I wasnt exactly sure where to post this, but it has come to my attention that Simon Smalley -who my understanding is responsible in large part for this wonderful web site being what it is - is seriously ill.
I guess the best way to provide the current information is to quote from an Email from Gary Scoville, posted on the Just Charlotte mail list among other places
I’m afraid the news is not good. I talked with Simon this afternoon. It turns out the fluid in his lungs is a result of cancer which has spread to his lymph glands. With treatment he may be around for a while but I suspect his quality of life will not be very good. This is very distressing to me, I consider Simon to be my best friend.
I don’t know what else to say. I’m sorry.

Thank you for this distressing news, Jon.
I received an email from Simon's email address about two weeks ago but it had been written by a friend of his. He told me that Simon had been admitted to hospital but only very limited details were given. There was nothing to suggest that it was particularly serious. I have no means of contacting that friend so, if you receive any further news, please let us know. If you judge that it is not for public consuption, please PM me.
Simon is still closely associated with HWI but has not been actively involved for some months due to his general health condition.
For those of you who don't know, Simon (together with Keith who died in 2005) founded HWI and Simon was the sole webmaster until Dave assumed that role last November when I officially became the site owner.
Jon, if you have any means of conveying a message, please give him our best wishes from the whole of the HWI team.
Roger

I too was very sorry to hear about Simon.
I have only spoken to him in connection with my HWI sweatshirt and, from the conversations we had, I could tell that he was not well.
In his better moments, Hayley would be mentioned, and his mood would brighten when he becan to recount memories of meeting her. He always seemed so enthusiastic about Hayley and HWI.
My prayers go out to him; to his family and to all those at HWI that know him better than I.

Best of luck to you, sir. May God send a speedy recovery.

Here is his contact information. I am going to send him a card, along with a printout of this page, probably on Friday. If the spirit moves you, I am sure a short note or something would be appreciated.

Thank you for letting us know about Simon, Jon.
While I haven't known him very long, or had much contact with him I do know what an impact he's made on this site (and other sites). He, and his family and friends, will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days/weeks/months to come.

Thank you for that update Milewalker. Perhaps those who are (or were) in regular communication with him could express our sympathies? One doesn't want to flood the guy with individual emails and sometiems on these matters public knowledge is not actually wanted.

Hi Peter,
As it happens, Simon does have access to a computer - and Gary has stated that emails just might provide him with some motivation to get out of bed. As far as the public release of the information is concerned, Gary has already released it - and Simon has also released a short blog on the JC website. I am merely passing it on to those whose lives I think he might have touched.
There is one thing which has been requested that we not do. It is hard for Simon to talk, and therefore he has requested that people not call him.
