Nothing weird about it, Martin, I assure you The world would be a very boring place if everyone liked the same things, after all

I've always thought that the lack of 'performing' in Classical Crossover had more to do with keeping costs down. Stage sets and other effects cost money which I suspect the genre doesn't have. However, artists such as Sarah Brightman -- who do rake in the $$$ -- do have the big shows.
I have no doubt that if the universe flipped on its head and Hayley suddenly sold 30 million records that she'd have a big show with ball gowns, smoke machines, video screens and little paper butterflies falling from the ceiling -- it's all about money.

Hi Jillian,
I don't think Hayley needs any of that. And it would distract and detract from her performance I'm sure. There might be other people who would think that that is the conventional thing for a popular artist to do, and try to persuade Hayley, but I would hope that she would resist it. She doesn't need all that fussiness around her. What she does is simple and beautiful, and I can't imagine that spending any amount of money on production and effects could improve on that.
Perhaps keeping it simple is another innovation!

Hello Martin and everyone I would rather experience a Hayley performance than any amount of circuses. You get to know and love her stage mannerisms, the "tightrope walk", the "penguin dance" and the others (see, I've even given them names, but not meant to be derogatory, I love them and they add to the enjoyment of the performance). I know exactly what you mean! Manerisms are like an identify and Hayley has lots of them. They are things that we look out for and are comfortable with and Hayley's manerisms are so endearing you cannot help but love her for them. The "tightrope" walk as you call it is, I think, the way models are taught to walk on the catwalk, it is very difficult to do and requires great discipline. I still look out for Hayley's 'walkdown' on the Celtic Woman DVD - her precision is breathtaking. Like you, I love her just the way she is! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest wishes Grant

Well, a lot of the theatrics has a lot to do with the size of the arenas big shows are performed in. To be honest, you can't have a simple show in a place that seats 17,000 -- you're about 5 centimetres tall to the people at the back and you need to have something that they can see. However, in a theatre that seats a couple of thousand at the most, simple is just fine because the audience can see and connect with the artist. Different sort of medium. But anyway, I'm sure that we'll cross this bridge when we come to it! Yes, WHEN we come to it! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Fingers crossed that Hayley style of performing to a 17,000 capacity crowd will one day be an issue! :rollin

She's had some stage experience, so she doesn't need to go on a soap opera before she can try Phantom of the Opera! Hey, whatever happened to ALW's sequel he was planning? And speaking of ALW, whatever happened to the song he was going to write for her? Well, she said she worked with a talented musician/songwriter this week, but I don't suppose that would be him.

I think Hayley needs to do more TV interviews and magazine interviews, because not many people I know have even heard of her. I know that she was on Britain's got Talent but they've all heard of Faryl Smith, and even Katherine Jenkins, as she has been promoting her new album for months, and has been on so many TV shows recently, I think she needs to focus on promoting her album a bit more, I know she works really hard but with all the other albums and shows on around Christmas she's going to have some real competition this year I love Hayley's voice and think she is completely unique, I just would like to feel that where I come from more people do, especially teenagers, like me, I mean she's only 5 years older than me, pop stars that my friends love are way older than that! I keep asking myself why do people my age say that classical crossover is for very old people, when you have people like Hayley doing it so well with that amazing voice of hers, and other singers like JA, they're singing it and they're not old...besides, what's wrong with old? (I think i'm in a 'keep on and on off topic mood'...or in a mood for thinking I'm off topic all the time ) best wishes Sing

I think it might be Ronan Keating actually. Or the duet she mentioned at least: twitter.com/natalielealand/statuses/5454329925

Maybe. I'm still curious to know why ALW hasn't done it yet.

Hello Everyone,
In the "Festival of Remembrance ..." thread Comet wrote: I have a question about Wikipedia. Has anyone here ever modified a wikipedia entry? I just looked at Hayley's Wiki page and it appears to be open for editing. Why can't we put a link to HWI into the "External Links" section? Maybe we can bring some folks to this excellent forum and get more people actively promoting Hayley.
Just a thought.

That's a great idea -- there's a bit of info on there that might need updating. There's stuff on there about Hayley being a vegetarian and from what I've read she appears to have moved on from that.

Thanks for diverting the discussion to a better place Bill, and although this isn't exactly the original purpose of this thread it's certainly better than the other one. So I'm going to move Comet's entire post to here.
Oops ! I'm not trying to make a point or start an argument, just observations !
The Festival of Remembrance has caused great interest. This is great !
Lots of new people going to their computers to find out about Hayley. Lets assume not all of these people are computer literate, some may be getting their children or grandchildren to help them. What are they going to find ?
I Just Googled Hayley Westenra
# 1 HAYLEY WESTENRA: OFFICIAL SITE WWW.HAYLEYWESTENRA.COM # 2 Hayley Westenra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Teenage songstress Hayley Westenra # 3 Hayley Westenra – Discover music, videos, concerts, & pictures # 4 Image results for Hayley Westenra- www.youtube.com # 5 Hayley Westenra International - HWI # 6 Hayley Westenra on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures
The Official forum is 1st and we (HWI) are the 5th item.
I assume some people start with the first item or go straight to the YouTube videos for instant gratification..
I was watching the guest numbers on both forums the other day, while working, so I was not constantly monitoring or taking notes, just casual watching, The official forum was getting a LOT of visitors. at one point 53 Guests on the official and 7 here on HWI. I made a post here on HWI and Martin asked me what my point was ? I was not trying to make a point just an observation of the activity by NEW VISITORS..
I suppose I should not have put "Two Forums" and "Merit or Glory" in the one line.
There are numerous other sites, no doubt someone will get offended. The more sites the more diluted the content, Repetition all over the place, Photos and videos being reused and reposted often with no credit given,
Surely ONE or TWO English language sites are sufficient ..and maybe our members here on HWI, the best Hayley site in the entire Galaxy.. could also re-post the occasional factual items on the Official site as well .. in the interest of supporting Hayley .. and because for some reason it comes up first when you Google Hayley Westenra.
I am not suggesting a jumping of ship or anything like it. The banter and the craic and the arranging of members meet ups before concerts should continue here as usual.. Just some tasters to bring the more interested NEWCOMER Hayley fans across if they want to...
Oops ! I do seem to have a point now. I don't always think things through when I am just making an observation, it takes time. I am only a man after all and we can only do one thing at a time, apparently if THEY are to be believed
Huh ! I sure can wander of topic eh ? ...I'm easily lead ! [/quote]

Hi Paul, I think we should try to be clear about why HWI is 5th in that list. #1 is going to be a paid advert by Decca/ Quite right too, an artists official site should always be top. #2 is Wikipedia. They are invariably top or near the top, for nearly everything. No fan site anywhere is ever going to top them. #3 is a category link by Google themselves. #4 is another Google category link. #5 is... oh, it's us! I am delighted about that ranking, which is I think the highest it's ever been for a Hayley Westenra search. It's highly unlikely that we (or any fansite) can ever get higher. As for the Wikipedia ideas, I was looking at it myself yesterday and I have done so in the past but it really needs someone who is familiar with how Wikipedia works, knows their rules and has edited there before to make any changes, otherwise they will quite likely be changed back. Also, I have an idea that I read last year a Wikipedia guideline that says "no fansite links". I have seen them elsewhere on Wikipedia on some "artist pages" but not often; I think it may well be frowned on. If anyone wishes to investigate this further and link to their findings, it would be very useful. Cheers, Dave

I added a link to HWI on two previous occasions and they were both deleted within days. Roger

Thanks Roger, I suspected as much. By the way, I can't rememember us being above the Google MySpace link before... LastFM and Twitter too. The Forum's not far down either, on the first page in 13th. 5th and 13th respectively are I'm pretty sure the highest we've ever been so we can't be doing everything wrong! Cheers, Dave
