Thankyou so much for the mp3-the sound quality's amazing! I love the sound of Hayley's voice now, it's so much richer and she seems to find it easier to sing lower notes now...a good sign for me as currently I can't sing lower in my register! Thanks again!

Hi all again. I apologise if this ends up as a repeat but when I first posted this it didn't turn up in the last 50 so appears to have got lost somewhere.
So, just in case this duplicates, the new bit is that Geoff Stevens (unless there is another 'Potten End' which is possible, there are two Berkhamsted's, is just 'up the road from me, not that we have ever met or are aware of one another.
My original post was regarding a friend I met up with the other day who I knew had attended the ceremony and gained a ticket, usually for those associated with the Legion in some way. He said it was very moving, especially when the Chelsea Pensioners and War Widows enter. Apparently the BBC had EIGHTEEN cameras there. I don't recall noticing a single camera on the broadcast. Shows superb vision mixing and much thought into working out camera angles to get those positions so unnoticed. He was impressed with Hayley hearing her close-up despite the real distance being quite considerable. Peter S.

Just got around to watching the video. Wow! This has to be one of Hayley's best duet. I loved the song. If I understand correctly, it was written specifically for this year's Festival of Remembrance. Wish I could find the lyrics somewhere.
Hayley's voice has matured so much - it has become much more expressive and emotional. Her high notes were glorious! Anxiously awaiting the next international release...

Hi Sonata58,
Someone else recently expressed the wish for the lyrics. I searched for them at the time but couldn't find them. Maybe it is just too new. In time, it is likely that they will appear somewhere.

Hi Sonata, I can give you some of the lyrics having scribbled them down whilst playing the video! Regretabbly there are a few lines in the final verse that I cannot quite grasp. Today Won't Come Again Geoff Stevens & Don Black
Let our hearts not waste a moment Summer days will always end, Love can't stop that clock from turning And today won't come again. Ev'ry day's a gift from heaven, Welcome as a long lost friend. Oh my love, I love you dearly, And today won't come again.
I could hold your hand forever, But there'll come a moment when One of us will be a mem'ry For today won't come again. Ev'ry day's a gift from heaven Welcome as a long lost friend. Oh my love, I love you dearly, And today won't come again.
There's a world I cannot conquer [N/K] All I want is you bedside me For today won't come again. [N/K] [N/K] And the mem'ry just reminds us That today won't come again. If anyone can fill in the gaps, please post the additional words in a reply. Roger

Hi Sonata and Roger I've just had a few run throughs of the video to see if I can help. Im fairly sure that line 5 of the last verse is "And to know that there's a reason" Line 6 begins "And our hearts ......" I'll have another listen tomorrow, but I suspect Dave may be able to filter out some of the background for a better idea. Best wishes Grant

Someone else recently expressed the wish for the lyrics. Hi Roger and Grant, Actually it was me. Thank you very much indeed. If I may take part in the puzzle, here's my proposal for the third verse: There are worlds I cannot conquer [N/K] All I want is you beside me For today won't come again. Fetch the ghosts who felt for freedom [N/K] And their mem'ry just reminds us That today won't come again.Cheers, Karsten

Hello everybody.
I'm now fairly certain that line five of the last verse is actually...
"And to those who fell for freedom"

Hello Grant and everybody.
The first two lines of the third verse are...
There are worlds I cannot conquer, I leave them to braver men.
After watching the video again, I now believe line five is...
Thanks to those who fell for freedom
Line six definitely ends with "remember them", but I can't quite make out the first three syllables of that line.

Thanks to Grant, Karsten and Richard for offering suggestions for the missing words. There are still two words in the second line of the final verse and one in the sixth that I still can't quite get (marked in red). But with your help, we now have this: Today Won't Come Again Geoff Stevens & Don Black
Let our hearts not waste a moment Summer days will always end, Love can't stop that clock from turning And today won't come again. Ev'ry day's a gift from heaven, Welcome as a long lost friend. Oh my love, I love you dearly, And today won't come again.

There are worlds I cannot conquer I leave them to braver men All I want is you bedside me For today won't come again. Thanks to those who fell for freedom Our hearts still remember them And the mem'ry just reminds us That today won't come again The "I" in the second line is probably correct. I am not so sure about "leave". I cannot work out the missing word in the sixth line. Does it begin with an "s"? [ Edit - the words which appear in red are now believed to be correct] Roger

Hi Colin, I wondered about "still". Although it makes sense, I am not convinced. It almost sounds like "seed"! Shall we hold a poll? Roger

Hi Roger and all, At first i thought it was "sing" but after some narrow bandpass audio jiggery-pokery on the soundtrack I originally recorded, I heard "still", but sometimes I can hear "will" so I'll check again. Our illustrious NZ members might be able to tell us if they pronounce "still" like "steel" in a song. "Them" at the end of the line is not so clear, it seems to have a "d" where I am expecting "th" - but I cannot think of an alternative to it (unless the word before is "remembered") - and a line with "still" (or "will") and "them" at the end seems to make sense. I'm currently offering 4/6 odds-on if it's "still" and "them", and 2/1 against if it's any other of my suggestions. Now let's see, what else... hmmm, "leave", yes that seems OK. Finally, one thing I'm sure of is that it's "beside me" not "bedside me" as in your post, Roger. Cheers, Dave
