Marty played Sumi Jo's version of the Ave Maria this morning but immediately after it he mentioned he also loved Hayley's version of it too and wondered aloud what is she doing lately as he hadn't heard a word from her in ages. ?
I wished I had an answer to his question.

Marty Whelan played Hayley Westenra's Ave Maria at 8:47am this morning at 8:44:19 today I was going to ask Marty to play something different by Hayley and then as if by telepathy, Marty reads out from some communication he has received "please play the Ave Maria that you played yesterday" Marty says "I'll play it just after nine o'clock" and at about 9:09 Hayley Westenra singing Ave Maria comes on the air. I am kind of glad I didn't email Marty, let democracy run its course, if the people want the Ave Maria let them have it. It is listed on the playlist as follows : Title: Ave Maria (Vladimir Vavilov, Formerly Attributed To Giulio Caccini) Composer: Caccini, Giulio Performer(s): Hayley Westenra (Soprano) Album: Odyssey Duration: 3:46 Playback of the whole programme which starts at 7 am and runs for three hours. so the time of the first mention is just after 1:44 on the playback timer. Marty is very complimentary about Hayley as usual. |

I heard Marty Whelan mention Hayley a couple of times during his early morning show and eventually he played Malena at about 9:05.

RTE Lyric FM's listener numbers seem to be rising dramatically during the virus lock down period.
There is only about five minutes per hour of news, compared with continuous bad news on some of the other talk show stations.

Marty played Hayley's Ave Maria this morning at about 9:10 on RTE Lyric FM without any pre play introduction.
While it was playing I wondered about those people out there who were hearing Hayley for the very first time at that very moment, not knowing who that striking voice is, waiting for the song to finish, waiting for a name to Google, that version of the Ave Maria is the kind of recording that makes people stop what they are doing and just listen.
RTE Lyric Fm have gained a lot of new listeners due to the Covid-19 pandemic,there is very little news on Lyric Fm.
a lot of the new listeners seem to be working from home and are leaving the radio on all day in the background.

Paige found this video back in 2017 but it got lost in a little thread of it's own. There's nothing quite like an irrelevant video title to make sure something gets lost and is never seen again. It's an RTE broadcast from 2006 posted on YouTube in 2017 Hayley Westenra sings O mio babino caro and after the interview she sings She moved through the fair. with only 1,932 views when it is being posted here, now ,,, today, you know what I mean.  |
