I have just received a phone call from Simon's son who is extremely greatful for all the messages of support and condolence on this thread.
Andrew confirmed that the funeral is to be held at 11am (BST) on 15th June. I would ask that members around the world join me in a few moments of respectful thought at the appropriate time.
Thank you.
Roger

I just wanted to say THANKS ., and Welcome any friend to the Funeral to be held in Lincoln on the 15th June 2007. Dad's passing was quite a supprise, i only learnt he had cancer a little over 4 weeks ago and him a day or so ealier, he was given 3-6 months but lasted only 4 weeks, thankfully he is at peace now and no longer in pain. he died from Lung Cancer and eventual failure of internal organs. Kind Regards Andrew Smalley.

Many thanks for you message Andrew.
Very few of us knew you Dad personally though I, like many others, communicated with him in other ways because of our mutual love and respect for Hayley.
We are all very much aware of the debt we owe Simon for his tireless work on HWI before ill health overtook him and I hope it will be some comfort to you that his name will live on in our hearts and on this very special Forum.
Simon will be missed but he will never be forgotten.
God bless you and your family Grant
P.S. Perhaps you could let us know where Simon's funeral will take place. If you would prefer not to post the location, perhaps you could PM Roger.
Many thanks

I was very shocked to learn this news.. Although I didn't know Simon personally, I got so much out of the site he created. His tireless support of Hayley and other musicians gives me a good idea of what a kind soul he was. He will be missed so much... I just get comfort from knowing that, though many of us didn't really know him on earth, we can get to know him better someday when we meet him in heaven. Till then, rest in peace, Simon. May angels continue to sing for you... Oksana

I have only just discovered this very sad news. I am very sad for the departure of our dear friend Simon, but his work is and will continue to be appreciated. He made the most of his short time here on this earth, and I look forward to seeing him in heaven. God bless you, Simon.
Love, Cathleen xx
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Dear all,
Like so many of us, I've not had the pleasure of meeting Simon. However, I felt his kindness and enthusiasm in his e-mails and Christmas greetings.
I'd like to add my voice in expressing my deepest condolences to Simon's son, Andrew. May you find comfort in our words and be reassured that Simon has made a countless number of friends in his many endeavours on the internet. My thoughts and prayers also extend to Simon's wife, Shirley.
I shall pay tribute to Simon on the morning of 15th June by saying a quiet prayer.
Warmest regards, Joe

Dave's announcement (41) of the tribute on the main page seems an appropriate opportunity for me to post my own, while still ploughing through 800 posts since I last was in contact.
My only interchange with Simon was at a time when he had somehow contrived to have an entire TV set fall on his head. He sent me a photograph of the resultant bump--on his forehead--and much of our communication was diverted to the OFF TOPIC hilarity as to the incident and his resultant state of mind.
I am inclined to think of Sir Christopher Wren, the builder of St Paul's Cathedral (amongst many magnificent 'other' churches and public buildings) and the fact there is not a single memorial to him. Just this statement below the copula. "If you seek his memorial, look about you".
In Simon and Keith's case their memorial is our continuity here.
Turning, therefore, to an immediate practical note, it is fortunate that for reasons of administration and individual time constraints, key aspects of site control had transferred to Roger and Dave. To ensure Keith's and Simon's memorial continues not just in safe hands but at all, they too need to take precautions NOW, especially when (God willing) there doesn't appear to be the need.
Peter S.

I have a big thank you for Simon, and Keith as well for that matter.
When I first discovered Hayley, it wasn't long before I checked her website on the net. But thats another story, one website wasn't enough, there was a Hayley World one that closed down, Hayley Westenra Fans and the websites from some of the members on here, but it was HWI that got me all excited. It may not have had any flashy gimmicks but it didn't need them. Whenever I logged on I would go straight for HWI to find out the latest news. And the media section was great, especially when I got broadband and could watch all the videos in high-def.
Its sounds like I'm talking about the website in past tense but its still going well.
Its does upset me this, even if I didn't know Simon or Keith, they were obviously great guys and they will be greatly missed.

Last picture. Where on earth was that taken? i find the background fascinating. Peter S. Hi Peter, The last photograph was taken backstage in St David's Hall, Cardiff on 28th March 2004. That package which Hayley was about to open was a gift from Keith, Simon and me. It contained an HWI sweatshirt! Roger
