Hi all, some days ago I sent an email to ARD (1.TV- Chanal) and ZDF (2.TV-Chanal) both wrote they will not transmit the opening event from the World Games. Also I'm not shure if I can go by train to Duisburg, but I try to do so. Regards, Lothar Hayley to sing at the 2005 World Games: 'Moreover, the programme of the opening ceremony permits an exciting bridging between the varieties of nations. The Argentine star tenor José Cura will perform alongside the New Zealand Newcomer Hayley Westenra. The German Top star Nena will be another highlight, giving a short performance in the MSV-Arena. Likewise, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra will have a “home match”, conducted by Jonathan Darlington, an Englishman who lives in Paris'.www.worldgames2005.de/en/news/news.php?id=635Emmett Hi folks, the above quote is from "Hayley's 2005 Schedule" thread and as the date approaches, I thought it would be helpful to start a separate thread. There is now more information about it on Hayley's official German website, which is here and translates in Google fairly well. It says the event will be broadcast on WDR TV starting at 22:00. It says that Hayley will sing Pokarekare Ana among other things; perhaps Lothar can tell us if the translation was correct? I wonder if anyone can receive WDR TV (Lothar, Gerrit?). I may be able to receive it by satellite, from England, but I won't know for sure until I can find time to check it, later tomorrow. Dave

Great news folks!!! German TV channel WDR have just announced - today Tuesday - that they will replace their 1 hour highlights show of the Opening Ceremony with Live Coverage starting at 20:15 CET (19:15 BST, am I right?). Here is the announcementand here are details of the performers - including Hayley It says: "...The mainstay of the show will be the performances by the artists Nena, José Cura, Hayley Westenra, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Benny Martell..." and " Hayley Westenra: An equally spellbinding artist is Hayley Westenra. “A Miracle“, “Incredible Star Qualities“ or simply “Like an Angel“ – these are the words the international press uses to describe the clear soft voice of the 18-year-old singing sensation from New Zealand who has already sold 1.5 million CDs all over the world. A star in New Zealand and Great Britain for a long time, she is now continuing her fabulous career on the European continent. The singer’s CD “Pure” covers a masterly range from classical to popular music and folk songs." But why am i getting so excited about it, you may well ask? Well, I've just had a play with one of my garden satellite dishes and the Sky receiver... and as I write this, I am watching "Lindbergh: The Spirit of St Louis" - in German - on... WDR TV ! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifSo, all being well, weather conditions permitting and if my PC doesn't crash I hope to be able to record Hayley's part in this event and digitise it. Wish me luck folks, I may need it! Lothar, you lucky man, I will look out for you on TV, in the crowd at the opening ceremony - and I look forward to reading your report afterwards!

Well, now, Dave, WDR is the logical station to broadcast this, as Duisburg is right at the heart of its broadcast area.
And my reception of it does not depend on the weather - although it will depend on power supply ....
So I will be recording it too - and hopefully have coverage up and running within 1 to 2 hours of its broadcast - depending on how much the contribution of Hayley is.
By the way, currently the WDR proogram listing hasn't updated. It still shows the highlights broadcast ....
By the way 2, on the official German site it says that the entire opening ceremony will be broadcast from 10 p.m., not just highlights ...
Cheers,
Gerrit

Cheers, Gerrit Hi Gerrit, I forgot about you (how could I !) although I did mention you a few days ago, above! So good, good... that will save me a job but I'll record it all anyway The only weather that will stop me is an overhead thunderstorm so that shouldn't be a problem... I hope! I saw that the WDR website said the whole ceremony would be broadcast but it's scheduled for 75 minutes, after the event, and I cannot believe that the entire opening ceremony will last only 75 minutes! I'd bet an old deutschmark that it was going to be highlights... and that would probably have meant losing some of Hayley's contribution. However, all's well that ends well and I'm sure the statement put out by WDR on Tuesday is the correct situation. Well I hope so! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers Dave

Hi all,
Just now I was calling WDR TV station in Cologne.
They say:
1. Hayley will perform at 22:21 and 22:27 CEST (time table of the TV drection)
2. They will take a dicision about live broadcast or only summery today in the afternoon. It could be that they will broadcast from 20:15 to xx:xx
3. If they will broadcast a summery only, so the Lady could not say, if Hayley is part of the summery, because it depends on the contract they made with the singer.
4. Today at the evening I will take a look at VIDEOTEXT of WDR what is the program time table - and I will give you a very latest information today at night.
I hope we could see Hayley live - cross fingers Gentleman.
cu Lothar

Hello All, On www.wdr.de/epg/sqlepg/f0714t.html (WDR programme listing for July 14th) it now says: 20:15 Eröffnungsfeier World Games 2005 in Duisburg - live (VPS 2200) (Opening Ceremony World Games in Duisburg - live) The program is scheduled to run until 22:30. Which simply means that hayley will participate during the last 10 minutes of the ceremony, if she is going to be on at 22:21 and 22:27. Here's hoping then that WDR won't say at 22:30, sorry folks, time to go. Usually such ceremonies run late ... and if in that case they cut the broadcast short, we may well miss out on Hayley altogether ... Cheers, Gerrit

Well, Hayley's first appearance has just been, at 20:21, rather than at 22.21 - and also completely unannounced. A greater pity was, that halfway the song the commentators started babbling along in German, which rather spoilt the performance. I'll await Hayley's second appearance, and then make one video out of it. By the way, they do show a banner of HayleyWestenra.de welcoming Hayley. Are you behind that banner, Lothar ? Also, one commentator explained to the public that Pokarekare Ana was the New Zealand anthem ... Hmmmm. Gerrit

Ok, Hayley's second appearance was a special one - singing "Imagine", together with Benny Martell and José Cura .... Stay tuned - hopefully video coverage will be on an hour from now! And after that, just half an hour to go before Katherine will be interviewed on This Week (BBC One). These girls sure keep me busy Cheers, Gerrit

Hi Gerrit and everyone! Well, wasn't she wonderful? Hayley more or less opened the entire ceremony, hers being the first song of the evening although it was immediately preceded by an excellent piece of drumming on the outfield. I thought Hayley sounded in superb voice as she sang the vocalise version of Pokarekare Ana, although there were a few sound balance problems at the start and as you say Gerrit, the commentators rather spoiled the end by talking over it. But at least they were talking about Hayley, so shall we forgive them? I noticed severe sound balance problems at times during some of the songs although thankfully, not much when Hayley sang. Then, at the end, it was great when Hayley closed the ceremony, in a trio with Benny Martell and Jose Cura. They sang... "Imagine" of course, and beautifully they did it too... followed by a fireworks display extraordinaire and the end of the show. I bet Hayley's never performed Imagine in public before! (Roger?) And yes, what about that massive Hayleywestenra.de flag draped over the balcony? What a BRILLIANT idea by Hayley's official German site, well done to them... or Lothar(!) Anyway, you'll see it all when Gerrit's finished digitising it all but what's this? Another hour Gerrit? Hmmm... OK then, as a taster, I'll put up a rough video I did from VHS TAPE (!) of the drummers (90 seconds) and Hayley singing Pokarekare Ana - but - as soon as Gerrit puts up his link for the real thing, I'll remove mine.. it's a bit rough in several places! Temporarily, it's here! (11 MB) but I'm sure Gerrit's (especially the sound) will be better - and longer! By the way Gerrit, you think you are busy? Well I'm not going to digitise Imagine, as you will get there first, but for me it's back to a 40 minute Charlotte Church TV appearance last week... I'm part way through extracting it from Keith's video tape and there's still a few hours work there, for tonight! Good luck with Katherine! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Cheers all

Ok, here's my offering. I must admit, I got caught out just by a few seconds at the beginning of Hayley's appearance (I was switching back and forth between WDR and a Dutch TV channel which also broadcast a programme I was interested in. So, in the final product, the first 10 seconds of Pokarekare Ana are missing - but I personally don't find that particularly disturbing. If you have downloaded Dave's video, you will notice indeed how suddenly Hayley appeared on stage. I thought of adding the missing part from Dave's video, but the sound are totally different. The entire video is 9:42, and just over 19 MB. Here is the direct link: www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/clips/zo05/worldgameswdr140705.wmvGerrit
