Yaaaaaaaay!!! Hey, Simon... hey, Keith! Thank you, guys... thank you sooooooo much!!! I see that you have "repaired" the three music clip files which I referred to, above. They work great now, and that "pesky" name of Aretha no longer makes an appearance there. BTW, could we hope to see an additional link at that site to NEVER SAY GOODBYE? (hint, hint)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but I thought that I ought to mention what I perceive as a little "boo-boo" in the audio section of the Hayley-Westenra-International.com website which offers up the audio (MP3) files. The three MP3 files listed below, when they play, mistakenly display the name of the artist as " Aretha," but this is an unfortunate TYPO, and the artist is actually Hayley Westenra. Additionally, the designated track listing number embedded in each of these files also causes the Windows Media Player to be displaying the wrong track number (for the CD). But, in spite of the minor informational errors, you can enjoy the lovely sound of these audio clips, anyway! www.hayley-westenra-international.com/mp3_files/PureTracks/20030723%20Hayley%20Pure%2002%20Beat%20of%20your%20heart.mp3www.hayley-westenra-international.com/mp3_files/PureTracks/20030723%20Hayley%20Pure%2004%20Dark%20Waltz.mp3www.hayley-westenra-international.com/mp3_files/PureTracks/20030723%20Hayley%20Pure%2008%20River%20Of%20Dreams.mp3I am not sure whether or not there are still other MP3 files on the HWI website which display the same sort of wrong information while playing, since I have not tested all of the files. But, do you have a program which EDITS the informational content of MP3 files, such that these misnomers can be corrected? (I happen to use a program on my own computer called RealJukebox, which has the capacity to edit some of the "label" data inside an MP3 file.) P.S. Who is Aretha, anyway?

It is not ONLY the "br" string which is awfully weird over here! In a post yesterday, I attempted to write the phrase: "my a-s-s-u-m-p-t-i-o-n" -- except, please understand that I originally typed the second word without any of the hyphens in between. I have inserted the hyphens *here* only because OTHERWISE this Proboards software completely changes the first six bytes in the string. Apparently, when Proboards sees anything that starts with "m" , "y", followed by a space, followed by "a", followed by "s", "s"... it removes those six characters, and it substitutes the word "I" for "my" and then it substitutes the word "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifisagree" for the three letters beginning with "a" followed by "s" followed by "s". So, I was unable to say "my a-s-s-u-m-p-t-i-o-n"! When I typed it straight out, without any hyphens, it looked like this: my assumption LOL!!!!!!!!!

Keedie

You should buy her album - it's amazing. As I type this message, I am listening to the most recent addition to my CD collection, playing in the background. It is the debut album which was released last year by KEEDIE! And, it just arrived by international Air Mail from amazon.co.uk -- yesterday! I just couldn't resist the sound of her voice, which I had heard for the first time a few weeks ago, in the background of the film "Modigliani." I loooooooove this album! Maybe her voice is not as "pure" as Hayley's (KEEDIE has a very noticeable vibrato), but it sure is impressive to listen to. She has many different "colours" to her voice, and it can sound very pop (like Celine Dion), or very operatic (like Sarah Brightman). My most favourite tracks on the album are "Vedi Maria" (in which Keedie duets with herself), "Only Time" (a cover of a piece by Enya), and "My Reason" (a very emotional piece which served as the theme song to the film "Modigliani"). She also does a great interpretation of "Ave Maria" (by Bach/Gounod), "Time to Say Good-bye" (the Bocelli signature song), and "Vissi d'arte" (from Puccini's Tosca). I'm not overly impressed by the track from which the title of this album is taken, however -- "I Believe My Heart." The reason that I don't care much for it is not because of Keedie's voice, though. Her voice is fine. I just think that this isn't one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's better songs. At first, I thought that the album might be too costly to import from "across the pond," but that turned out not to be the case. In fact, it is rather surprising that Amazon in the UK is charging only £5.07 (WITHOUT the VAT) for this album. We Yankees don't have to pay any VAT, but even if you were to add-on the VAT amount, this album would still be an unbelievable bargain! I mean, it is more than £2.50 BELOW the cost of Katherine Jenkins' latest album (Living A Dream), for example, and more than £2.00 BELOW the cost of Il Divo's latest (Ancora). I'm not sure how EMI manages to distribute this for such a cheap price! Aside from the price, there is NOTHING "cheap" about this album. First of all, the album liner says that it contains 17 tracks. Accordingly, the liner notes list the titles of only 17 songs. Wrong! It actually has 20 songs! Well... technically speaking, there are only 17 track delineations, but... it so happens that the entire track #17 is over 20 minutes in length! What happens on track #17 is that it (secretly) contains a grand total of 4 songs. Here's how: After the song which is listed for track #17 finishes playing, you might expect the CD to stop rotating on your CD player. But, it doesn't stop. It continues spinning, although you don't hear any sound. You are treated to over 4 minutes of dead silence, as you begin to wonder what in-the-devil is going on??? Ultimately, the silence is finally broken, as you hear some new-age sounding instrumental music. Then, at approximately 8:35 on the track's time-counter, Keedie begins to sing again. You suddenly hear Keedie singing (Lascia Ch'io Pianga), followed by the Flower Duet from Lakme, which is then followed by "Un Bel Di" from Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." Essentially, EMI has added these three "bonus" songs at the end of the album, without listing them anywhere. My only two complaints are: EMI could have delineated them into separate tracks, which they didn't do -- perhaps to keep you from accessing them separately. The only way to get at them is to listen to all of track #17. My other complaint is that you have to wait (wade?) through more than 4 minutes of dead silence in order to hear the first of the bonus songs! Could they not have given you 45 seconds or even 60 seconds of silence, and then introduced the bonus area of that track? It's like... what? Did they want you to "give up" and turn off your CD player without ever discovering the "surprise"? How exceptionally weird!!! My question is... is this a common practice in the record industry...? And, I don't just mean the practice of having "hidden" tracks -- I know that a lot of albums feature "hidden" tracks. But, I mean, the practice of inserting over four minutes of DEAD SILENCE prior to the "hidden" material. Isn't the silent period normally much shorter?

I heard Keedie for the very first time in my life, a few days ago. Wow!!! I was just totally amazed by the gorgeous quality of her voice.
The way in which I heard Keedie was in itself rather unexpected: my husband and I went to a local video store, looking for a DVD to rent. We often prefer to watch new releases at home, on TV, rather than to go to a movie theatre.
Well... we rented the film "Modigliani" starring Andy Garcia. And, guess what? KEEDIE's voice is singing in the background, on the movie soundtrack!
As the film opens, Keedie is heard singing Caccini's version of Ave Maria. At first, I almost thought that it might be Hayley, as the melody was so familiar. Then, I realised that it was not Hayley, but someone else. Keedie also sings a special song written just for the film, near the end of the movie.
I think that Keedie is awesome!

Dave, You are so right about the UK having such an impressive "run" on newly-released classical music! How we (over here on the Western side of the Atlantic) envy you! May I add one more title to your display of newly-released albums? There is a brand-new group (a quartet, actually) of male vocalists and they call themselves IL DIVO. Yes, yes, I know... they are being promoted by that thoroughly "obnoxious" impressario Simon Cowell, but I am nevetheless going to overlook that, and focus upon the SOUND that comes out of these gentlemen. These four male voices -- an American, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and a Swiss -- just released their debut self-titled CD album (IL DIVO) in the UK, yesterday (November 1, 2004). Okay... so they are not "strictly" Classical in the sense that Russell Watson or Katherine Jenkins or Andrea Bocelli are. But, they are attempting to blend the sound of pop with the vocal technique of classical singing, to produce a Popera sound, or Classical Crossover, if you like. Even if you are not too "keen" on their selection of songs, just give a listen to the sound of their voices! They blend fantastically well together! I am providing a link here to a web page which allows you to preview one track from their new album. On that page, you have the option of choosing either RealAudio or Windows Media, either broadband or dial-up (lower) speed versions of each. IL DIVO In the above link, the group are singing Regressa Mi, which is an Italian-language cover of the Toni Braxton pop hit "Unbreak My Heart." True, not classical, but it sounds lovely! And, by the way... if you should like to see what these fellows look like: Here below is a graphic of the cover of their debut album:

Dave, Thank you so much for your reply. Especially, thank you for giving me the name of yet another vocal artist whose career and work I can explore. I am always eager to hear about new singers, and very grateful to be introduced to names which I am unfamiliar with. I have never heard of Anna Netrebko, but of course I don't claim to be any sort of "savante" about the opera world! I only know the names of just a *few* opera divas, but I am continually trying to expand my knowledge in this realm. Until recently, one of my favorite operatic sopranos has been the quite famous Kiri Te Kanawa. What is it about Australia and/or New Zealand that this section of the globe seems to offer the world some of the greatest singers? Is it their climate? Recently, I discovered an operatic soprano named Victoria de los Angeles. (I'm ashamed to say that I do not even know whether she is still alive or not... I say that because I never hear anything about any current live productions with her name attached.) I only discovered her name and her voice by listening to a few CDs. If you have not yet heard Ms. de los Angeles sing the Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 (composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos), you do not know what you are missing! She has a voice that is out-of-this-world... a voice which literally sends shivers running up and down my spine!

Hello, again! I hope that you don't mind my re-posting, but no one responded to my last inquiry, regarding the Norwegian soprano, Sissel. Does anyone here enjoy listening to Sissel? Are you familiar with the sound of Sissel's elegant voice? What do you think of her? If you have never heard Sissel, you might want to watch this Windows Media video (see link below). It is a video clip of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize Concert, originally broadcast from Oslo, Norway. In this clip, Sissel sings together with Josh Groban, in a duet of The Prayer. Better than Charlotte, no? www.olografix.org/krees/dfnet/multimedia4/video/Josh%20Groban%20-%20Sissel%20-%20The%20Prayer%28Nobel%20Peace%20Prize%20Concert%202002%29.wmv If you want to save the above video to your hard drive, rather than to have it run as "streaming" -- you may download it by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Save Target As..." Downloading the file directly to your hard drive prior to viewing it (offline) on your computer will conserve the consumption of bandwidth on the web, or so I've been told.

Hello, again Gerrit! Hi, Dave! A heartfelt THANK YOU to both of you for all your insightful contributions to this discussion. Thank you both, for explaining to me the differences between a soprano and a mezzo-soprano, as well as for all of your other observations. I must say that I am really enjoying this exchange, enormously. I also find it difficult to say which vocalist I like better, Hayley or Yulia? Actually, it now occurs to me that this is a most "unfair" question. It is like saying, which dessert do you enjoy more, tiramisu or creme brulee? Fact of the matter is... I like them equally as well! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifWell, I can concur with Dave that Yulia does sound more breathy than Hayley. I find it difficult to say which one is 'better'. When we talk about Charlotte's appeal, it was the youthful character of her voice that appealed to people, not perfection in singing. That youthful voice also had emotional power and added substantially to her sales successes. However, technically, I think Hayley, Katherine and Yulia are superior, and I reckon Hayley is the best in that department. As far as Charlotte is concerned, I never really cared for her too much. I always felt that when she hit the highest notes of her vocal range she squealed or screeched just a tad. In truth, I often commented that her voice "grated on my nerves," almost akin to fingernails skimming across a chalkboard. I think that all of the "hype" surrounding Charlotte was primarily due to the fact of her young age, and less due to the so-called "magnificence" of her voice. With Hayley, it has always been entirely different... yes, she started out at an astonishingly young age (as did Charlotte), but the similarity stops there! Hayley's voice NEVER screeches (to my ears), and she even sounds much better than the "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifiva" Sarah Brightman when she sings selections from Phantom of the Opera! In fact... you want to talk about "breathy"? Most recently, Sarah Brightman has one of the more annoyingly BREATHY voices around. Just listen to Sarah's CD entitled Harem -- the sound of her sucking in her breath throughout every track is most distracting! And, as long as we are discussing other sopranos and mezzo-sopranos... what do you folks think of the Norwegian vocalist Sissel? I think that Sissel has a delightful voice, perhaps not as emotional as Yulia's, but warmer and less formal (and, less operatic-sounding) than Katherine's. In addition, Sissel seems nearly as pitch-perfect as Hayley. Perhaps her range is not quite as high as Hayley's, or maybe it is, I'm not sure. Her voice does NOT have the "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifark" sultry sound of Yulia's or Katherine's, though... so I imagine that Sissel is a soprano, and not a mezzo-soprano.

Hi... I hope that I am placing this message in the correct topic forum. This relates to singers other than Hayley, as well as possibly to Hayley herself, so here goes... We have heard a great deal lately about two upcoming new vocalists, specifically Yulia Townsend (from NZ) and Katherine Jenkins (from Wales). Now, I have two questions related to these two artists: (1) We have been told that Katherine Jenkins is a mezzo-soprano, whereas I believe that Hayley is categorised as a soprano? What exactly is the academic definition of a "mezzo-soprano" and does that mean that Katherine cannot hit as high a note as Hayley? I listened to some of the songs on Katherine's website, and it sounded to me as if she did hit some pretty high notes! What makes her a mezzo-soprano? (2) Secondly, what about the singer Yulia Townsend? How do we define the way in which she sings? In other words, is she a soprano? Or, is she a mezzo-soprano (like Katherine)? Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can clarify this. I am just wondering about the precise meaning of the terminology

I was told, by a PBS recruiter, that Sissel is coming to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Pa. US. on October 12 2006, to promote her new CD. .....TimJ Hi, Tim! I'm not sure where that PBS recruiter got their information, but I found a DIFFERENT date posted on the Internet, regarding Sissel's live concert in Philadelphia in October. (BTW, it seems that Sissel cannot be in Philadelphia on October 12th, because she appears to be booked into a venue in the city of Chicago on that date!) If you go to the website of WLVT-TV (the PBS affiliate station located in Allentown/Bethlehem), you will see that they have reported a Sissel concert date of Saturday, October 7, 2006 for her performance in Philadelphia. What's more... they are saying that the concert is to be held at The Academy of Music, and NOT at the Kimmel Center, in Philadelphia. The Academy of Music is located one block away from the Kimmel Center, which might explain the confusion. I believe that the URL for WLVT-TV is: www.wlvt.orgIf you go there (on your web browser), you should browse in the "Support" section of their website. That is where they *include* the following incentive of 2 tickets... I have given you the link for it, here below... secure.wlvt.org/Join/step1.cfm?pmPROG=10305Elsewhere on this message board I had previously posted the following message (it was in the Sissel Audio topic)... <<At least four specific PBS television stations have, on their individual websites, announced "Thank You" gifts of 2 TICKETS to a live concert to be given by Sissel in a venue local to their viewing area, during the month of October, 2006. (They are currently urging would-be members to donate now, before these tickets go on sale to the general public.) Well... THIS IS HOW I KNOW THAT THESE TICKETS EVENTUALLY WILL BECOME AVAILABLE FOR SALE, TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC (and shall undoubtedly cost far **less** than the $200 which PBS want as a donation)! You understand... we have all seen this done before, for example... by WLVT-TV in Easton, Pennsylvania (prior to the special concert which our Hayley gave there, last October). Anyway... based upon information recently gleaned from WLIW (in NYC), from WLVT (in Allentown/Bethlehem), from KETC (in St. Louis, Missouri) and from WTTW (in Chicago, Illinois)... HERE ARE (at the very least) A LISTING OF FOUR "KNOWN" LIVE CONCERT APPEARANCES BY SISSEL, WHICH ARE CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE in OCTOBER, 2006: Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 8 PM: The Town Hall, 123 West 43rd Street, New York, NY. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 8 PM: The Academy of Music, Broad & Locust Sts., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (this is the performance currently being promoted by WLVT-TV, in Allentown) Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 7:30 PM: Touhill Performing Arts Center, St. Louis, Missouri Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 7:30 PM: Park West Theatre, 322 W. My favourite song of hers is 'Should It Matter' and 'Where The Lost Ones Go'. They are both lovely songs Hi, Nicola! I also adore Sissel, and my favourite song of hers is "Oblivion" which is found on her 2004 classical crossover album entitled My Heart. On that same album, she also does a terrific duet version of Schubert's Ave Maria, with Bryn Terfel. By the way... ATTENTION... LATEST breaking Sissel NEWS... As previously announced, her newest album, Into Paradise, will be released in the UK on 23rd January, 2006. IN ADDITION TO THAT... Decca (Universal) has just announced that Into Paradise will be released in the USA on 14th February, 2006. That coincides with St. Valentine's Day! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI'm wondering if all the tracks shall be the same on both releases (UK and USA). I hope that they don't remove Bachianas Brasileiras from the American release, as they did with Hayley's Odyssey album!

Hello, fellow-fans of Hayley and of Sissel!
I have to say, of all the female voices in the world, Hayley's is my most very *favorite* (naturally!), but Sissel's is a very, very close second!!
I have two of Sissel's CDs -- the only ones ever released in the USA -- "Sissel" and "My Heart." One of my MOST favorite songs on the "My Heart" album is a song written by an Argentine composer whose name was Astor Piazzolla. This delightful song is entitled "Oblivion." Sissel does a magnificent job with it, and I would love to hear Hayley do a treatment of the song, someday!
NEW... BREAKING NEWS on the Sissel scene.... It has just recently been announced by Sissel's record label that she will be releasing a brand-new album in the UK on 23rd January, 2006. Sissel's newest album will contain two songs that have already been done by "our" Hayley!
The name of Sissel's upcoming album will be Into Paradise, and two of her featured songs which we already know and love (from Hayley's ODYSSEY) will be: -- Bachianas Brasileiras' Aria (Cantilena) -- Dido's Lament
I (personally) don't care for Dido's Lament, but I am greatly anticipating the opportunity to hear Sissel sing the vocalise Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5!
She is much older than Hayley, and has had much more formal voice training, so her voice is much more powerful. It shall be interesting to hear how she handles the Aria.

FABULOUS NEWS FOR SISSEL FANS... !!!!
Although the following information has not yet been "officially" publicised in the media news, I stumbled upon these little tidbits of information by scouring the Internet (thanks to GOOGLE) for various website articles alluding to SIssel's latest CD and an Autumn 2006 concert tour of the USA which may result from its release!
It now appears that a very small number of PBS television stations around the United States are currently promoting "Thank You" gifts related to upcoming Sissel concert tickets, in recognition for donations made to that station during their current March 2006 fund-raising membership campaign. Those stations involved have recently broadcast a concert video of "Into Paradise" which Sissel taped at the end of 2005, in Sweden.
At least four specific PBS television stations have, on their individual websites, announced "Thank You" gifts of 2 TICKETS to a live concert to be given by Sissel in a venue local to their viewing area, during the month of October, 2006. (They are urging would-be members to donate now, before these tickets go on sale to the general public.) Well... HERE ARE (at the very least) A LISTING OF FOUR "KNOWN" LIVE CONCERT APPEARANCES BY SISSEL, WHICH ARE CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE in OCTOBER, 2006:

Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 7:30 PM: Park West Theatre, 322 W. Armitage, Chicago, Illinois.
I trust that there shall be other cities and other dates, as the momentum grows!

Kimberly, Thanks for the link to "You Are Water." I listened to it, and I thought that it was somewhat interesting. But, sorry... this particular song just doesn't "do it" for me. I would truly much RATHER have Bachianas Brasileiras (Aria) on the North American CD than "You Are Water." Because of that... I shall be ordering not only the American CD, but also the UK version, as well. Actually, if the UK version were to have "I Say Grace" and "My Heart Belongs To You" on it (which it sadly doesn't), then I wouldn't be ordering the American version of the CD at all. I did some comparative track list analysis, and I discovered that (WITHOUT counting the Mummer's Dance on the Japanese version) Hayley's various versions of ODYSSEY -- International, UK, and USA -- total 19 unique tracks of music in all. Now, the UK version has 16 of those 19 tracks on it, and is missing 3 tracks which can be found on the USA version. Of the 16 tracks on the UK version, 9 of them appear on the USA version as well. Meanwhile, the USA version has 12 tracks on it, but it is missing 7 tracks which appear on the UK version. Of the 12 tracks found on the USA version, 9 of them are shared in common with the UK version. So, essentially, I am planning to purchase the USA version only to acquire the 3 tracks which the UK version lacks. My analysis concludes that (for me) it is **NOT** necessary to obtain the International version of ODYSSEY, because of all the 12 tracks which are found on the Australia/NZ album, 9 of them can likewise be found on BOTH the UK version and the USA version, another one of them (Aria) can also be found on the UK version, while 2 more of them can be found on the USA version. So, it seems, between the UK and USA albums, all 12 of the songs appearing on the International album are covered. I would likewise counsel British fans to purchase the CD from the UK, and to supplement it with the North American CD -- rather than with the International CD -- because, the two songs missing from the UK version are readily found on the American version, PLUS you get the additonal US track of "You Are Water" (which doesn't appear on any other edition of ODYSSEY.)
