, the favourites are:
1. Rule Britannia 2. Piping Hayley on stage/Pokarekare Ana 3. Scarborough Fair 4. I Vow to Thee my Country 5. Ave Maria
Now Scarborough Fair is less than perfect, since somebody's head seems to be in the bottom left of the picture for part of it. But love it nonetheless. Also Ave Maria.
All requests will be carefully considered.

Hi Martin, I'm not going to offer an opinion on specific videos, for one reason I'm heavily involved in getting the main site transferred over as smoothly as possible (including a complete re-upload) so I haven't had time to view them. Oh look, there goes another gig! I leave it to you and other members to decide but it's good to see you mention the "HWI way" of doing this, especially on YouTube. We upload only a limited selection of the best videos, especially if they are songs that haven't been done many times before, as sometimes happens - ones with good quality video and sound tracks that we think Hayley and Bedlam will be comfortable with (albeit unofficially!). Very few private videos make it through to the main site or our YT these days (this has been our policy since we started hwivid) but on a personal YT channel like yours you do, of course, have much more latitude. I'm sure you'll pick the right ones, keep up the good work! Cheers, Dave

Thanks for your support Dave. Of course if you wanted to have any of these on the HWI site, I would be more than happy to send them to you.
But doing it the way I am I can still link to them from HWI or anywhere else (there is already a link from Hayley's twittter page to Rule Britannia on YT for example - which is where most of the hits seem to be coming from), and it will save you a job - alter all you must have plenty to do right now!
I would welcome anyone's opinions about which ones are worth putting on YT, even it the suggeastion is "none"!
