She was actually on Live with Kelly TWICE, with Mark Ballas. Once a few weeks before the finale, and then again a few days after the finale, along with the 3rd runners-up. I don't think she sang on the show, but Kelly Ripa did say, the first time, that she has an amazing voice, or something of that sort. So, yeah, this is definitely getting people to at least TRY her music. Yup, It''s not a question of "whether or not her DWTS appearance will provide a big career boost or not" - THAT has ALREADY happened. I mean, consider the following - previously was Katherine EVER invited to perform in 10,000+ seat venues here in the US? The answer to that question is a great big "NO". Now - after DWTS - she's already scheduled to perform EIGHT such shows (2 with the MTC and 6 with Andrea Bocelli) PLUS she's already scheduled at least one concert of her own which seats nearly ten-times what her typical concert seated during her previous US tour. So yeah, there has ALREADY been a major boost to her career. The ONLY remaining question is - will it LAST? I think the answer to that is "yes" as well. Ken

Just as an FYI of the effect DWTS has already had on Katherine's album sales, here's a "snapshot" I took of the Amazon.com Classical album charts during her DWTS appearance (this is a post I made on her website fan club message board) on May 23rd:
"A while back I created a thread on Katherine's album sales on Amazon.com. Here's the final snapshot (remember that most of these album were not even in the top 100 on Amazon before Katherine's 1st DWTS appearance):
Under the Classical category Katherine has the -
#1 album (Ultimate Collection)
#2 album (Believe Platinum Collection)
#4 album (One Fine Day)
#6 album (Daydream)
#8 album (Sweetest Love)
#16 album (Sacred Arias)
#35 album (Believe)
#53 album (Rejoice)
#57 album (Second Nature)
#71 album (Living A Dream)
Pretty darned good, I'd say."
Now, keep in mind that Amazon sales are a small number compared to the overall Billboard sales figures so on Billboard she still barely made it on the charts. However, you also have to remember that this boost in her album sales was still pretty significant when compared to what she HAD been selling AND took place without many folks even seeing her sing (it was JUST due to general increased interest in her).
Another measure of the increase in interest in Katherine was the fact that at one point in the show Katherine was (for one evening - and into the following morning) the NUMBER ONE Google search topic in the US (and there were a few other times during the show when she was up to as high as #4).

Yes, and good luck to her. Is it possible in America to be a superstar without being a celebrity? I know Katherine will take both, but Hayley is exactly that. And perhaps that is what she prefers.

Martin D Umm, yeah. Have you ever heard of Josh Groban? I must have said this hundreds of times by now, but Josh Groban is almost never in the US tabloids, yet he sells out arenas in the US and all over the world, had an album that was the best-selling album of the year in 2007 in the US (Noel), and was also named the #1 best-selling artist in the US in 2007. Yes, out of ALL artists. Does that not sound like a superstar to you?
And how many times have I said that Hayley does not need to reach superstar status in order to tour here more often? Martin, we go through this about every few months.

Another thing that's driving interest in Katherine Jenkins is America's current fascination with British singers, especially Adele who's clobbered everyone in sight this year. Is KJ's riding her coattails now that we're so receptive to all things British? Maybe. British women are getting a lot of airplay in the States lately with Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Natasha Bedingfield on heavy rotation behind the unstoppable Adele. It makes perfect sense to launch Katherine now.

Natasha's been around for a little while now. Never heard Jessie J that I'm aware of, although I've heard her name. There's Leona Lewis, too. Are "all things British" really that much more popular than ever? I mean, ever since Simon Cowell and American Idol, there seems to have been an obsession with British judges and/or hosts/announcers on reality or game shows. There's a Brit on AGT, there's 2 on SYTCD, one on DWTS, at least one on X Factor, the executive producer of AI is a Brit, I'm even thinking the announcer on DWTS might be British, you know when they announce the couples right before they dance? Brits are all over TV, so Katherine's nationality is nothing new to us. I do think maybe there's still the fascination of the accent and all that, so MAYBE that's helping her. I personally don't think that's the "driving interest" though. If I had to guess what is, I'd say it's the mere fact that she was virtually unknown, yet she was invited on the show, and did very well, anyway. That is probably what got people to check her out. I'm also under the impression that Mark Ballas is a very popular dancing partner on the show, so that definitely helped her. I'm glad she didn't get Maksim, although I think he's popular too. Did anyone see the way he kept smooching all over Melissa Gilbert during the judges' remarks? Eeew.

It is for certain that Katherine has beome the interest of many new people for having achieved a successful performance on DWTS. It hasn't hurt her growing popularity by having and maintaining a strong relationship with Jackie Evancho. Jackie encouraged many of her fans to support Katherine on DWTS and I believe Jackie's fan base has adopted Katherine. Jackie is becoming very well connected with influential people and if those connections can include Katherine then things will work well for her. If Katherine could build a strong tie to people like David Foster then many doors will open for her.

I think he did it just before he did DWM with Jackie. While a good album it still didn't quite do it for Katherine here in the US. NOW however, since she's become more known, I suspect her next album (which she's ALREADY started recording - busy busy lady Katherine is) will probably do quite a bit better. Ken

Now that Katherine has become known in America for ballroom dancing, she might need to retain some dance moves and incorporate them into her act. That will click well with audiences who know her mainly for DWTS. Then she stands to be the singer who can do it all.
I met KJ in 2004 and had my picture taken with her. It's somewhere online but I have no idea where! If anyone sees it let me know.

Regarding Katherine & dancing - she's said she'd like to do musical theatre and I'm sure if she really wants to she'll be able to - assume she can find the time. Ken

Haha, can't you just do a search on google for Katherine Jenkins and Steve MacDonald? I did see a picture of you once... with a bunch of your co-psychics, if I remember right. Right?
