Taylor, I actually got a notice in my e-mail about your posting in the HW official FB page (the old one), saying "new greatest hits album", and I was like "Oh no!!" I thought it was going to be another River of Dreams. I was ready to write Hayley's career off... LOL Thank goodness it's just Japan. You don't know how relieved I am!! Seems a bit drastic... but ok. I do echo your sentiment about Hayley getting new stuff, as in NEW new stuff, out into the world. We need some that has Hayley basically written all over it. Perhaps in the songwriters credits? -Taylor Actually fair enough Libby. If this was a western Decca greatest hits it would be extremely concerning. In that situation it would be only a means to quickly wrap up their contractual obligations before ending Hayley's record deal. But thankfully that is not the case. Universal Japan on the other hand, seem to like churning out the greatest hits compilations like there's no tomorrow! :rollin I think the reason the last lot if Japanese songs sounded sugary was that the instrumentals were all synthesised and washed blandly around in the background of the songs. The vocals had a lot of potential though. The fact that they are even re-recording one of the tracks from the Best of Japanese Songs shows that there's going to be more effort put in this time. I know we want proper new stuff, but we were never going to get that until late this year/early next year anyway. As this is just a Universal Japan side project, it is unlikely to delay the real album or adversely impact on Hayley's wider reputation and prospects. As such, I see it as a bit of harmless amusement to see us through the beginning of 2014. Sure, the new songs may not demonstrate any creative advances and may feel like 'treading water' artistically. However, I think I will find some new recordings with Hayley's proper, full singing voice to be quite reassuring. Remind me that it's still there.

Maybe it was drastic, but you know where I'm coming from, right? What kind of career can someone have by putting out a bunch of greatest hits albums... even in Japan, if it comes down to it. Pretty soon everything she's done would be on it. But thankfully, my fears did not turn out to be true. So, not to worry about that anymore. I'm still not sure about spending a fortune for only a few new songs, but I'll wait and see what the songs sound like.

Pretty soon everything she's done would be on it. Well, Hayley has released 7 original albums in Japan and has released 6 greatest hits compilations. (Including this one ) So close! Actually, no wait.... River of Dreams would have been released too -- which makes it dead even at 7 greatest hits to 7 original albums.

7 original albums? What do you mean by "original"?

7 original albums? What do you mean by "original"? Pure, Odyssey, Treasure, Paradiso, HSJS, HSJS2, Hushabye. Oops I forgot Winter Magic - make that 8 albums! I meant albums that weren't compilations.

But since she's already done RoD, which had songs from her first 3 albums, as of now, all she could do on a best of would add Paradiso and Hushabye songs (and I'm not sure anything on that would be among her "best" songs, especially since the album never even sold that well). But never mind, it's not happening, so there's no sense in worrying about it right now.

Hi everyone This does look interesting and worth getting I think for the new songs, however I would be hesitant to order from CD Japan after last time where I was charged so much by royal mail. Susie Susie, that was nothing to do with CDJapan. It has to do with our customs. Blame where it is due, and yes, sometimes you get away with it, sometimes the state robs you. I blame the government who are totally inhuman when it comes to extracting taxes from their subjects. If they can rip you off they will. The only way we can protest is by not voting. If enough of us refuse to vote, it will be embarrassing (but even then they will brazen it out - a government with the support of 5% of the people will still govern, until the revolution). Martin D

Martin D Hi Martin and Susie I think the most unfair part of it is the £8 "handling fee", charged by Royal mail. On cd's this will be a lot more than the tax/import duty. I expect this will increase with the recent privitisation! Tony

Hi all, I'll just quote this post I made a while back about how to purchase legally off Itunes Japan. I did this to purchase BOTW because I didn't want to buy the import of Hushabye. All I did was purchase a Japanese Itunes gift card and set up an account using a fresh email address and using a postal address and phone number from a Japanese university - which I found on google. Easy peasy. It would be a good idea for members who only want to buy a couple of the new songs.

What a shame to read about, the VAT or TAX from the royal mail in the UK. Just as a matter of interest....a question to our UK members....Will purchases from Ebay..also be charged with VAT or extra costs. A possible way to get this album...is to buy it on Ebay....i remember...my latest Japanese album was purchased from Yes Asia...and if i'm well, it was the same price as Cd Japan.

Yes, I've ordered from YesAsia before, and their shipping is a little slow, but their CDs are packaged VERY well. I swear, I had at least 2 cubic feet of bubble wrap after opening everything up! -Taylor

I do not recommend this, because eventually they'll find out the address does not match the credit card used. So, just remember that you will most likely never be able to purchase anything from them using that credit card ever again. At least that's what happened to me when someone suggested to me that I do that to get World in Union songs. I later tried to make a purchase at Play.com, but by then, they'd gotten wise to me. I would never feel comfortable doing that again. Even though you are paying for it, it just doesn't seem like a very honest way to do it. I think it's dumb, though, that they can't let people from other countries download music from them, but it is what it is.

Hi Libby,
I didn't use a credit card. I purchased a gift card from a separate website. There are plenty on eBay too. So no credit cards.
Personally, I think that in this digital world the geographical restrictions are a bit ridiculous.
But ITunes loves it because it means that they can charge different prices in different countries. For example songs are more expensive in Australia than they are in the US.
