Well, if we have to confirm our nationality, I have two nationalities, Dutch and Australian. So can I count for two ? Sorry, Gerrit! You only have *one* user ID, so I can only count you once. I'll count you as being from Holland, since that is where you live. Oh! What a shame that PURE has not yet been released there! Decca should release PURE in every country in Europe, already!

Hello, all! I know that this is "Hayley Westenra International" here, but I was just wondering... exactly how "international" are we all? I know that perhaps the vast majority of you live in the UK, but there are also people here from "Down Under" perhaps? Or, maybe even from New Zealand, too? I see that we have a few members from different parts of Europe, such as Germany and Holland... but where else is everybody from? Are there any Canadians here, for example? Let's see HOW MANY different countries we can count amongst ourselves, okay? I'll start... I'm from the USA. (I suppose that you could guess that by my English spelling -- I type words such as "favorite" rather than "favourite" and "theater" rather than "theatre.") i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifWhat country is each one of you from? If you like, I could go back to the first message in this thread every so often, and edit a chart I could insert, counting the participants from various countries! Are you interested in seeing how far Hayley's fame has spread? EDIT: Okay, Hayley fans... here is the promised chart: COUNTRY-------------------Number of Participants ----------------------------------------------------------------- UK *********************** 4 USA ********************* 2 HOLLAND ************** 1 GERMANY ************* 1 -----The above chart will be updated, as this thread progresses... I am only counting those who post here, referring to specific people, but NOT counting how many "hits" this website receives. Is that okay? C'mon, you "lurkers" from other countries... report in!

And, in my opinion at least, a duet or two with Josh would go down very well for Hayley. The effect is quite astounding when she sings with a baritone, and Josh's voice has a fantastic, full and well rounded tone to it. What a brilliant pairing that would be. Hi, Keith! I quite agree with what you have said. Josh's baritone DOES have a deliciously full and well-rounded tone to it, and I am convinced that it would be a brilliant pairing of two of the finest voices on our planet. I recall quite vividly the astounding effect of Hayley singing "All I Ask Of You" (from Phantom of the Opera) on her self-titled CD, together with Shaun Dixon. Their two voices blending together was awesome. How much MORE awesome might it be if Hayley were to record that same song with Josh!!! You may or may not know this... but, when Josh Groban got his initial "start" to singing professionally (he was still in high school at the time), his mentor David Foster booked him as entertainment for the inauguration party of then-Governor Gray Davis of California. At that event, Josh Groban sang "All I Ask Of You," and it overwhelmingly brought the house down. Josh himself has never recorded that song on any audio track, nor has he performed it in public since that occasion, to the best of my knowledge. But, all I keep thinking is how much more power, and how much of a wider range Josh's now-23-year-old voice contains, compared to his then-adolescent voice. Hayley's own voice, too, has matured far beyond what it was when she first recorded that track with Shaun Dixon! It gives me complete GOOSEBUMPS when I consider how "All I Ask Of You" would sound, were Josh and Hayley to sing it together, in duet!!!

I wonder how many Grobanites realise Hayley recorded that clip of "Time to say Goodbye" in the year 2000 when she was only 12 years old? The album it's taken from, "Walking in the Air", was released on a private label later that year when she was age 13. How I wish i could get hold of a full copy of that album! Hi, Dave! Yes... I appreciate your comments. Actually, by pure coincidence, it so happens that late last night (before I even saw your message over here), I posted another link to Hayley's rendition of "Time to Say Goodbye" within a different topic section of the JG message board, for all the Grobanites to see. In that later message, I **did** say that Hayley recorded that song four years ago, in the year 2000. However, I erroneously went on to tell them that she was only 13 years old when she recorded it. I had assumed that was the case, since I knew that she is now 17. But, I shall have to go back there and CORRECT what I wrote. Thanks so much for pointing out that she recorded the track when she was ONLY 12!!! (I guess that it was done BEFORE her birthday that year!) When you said "How I wish i could get hold of a full copy of that album!" -- Those are MY sentiments, exactly! <<SIGH>> Ya! I really wish I could get hold of a copy of that album! Or, if only... if only Hayley could re-record that song on a subsequent album! For example, she did re-record the song "Walking in the Air" for her self-titled CD. Hey... I would EVEN settle for a brand-new SINGLE release of Con Te Partiro, even if it were the only track on the disc! (Hayley, dear, do you read your message board here? Hint... Hint...)

Hello to all HWI fans! I've noticed that there are only 56 of us registered here at Hayley's message board, while another classical crossover artist out there (Josh Groban) happens to have a message board which boasts over 14,000 registered users. Well... I'm a member of both boards (Hayley's and Josh's), and so I've posted a message on Josh's board to try (as best I could) to "lure" Groban's fans over here to Hayley's message board, too! If you want to see the message which I posted to the Josh Groban message board (within their OTHER TOPICS section of that board), then you can copy and paste the following URL into your web browser, or utilise the hyperlink which I've attempted to insert below: p071.ezboard.com/fjoshgrobanfrm2.showMessage?topicID=8454.topicBTW, in the above-mentioned post which I placed on Josh's board, I pasted a hyperlink which those users can click on, to bring them directly over HERE, to Proboard's HWI homepage. I also managed to give them a hyperlink to the MP3 file of Hayley singing a very short audio clip of TIME TO SAY GOODBYE! I sincerely hope that this endeavor adds a few more fans for Hayley! Hey... once they hear her angelic voice, how can they resist!!!

Thank you so much, for starting this thread!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Last night (March 15th) I recorded this concert on videotape, from the broadcast being aired by my local PBS television station. I was away from the house at the time of the broadcast, and I didn't want to miss the show!
Let me just say... this concert was fabulous! I already have the Bocelli CD (Amore) which was released here in the US at the end of January, but this televised concert was even *better* than the CD. I mean, it's one thing just to hear the man, and something extra to both see and hear him! His facial expressions when he sings are interesting to watch. And, also, the impressario and composer David Foster was on the show, and the "banter" between David and Andrea in between songs proved to be rather entertaining in itself.
There also were a few songs performed which do not appear on the CD, so that was an added treat. Additionally, the programme also featured the singer Heather Hadley (in duet with Bocelli) -- a soprano whom I had never heard before, and she is quite good.
This is a videotape which I shall definitely watch again and again, because it is sooooo good! My local PBS television station was "hawking" Bocelli-related merchandise every thirty minutes or so, interrrupting the continuity of the two-hour broadcast. I think that the actual show itself is only 90 minutes in length (not 120 minutes). The TV station was offering a DVD of this programme for a $200 donation to PBS. I believe that this DVD is not yet released into stores at this moment, but I am sure that it will be, within the next couple of months. At that point, it shall probably sell for around $22 or $23 (US currency).
However, if this concert (part of PBS' ongoing series known as GREAT PERFORMANCES) is anything like previous DVD-releases from the same series... then, I am afraid that the DVD might only be released in NTSC video format, coded for Region 1.
This is a terrible shame! Didn't they do the same thing for Hayley's DVD entitled "Hayley Westenra: Live from New Zealand"? Or... did you EVER get any *other* Regional version of that DVD?
I don't have any video-recording card in my computer, else I would have tried to record some of the segments into WMV format, but I cannot do that. Does any other user here in North America have this capability? It would be lovely to share some of this video broadcast with our international friends... but, alas... I'm at a loss as to how to do this.

Hi, all! If anyone is interested, I have found a link on the web to a streaming audio (Windows Media Player required) of one of the tracks from Andrea Bocelli's newest album Amore. If you click on the link below, you will be able to hear the song entitled "Somos Novios," which is a duet sung by Bocelli and Christina Aguilera on his latest album. "Somos Novios" is a Spanish version of the popular standard "It's Impossible." This album, Amore, was just released in North America on 31st January, and I got it!!! It is a heavenly album, and every song is nostalgic and "delicious"! I believe that the album is scheduled for International release on 24th February and for release in the UK on 6th March. Hi, again, Dave! Thanks for your newsy and interesting article about Bocelli and his position on the BILLBOARD. I now realise that I posted a message in (possibly) the wrong thread, concerning one of the outstanding tracks on Bocelli's latest release. I had put my message into the previous thread about Bocelli videos, when it actually should belong here -- but, when I posted it, this current thread did not yet exist! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSo... regarding the album AMORE, here is a link to my other post (you may need to scroll down on that display page, to see it) Listen to SOMOS NOVIOS Edit: I modified the link to take it direct to the correct post. Thank you, Dave, for starting this topic and for posting Cable's contribution -- a PREview of the Boston Concert, as published by the Boston Herald.
On Friday, February 3, 2006 (the morning after the concert) I eagerly looked, with great interest, at the website of the most sought-after newspaper in Boston, The Boston Globe, in order to see what the music critic(s) were saying about the concert at the Wang Theatre during the prior evening.
Well... I did indeed find a review of the Boston IL DIVO concert there, and... TO MY VERY GREAT DISMAY, I noticed that the reviewer COMPLETELY IGNORED the fact that the male popera quartet had anyone at all "opening" the show for them!!! Can you believe that?
If one didn't know any better, and one were reading this review... you might think that when the curtain went up, IL DIVO were the first (and only) to appear that evening, on the stage! Reference to a female vocalist, much less to the name Hayley Westenra, appears to be completely lacking from The Boston Globe review!
How utterly shameful of that music critic!
If anyone here wants me to post the actual review of that concert, as written in The Boston Globe, I would be willing to do that. But, I didn't know whether anyone cares to see it or not, since it doesn't mention Hayley.
Please let me know, if you care to see it.

Hi, Dave! Thanks ever so much for reprinting the review of the IL DIVO concert, as posted in The Globe and Mail. It was much appreciated. For an added twist, I am providing here below a reprint of an article about the IL DIVO concert (no mention of Hayley, sorry), as it originally appeared the morning after the concert in Toronto's newspaper, The Toronto Star. (I am sure that we shall all find parts of the following rather humourous!) BTW, in certain sections of the article below, the bold lettering has been highlighted by me, to emphasize the "craziness." Divo's Divas' go middle-age crazy Feb. 7, 2006. 05:18 AM by RITA DALY STAFF REPORTERThe heart-racing banter has been raging for months. Between full-time jobs and raising school-age children, mature women have been chattering online like teenage groupies about the world concert tour of their pop-opera heartthrob quartet, Il Divo. The ladies call themselves "Divo's Divas." Women, many in their forties, fifties and yes, their eighties, have been ogling and Googling over "the boys" in a craze not unlike the days in the `70s when middle-aged housewives tossed their knickers on-stage at Tom Jones concerts. "I'm so excited, I'm feeling like a teenager!" enthused a Montreal woman named Lina in an on-line forum in the days leading up to their idols' Canadian tour. Last night, throngs flocked to Il Divo's concert at the Air Canada Centre, including Rosa Dato, of Mississauga, and her two grown daughters. They stood anxiously at the front of the line, gushing about the quartet. "I saw them on Oprah and fell in love with them," Dato, a 60-year-old grandmother, said breathlessly. "I need to meet them in person, I'm dying." Lois Fulton, 51, of Toronto, painstakingly counted down the days to last night's performance, which she attended with daughter Jennifer, 28. It was almost as bad as waiting for her knee replacement surgery last year. Fulton also first caught sight of the act on Oprah last April and was immediately swept away. "I've been listening to them ever since and driving everyone nuts!" Does she like opera? "Not really," she replied. "But they're so good-looking and their voices are phenomenal. Raises the hair on your arms!" Some New York City fans who met online recently took to wearing red scarves to concerts as a way of identifying each other. They may have started a trend. Immediately, there was chat among some Canadian fans about wearing the ruby accessory — "although my complexion looks absolutely horrible next to red" — for the Niagara Falls concert scheduled for Valentine's Day. Il Divo's renditions of such popular ballads as "Regresa a Mi" (Un-Break My Heart) and "Senza Catene" (Unchained Melody), has ignited young and older women's libidos in countries around the world. From Australia to Belgium, England and Brazil, women are busting open their hearts and wallets to buy tickets on EBay, cash in Air Miles and leave their husbands and kids at home for a chance to see their "opera hunks" live. These are not your giggly teenybopper groupie fans going ga-ga over the Backstreet Boys. These are mature, self-respecting grown-ups who have fallen hard for four 30-something "popera" singers (Il Divo is Italian for male diva). Critics say Il Divo — conceived by American Idol judge Simon Cowell — is successful because it marries pop with classical music, multi-nationalism with multilingualism, and natural good looks with a GQ style that includes Armani suits and ties. The fans are usually nuts about one Il Divo or another. Urs Buhler of Switzerland's followers call themselves Uber Babes. ("He's Uberlicious.") There's also Spain's Carlos Marin (Carlos' Cuties), Frenchman Sebastien Izambard (Seb's Sirens) and American David Miller (David's Divas). "I'm a Siren," Kirsten Ulrich, a mother of three from Hamilton, purred last night. "Seb just seems like an all-around nice guy." Her friend, Connie Lewin, is a Cutie. "I have always had a preference for baritones and I just think Carlos has the most amazing voice." The quartet has seen popularity swell in the past year with a string of promotional TV appearances — the Martha Stewart show, Oprah, the Young and the Restless. Donna Layne, a 51-year-old warehouse clerk in Woodstock and her 83-year-old mother, Jean, have been following the singers since last August and felt lucky to get tickets to last night's concert — Il Divo's first appearance on a Canadian stage. "I have several girlfriends who wished I'd told them I got tickets because they're in love with them too!" Layne confided that her heart belongs to Carlos. "The baritone voice; when he does his little solo parts, I just get shivers." She equates the foursome's gentlemanly manners and fast-rising popularity to the early Beatles. "What really blows my mind away is there's a whole group of fanatics in England. Some of these women have bought tickets at every venue you can imagine. At least four of them are flying from somewhere in England to come see them at Niagara Falls."Mind you, I'm going to see them in Niagara Falls too."

Hmmmm... I'm thinking about this one... Tell me, *HOW* did you know about the difference between the broadcast version and the DVD version of the New Zealand concert? Did you have a chance to *preview* the DVD itself, before the concert ever "hit" the American television airwaves? Does this mean that the North American version of the DVD (video format NTSC and Region Code 1) is actually **NOT** the very first DVD version of this concert film to be distributed in the world? Was this concert video previously released in Australia or New Zealand and/or the UK -- digitally encoded using a different Region Code? Or... (conversely) are you folks in the "Mother Country" being left "out in the cold", so to speak? I mean, are we "Yankees" over here the only ones to whom this DVD is currently being distributed? I also find it just a tad annoying that the DVD is being kept under such tight lock-and-key here in the USA. I mean, it is not even yet available in Thirteen/WNET's own online store, and it's certainly not to be found at retail establishments. Currently, it is only available as a PBS station pledge-gift. This situation surprises me greatly, because... a similar program which was likewise filmed and produced by WNET ( Josh Groban Live at the Greek) already hit the retail store shelves around the same time that it was broadcast on television. I think that Hayley's management is terribly limiting her exposure and her marketability by permitting WNET and Decca to so greatly delay the release of this product to merchants nationwide. At the present time, the only people in America who are aware of Hayley's video are the ones who happened to "catch" a glimpse of it on television. And, here again, there were actually so very FEW television stations around the country which carried the broadcast that most people in the USA are completely unaware of its existence. It is really sad that after all that effort on the part of WNET-Channel 13, very few PBS stations aired it. (My local PBS affiliate, for example, did NOT.) Only those who saw the broadcast "might" be moved to make a donation to PBS to acquire the DVD. Yet, others -- perhaps potential consumers of Hayley's music -- do not even have the opportunity to see this magnificent DVD proudly exhibited in some store display case somewhere. Perhaps if the video album cover caught someone's eye... they might pick it up to examine it more closely? It is crazy for Universal Music Group to limit the distribution of this DVD solely to benefactors of PBS. Josh Groban's latest DVD enjoys a marketing approach that is in marked contrast to Hayley's: One can acquire Josh's DVD as a pledge-gift from PBS; one can purchase it in any retail music or video store; one can buy it online at Amazon.com or at bn.com, too. The sales figures for Groban's DVD speak volumes for the advantages of a three-pronged marketing approach. Hayley's team ought to take notice. It is quite ironic that when Thirteen/WNET first aired the programs "Hayley Westenra Live From New Zealand" and "Josh Groban Live at The Greek," they aired these two episodes of GREAT PERFORMANCES back-to-back. On the night that each of these broadcasts premiered, Hayley's came on at 8:00 PM, followed immediately by Josh's at 9:30 PM. Since that night, the sales figures for Josh's DVD have been phenomenal. But, what of Hayley's DVD? It certainly deserves wider distribution and more publicity! Her DVD is (as of yet) an undiscovered jewel.

...my pledge gift was four tickets for her tour in May. Joe, Good for you!!! Which TV station was providing tickets as pledge gifts? Was it the station in Allentown, PA? I know that they are having a private concert for pledges only on April 29th, is that right? Are there other stations which are doing a similar thing? I haven't heard about any others.

I did not think, at that time, that this vocal piece (Aria) was ever part of Hayley's current repertoire! Back several months ago, when I mentioned this song, no one here on the board ever told me that Hayley had done it. Had she ever done it before?? I mean, before she recorded this concert DVD? Has she ever sung it in the UK? Have any of you out there ever HEARD her sing this? It is gorgeous beyond description. Hi, again. Nobody actually ever answered the above question. I just posed it out of curiosity... I'm just wondering... since, Hayley sang Aria on August 15, 2004 before a sold-out audience in Wellington, NZ... could I assume that she performed it onstage before? Or, was the Wellington concert her premiere presentation of that song? Might she have previously performed it in Europe? I've never seen her in concert. Many of you (across the sea) have. What has been her "typical" song list in most of the concerts which you have attended? Do you think that her "Pure Tour" in North America will feature ONLY the songs found on the Pure album? Or, might we get some of the songs seen and heard on the DVD? (Keeping my fingers crossed...)

Any post to any board on the forum which is on the subject of a potential copyright infringement will be deleted immediately I see it. Also, because of the TOS for having this board, if I did not act in such a way and was reported to Proboards, they would delete the forum in it's entirety as soon as they checked up on it. Keith, I do understand (and I totally agree) about our need to avoid any potential for copyright infringements, and it was certainly *NEVER* my wish to encourage any illegal activity of any sort. I have the utmost respect for Hayley and for Universal Music Group, and I would never want to do anything to "rob" them of their rightful financial recompense for all the hard work that they do. I'm afraid that I apparently misunderstood, imagining that tiny little clips would serve to promote Hayley and to promote/increase the sales of her DVD as well as her albums, and I did NOT regard any clips as having the potential to be utilised as a "substitute" for the purchased retail product. I guess perhaps I was misled or confused by the fact that the Hayley Westenra International web server already does contain several audio clips (very short snippets) of tracks from three of Hayley's albums, as well as a tiny little clip of "Con Te Partira". Are those clips housed over there not provided for Internet users with the "blessings" of Hayley's management? Are they not there simply to persuade computer users to run to the store and buy the albums from which these clips came? When does it constitute copyright infringement, and when does it not?

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeekk!! Why am I screaming? Because...
Just today, in the mail, I received the long-awaited DVD of Hayley Westenra's concert which was broadcast on PBS stations in the USA, in December 2004. The name of the DVD is "Hayley Westenra: Live from New Zealand." It is a recording of a live concert which Hayley gave in the middle of August, 2004 in Wellington, New Zealand. (Incidentally, I could not find this video title anywhere at Amazon.com, nor at Barnes & Noble, so I acquired it as a "pledge-gift", by dint of making a generous contribution to Channel Thirteen-PBS in NYC.)
Now, I had already seen this concert on the TV special "Great Performances" as it was broadcast during Channel Thirteen's pledge week, and my very kind nephew in New York City had recorded the program for me on videotape.
HOWEVER... HOWEVER... What I did not know last month when I first viewed the videotaped television broadcast was the fact that the actual DVD contains TWO bonus tracks which were omitted from that television broadcast (due to time constraints).
The bonus tracks are: Never Say Goodbye, ***AND*** (are you ready to hear this?) -- The other song is called Aria (Cantilena), and it is the vocalise taken from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos!!!!!!!!
Do you guys remember that on another thread on this board several months ago, I said that I would absolutely melt if Hayley might ever sing Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 (!)? I just simply made that suggestion, thinking that the possibility of it ever actually coming about was quite remote!
Well... I guess that this DVD shows us that indeed, this piece is already part of Hayley's repertoire, and I've just really GOT to tell you that she does a MAGNIFICENT job with it -- just as I imagined that she would! This afternoon, the first time that I heard her sing this piece on the DVD, I quite nearly fell off my chair! Furthermore... okay, I confess... I'm a very emotional person... but this vocalise is sooooo incredibly breathtaking that I found myself in a pool of tears! Happy, happy, happy tears!
GO Hayley!!!!!!!!! You are amazing, Hayley!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> A question for all you tekkies out there... Keith? Gerrit? Is there some way in which one might convert only just the audio portion of the DVD into a computer audio file so that a sound clip could be shared with other fans on the Hayley International website? I don't know whether or not this DVD is available in Europe? If you have it, could you make a clip of this song? The DVD which I have says that it is video format NTSC and Region Code 1.
