A lovely duet performance by Hayley and Jonathan. The Festival of Rememberance was so very moving and so well presented by Huw Edwards.

Does anyone know what it is Hayley has stuck down the back of her dress? Some technological gadget associated with the wireless mikes? I would guess so. If you looked carefully behind Kathryn, she had hers better hidden because of the style of her dress. Presumably the men put theirs on before putting on their jackets!. Hayley is definitely back on full form with that sustained closing high note. She was obviously suffering a little or rather her problem was either affecting her throat or she was still taking precautions at Northampton. At the Albert Hall she was all complete as usual and in full voice. Thank you Stuartj for providing the video. Excellent rendition for our 'away' people Yes, Stuart, There seemed to be a little play-acting rapport between them with that song of boy/girl-friend. Unlike at Woburn with "West Side Story" when the chap seemed overly amorous and she less enthusiastic. In that sort of duet I think Jonathon would more likely ro empathise with the way she would want to convey passion on stage, subtly by innuendo, not 'full plonkers' and being 'all over her' which was the impression I gained at Woburn! Dave thank you very much for the excellent quality video. This is one of the best duets I have heard. The ending brought a lump to my throat, and I reckon a tear to the eye of Lady Vera Lynn as well. Hi Ross, Yes, Dame Vera Lynn was indeed tearful after that performance - well spotted! You can just about see it even on the compressed videos that I posted but on the original recording, it is of course easier to see. I forgot to mention the songwriters... Geoff Stevens (music) and Don Black (lyricist) who are very well known songriters. The BBC did a special programme not long ago "Lyrics by Don Black" which has its own thread in the forum as Hayley and Jonathan appeared in it! In fact the easiest place to go for details of Don Black (and a mention of Geoff Stevens) is this post here in our very own forum and in fact, that page is the no. 5 hit on Google for "Geoff Stevens Don Black". Peter, I agree about Hayley's final note, in fact I'd go further. I suspect that it may be the most powerful final note Hayley has ever sung on TV and possibly beyond (unless someone knows better). It was impressive. I didn't notice a video posted by Stuartj though, did I miss it? Anyway, I'll post some more from the Festival this evening. Cheers, Dave

Hello Peter! I expect Hayley was using in-ear monitors, which would have required a receiver concealed somewhere about her person. The videos were actually posted by Dave, but Stuart quoted the links. Richard

Hi Dave I have just returned from our own Remembrance ceremony, the last part of which was held outside in the rain, which somehow felt very appropriate. I have felt much closer to the Festival of Remembrance this year. My dad was a firefighter during the war and thus never went overseas to fight, although he saw plenty of action. Consequently, I have never experienced what it must be like for the families of those who have chosen to fight for their country in Iraq and Afghanistan. if I can worry just a little bit about Hayley, what families and loved ones must feel for those actually doing the fighting. Just felt I had to share that. Thank you Hayley!Best wishes Grant Hi Grant, We too had our own remembrance service this morning. One of our elders is also chairman of our local RAF Association, so we always have a large group of ex-servicemen present, and he has done a lot of reseach identifying the names of locals who dies in various wars, so every year the list of names read out gets longer. And this year our own Mayor (Braunstone Town that is, not the Lord Mayor of Leicester) was present. Our own uniforned organisations within the church were present too. Like you, we ended up ouside the church in the rain, planting poppies on wooden crosses in the Garden of Remembrance. And it was very moving. Our minister gave a good sermon on "peace", and asked us to imagine what peace appeared like to each of our senses When it came to "What does peace sound like" I was very tempted to reply "Hayley Westenra singing unaccompanied in a great cathedral". But you are right. I worried about Hayley too, and I too have a family connection since my paternal grandfather dies when my dad was 10, as a result of the use of chemical weapons in the first world war. Martin

Usually, the performer is able to conceal it in a jacket or trousers. But as you can see Hayley doesn't have many options with that dress. It is a very common device used now on stage but I have seen smaller ones! Martin

I think NOT.... Andrew

I think I must have reposted yours (it was your video I think) when I posted quoting you, and someone has mistakenly thought I provided it. I may do some editing to make it plain. StuartJ

Hi Dave I'm not nit-picking, honest! But I've just filed the video of "Tomorrow Won't Come Again" and notice that in your title segment you have attributed it to 2007! So, in case your looking for it in 2009, it might not be there! Ummph!! Gonna have to go and watch it again now! Best wishes Grant

Peter S. I have heard criticism of Vittorio too, and hayley did seem a little "shy" of him. Whether Vittorio was a little pushy or Hayley a bit reserved (and since become more at ease in such situations) is not clear. I think you could make a good argument that Hayley and Vittorio were acting just as Maria and Tony would be likely to in real life. The older (relatively) Tony would be likely to want to move a bit faster tnan his very young girlfried would. I could be wrong, but I got the feeling that Hayley and Vittorio did get on well as friends and there was almost an element of horsing-around at Woburn.

Hi Stuart That's an interesting observation and, although I wasn't at Woburn, so can't comment, I remember a particular interview where Hayley could hardly get a word in and if the rest of him was as active as his vocal chords, I can undertand Hayley's reluctance to get too close! Not that I think there would ever be any intention on his part to be 'too familiar', it just seemed that that was how he was. I do think they worked well together though. Best wishes Grant

Hi Dave ... I've just filed the video of "Tomorrow Won't Come Again" and notice that in your title segment you have attributed it to 2007! Best wishes Grant My goodness, you had me worried there for a minute, Grant - I thought you meant that I had embedded "2007" into the title sequence of the videos themselves (all versions came from the same master file!). Luckily, it was just in the file name of one of the the xvid versions, which I've now changed (together with the links posted in this forum). I haven't yet figured out how to get proper titles to play instead of the filename for xvid videos, I'll get there one day if Windows Media player accepts them (which is far from certain!). The video is now up in the Video Vault at HWICheers, Dave
