As Hayley's appearances become surer, I will go for Stuttgart as well!

Westenra to join Il Divo tour

Christchurch teen diva Hayley Westenra is to open for operatic boy band Il Divo on a worldwide tour next year.

The 18-year-old singing star will tour with the group through the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom, performing about 50 concerts. The tour starts in February and will continue until the end of May.

The opening spot was hotly contested by a number of international artists and will give Westenra the chance to build on her already strong fan base in the US and Canada.

Pure, Westenra's fifth album and first international release sold more than two million copies worldwide, including 227,000 in America, and became the biggest selling New Zealand album with 175,000 copies sold.

Westenra plans to follow the Il Divo tour with her own headline tour of North America late in 2006.

Il Divo's latest album, Ancora, is the No. 1 album in the UK.

Gerald Westenra, the young singer's father, said she received a lot of emails from fans in the US and Canada asking when she would be touring there.

He said she was a fan of Il Divo and was looking forward to the opportunity of performing for large audiences around the world.

"She enjoys getting out there and singing in front of people. It's a little less stressful not being her own concert – she can have a bit of fun."

Westenra has performed with other big international operatic names, including blind Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in New Zealand last year. Her latest album Odyssey features a duet with Bocelli.

Westenra will perform the New Zealand national anthem at this weekend's All Blacks match against England at Twickenham, and plans to tour New Zealand in January.

There have been some changes - for instance, there are now two concerts in Rotterdam!

Also note the Scandinavian details, and visits to Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Spain. I don't think they have been reported before. And - if I can plan it in my personal schedule, I may be attending the Helsinki concert ... that depends on two factors - one is - my possible trip to Australia at about the same time. And the other .... well, I won't mention that as yet.

Thanks Gerrit... but apart from the US, these details cannot yet be confirmed - as far as Hayley is concerned.

Hayley's manager Steve did confirm in Shrewsbury yesterday that Hayley intends to undertake the ENTIRE Il Divo World Tour but some details (of dates, venues and the precise extent of Hayley's participation in individual concerts) have not yet been finalised.

There will also be a lot of promotional acttivity for Hayley during the Il Divo tour including the liklihood of some Odyssey re-launches/special editions. All this helps to explain (actually, it DOES explain ) the absence of promotional activity for Odyssey in the run up to Christmas this year. Next year, by the sound of it, will be quite an exciting time for Hayley and her fans. Watch this space!

I should like to add some observations here, about the North American concert tour of IL DIVO, featuring Hayley as the opening act.

Firstly, my husband and I get the Sunday edition of the New York Times every weekend, and I wanted to tell everybody that in last week's edition (Sunday, 4th December) the entertainment section of that newspaper had an IL DIVO ad in which it showed that the Friday evening show at Radio City Music Hall (10th February) is SOLD OUT!!! Only the Saturday show (11th February) at Radio City continues to have some seats available. So... Gerrit, maybe you should ADD the red-lettering SOLD OUT to the 10th February show listed for New York City!

Secondly, I recently perused the website of Toronto's Air Canada Centre, and on that venue's own website, they state that the IL DIVO show at Air Canada Centre (6th February) will feature Hayley Westenra as the opening act. So... although it may not yet have been "officially" announced by HayleyWestenra.COM that Hayley will be appearing in Toronto... it DOES seem that Air Canada Centre **IS** announcing that she shall be there! I cannot speak for the Bell Centre (in Montreal) or for the Fallsview Casino Resort Hotel (in Niagara Falls, Ontario) -- but, if I notice anything on those venue's websites, I will eventually come back here and report it!

I'm new to this forum but looking forward to taking part in the discussions.
I'm looking forward to April i'm very lucky as I've been able to get tickets for the extra date Il Divo has added to their visit to Glasgow. Will be a great show.

I have a query now.... i've been trrying for a while now to get onto hayleywestenra.com but it never opens... does anyone know if there is a problem with the site?

Hi Gerry and welcome to our little Hayley forum, I'm glad you found us and I look forward to reading your future posts! It's good to see that more Hayley fans (you!) are managing to get tickets to Il Divo concerts as the tickets for most venues did of course go on sale before the announcements were made on Hayley's official site. In fact, apart from the US, there still isn't an official announcement there!

There is no problem getting in to the official site www.hayleywestenra.com from my location at the moment - but we have found that the official forum is often VERY slow between about 4pm UK time and around 10pm, so the best time to try is outside those times. Good luck!

Susan, the information we have gleaned so far still indicates that Hayley is trying hard to take part in the entire Il Divo World Tour. The delay in announcing this officially may be because it's not proving easy to rearrange some prior commitments (we know there were some in Canada) but I'm sure this will be done if it's humanly possible. I took a chance and bought some tickets anyway, for London (England!) in April.

I think this is the time to provide a bit more information about the Il Divo/Hayley Helsinki concert on April 25.

I will be attending this concert, and so will Saara Aalto, a very good Finnish singer. In fact, it can be confirmed now that Saara will be at the concert as one of Hayley's guests.

Hello Gerry, and welcome to our forum!

I'm pleased to hear you will be seeing Hayley with Il Divo in Glasgow. I'm going to the concert at Wembley Arena on 12th April, along with Dave and Roger, but hopefully I'll get the chance to meet you eventually.

I don't have any problems accessing Hayley's official web site from London, but the official forum can be tediously slow in the late afternoon. It's usually fine in the morning, so I suspect it depends on the traffic on the server.

Actually, I don't understand UCJ/Decca's preference for yabb. I think they should discard this at the first available opportunity.

Hayley's official yabb forum is very slow at the times indicated - and Katherine's official forum is run by the same service - and, apart from being excruciatingly slow at peak hours, yabb is unstable as well. A number of artists (including Aled Jones and Katherine Jenkins) have had multiple crashes at their forums.

The only reason why UCJ/Decca seems to have chosen this yabb service is that it is both free (open source) and ad-free (unlike Proboards). But really, I fail to understand why a reputable record company should opt for such a free service. They should be prepared to opt for a paid service that is reliable. yabb does at this stage not meet those criteria.

I agree with you Gerrit. I think Decca should use Proboards. Proboards are stable. Also, they can purchase ad-free service from Proboards.
