Marty played "the wonderful Hayley Westenra" singing Ave Maria at about five past eight this morning. He also mentioned the proposed ban on cigarette purchase by younger Kiwi's, great idea.

Lorcan Murray played Benedictus by Hayley Westenra at about 5:15. Lorcan's show has one of the highest listener numbers on RTE LyricFM

Apposite words from Marty there Comet. He's only saying what the rest of us are thinking. You asked once if Hayley had retired. I think Marty is wondering the same thing, lockdowns notwithstanding.

REPLAY HEREI first Liked your post Paul, then when I heard Marty's comments as alluded to by Jeff, I removed it as it isn't what any of us want to hear. But 5 minutes after that, he played the Act 2 Priest's Chorus/March from Aida, something I haven't listened to for years and now, I'm streaming the entire opera into my hifi from beginning to end (uncompressed) - it's good stuff! That's the problem with Like buttons, you don't always like everything. But on balance, on a 2 to 1 vote, I've put the 'Like' back!

So the like button is only available if you are logged in, there is only a thumbs up 👍 option, should there also be a thumbs down 👎 to make it more fair and democratic.
I think it would be fair to say Marty has a soft spot for Hayley and maybe LyricFM and the listeners have a soft spot for her too, of all the singers who performed with Celtic Women I think Hayley is the one most often played on RTE LyricFM and she from New Zealand

Is a thumbs down button really necessary? Is anyone's post these days really worthy of a thumbs down? There are so few posts lately, anyway. How about this, I'm going to hit like on the posts I do like, and the ones I don't, you'll have to assume I wasn't as thrilled with them. Sounds reasonable to me.

I could only see a 'Like' button option so I added that. Some social media sites or other forums have removed thumbs-down options anyway, presumably because it can and sometimes is used systematically against people - or by trolls. We used to have that on Youtube, one or two people would immediately hit the thumbs-down on every new Hayley video I uploaded, they probably didn't even watch the videos. But Youtube have now removed the thumbs-down option.
What does thumbs-up mean anyway? That you like the comment or opinion, like the news that was given, like one of several bits of the post (but what if you didn't like the rest?) or just wanted a quick way of saying "OK" in reply to a post directed at you? I guess it all depends on the context - and most posts will probably continue to have no Likes anyway, I'd imagine. So yeah, it's an imperfect system but we'll see how it goes.

Hi Dave, In Roman times a thumbs down meant slay him or off with his head. To day it means to show disapproval. a thumbs up meant allow him to live, probably made popular by the Ben Hur movie a while back all of them are just for the use of people who are just to lazy to type but I wouldn't be taking it too seriously one way or another
