It's almost time for another KITC FM CC Show!! Those who are still with me, head over soon and post your requests! We're back to normal music this week!!They already have the US edition of Pure, "On My Heart" (Mike Oldfield - Music of the Spheres), Odyssey US iTunes Bonus Track EP ( "Laudate Dominum", "O Mio Babbino Caro", and "Dido's Lament"), and "E Pari Ra" (Bonus track on iTunesUS Celtic Treasure) but don't limit yourself to just those!! Personally, I'd like them to get the rest of the Odyssey and Celtic Treasure albums soon! (Those last four songs mentioned are not available on the US version of those albums. They'll most likely buy the US release themselves, so I sent the odd ones. Thank God for iTunes!! ) Also, to complete the above list and for quick reference to those who may need it, The US tracklist for Pure: "Pokarekare Ana", "Never Say Goodbye", "Who Painted the Moon Black?", "River of Dreams", "Beat of Your Heart", "Amazing Grace", "Benedictus", "Hine E Hine", "Across the Universe of Time", "Dark Waltz", "In Trutina", "Heaven", "Wuthering Heights" I'm listening to it again, Taylor!! You noticed it before I did! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI actually really like that first Jackie song, "Ding Dong Merrily On High". She does a really nice version. The High light of the show, for me, was Hayley (of course), Sarah and Josh!!!

I didn't think "Westenra" was that difficult to pronounce. Just say it like it looks, folks. Heaven knows we do that with everything else.

I used to pronounce it wrong too. Then there are those who insist upon leaving out the first Y in Hayley's name. Even when they're informed of the correct spelling. Her name is on the front of her CD's, and right at the top of these forums, so it's a matter of carelessness, for the most part. Sometimes typos, but most of the time, not.

Oh, what Josh song did they play? Hi Libby - The Josh song that they played was "Little Drummer Boy". It was the 7th song, 30 minutes in from the beginning. If you click on the blue in either reply #61 or #62 of this thread, you will be able to hear it. I get a small Windows Media box when I do so which I have to enlarge in order to see the timer. The only trouble I find is that it is very slow loading, and you can only slide the timer ahead a little every few seconds. Happy hunting, BobS

Even the Kiwis get it wrong,
There is an old video somewhere (One of Belinda's or one Belinda made available to us) where Hayley is on stage in New Zealand and she wins a competition and the MC after several attempts, has to get Hayley to pronounce her own family name.
Hayley seems to pronounce it Wis-tin-ra with a very short, snappy ra.
It's not often you will hear her saying her own name.

She says her name all the time. Well, there was a video a few months ago, where she mentioned her upcoming Denmark concert and the Beijing Fillm festival. She was wearing a long-sleeved gray top with stripes on it I think. And she most certainly did introduce herself. And on the Live DVD, she did, too. When I used to pronounce her name wrong, it was before I had ever heard her speak. I only got the DVD in 2007, and that was the first year I ever entered the Hayley forums. So at first I was not a very well-versed Hayley fan. Not so anymore!

Yeah, I've never gotten why Hayley's last name is to difficult to pronounce (although I, myself, am a culprit ). I think somehow people get the N's & R's mixed up. Maybe because they look similar? Idk, but my dad always puts the accent on the wrong syllable. It comes out "WestENra," not "WESTenra". Family. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hello folks! Another name that most people say wrongly is Vittorio Grig olo. I've underlined the correct syllable where the stress should be. Richard

Yes, the rule in English is that the stress goes on the antepenultimate syllable, but there are exceptions it seems. Then differences of opinion like the controversy over controversy.
I have no idea what the rules are in Italian. Or Dutch, where I understand the namw Westenra comes from.
In French all syllables have equal stress.

How would I have known, since I had never heard anyone say it before? And Martin, what in the world are antepenultimate syllables?

It seems to be about putting the acCent on the wrong sylLABle.
I agree Libby. I have mentally pronounced Hayley's name the way Bamafan and you do. As long as I am thinking her name to myself it shall remain that way because it flows nicely around my mind.
