The Treasure Lyrics thread!

Hello everyone,

This is the thread where you can post confirmed lyrics to Hayley's tracks on any version of Treasure or Celtic Treasure.

By confirmed lyrics, I mean that you must have seen the printed lyrics in an official Decca or Hayley publication - or have listened to the complete track to verify that Hayley's version of the lyrics is what you think it should be (which is often not the case!). Please do not search for the lyrics on the Internet and publish that, unless you can verify it (and amend if necessary) by listening to the actual album track!

This means that if the lyrics are not included with the CD album (as in the case of Odyssey) we shall soon have a place where they are easy to find. But I will politely request anyone who happens to have the complete set of album tracks not to just post them all one after the other... let's give everyone who wants to join in a chance, eh?

I suspect that Steve H will soon be reposting his confirmed lyrics for "Abide with Me". Cue Steve!

Abide with me.

Hayley sings verse 1,2 and 8 from the traditional hymn, and repeats the last line of the last verse to conclude.

Here are the three verses in the order Hayley sings them:-

Lyte was inspired to write this hymn as he was dying of tuberculosis; he finished it the Sunday he gave his farewell sermon to the the parish he served so many years. The next day, he left for Italy to regain his health. He didn't make it though; he died in Nice, France, three weeks after writing these words.
For more than a century, the bells of his church at All Saints in Lower Brixham, Devonshire, have rung out "Abide With Me" daily. The hymn was sung at the wedding of King George VI of Britain, and at the wedding of his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

No, it isn't just you, Hayley does say it "Shanindoah" .I think its rather sweet - a New Zealand twist

Thanks for this, Drew. But a little bird tells me that what Hayley actually sings is different from what you wrote in the last line I quoted above and that it should be:

Unless, of course, there is more than one Hayley version out there...

This has to be another choice for Cadogan Hall as Princess Alexandra was a bridesmaid to (the then) Princess Elizabeth and she will no doubt join in the singing with the rest of us.

Thanks for finding the lyrics to 'E Pari Ra', Tim. I am no expert in the Maori language but they do appear to be correct so I will reproduce them here:

E pari rä e ngä tai

The English translation is as follows:
