Katherine actually did a UK tour called Viva la Diva. IIRC she danced professionally as well as sang. It involved ballerina Darcy Bussell, who had to sing whilst Katherine danced. I'm not surprised she is doing so well. And no, I don't think she should be disqualified. Good luck to her. She is clearly multi-talented. Martin D Not only did they do a tour they released a DVD of the same name. You can see an advert for it here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAS-45Egim8I agree with Martin D she should not be disqualified. The dancing in the DVD is similar to that in DWTS in that Katherine had to learn a number of set routines rather than a whole genre of dance.

Oh Steve, how about Shawn Johnson? I forgot what year she was on... 2009? Anyway, lady gymnasts also have to do floor routines, which involves some artistic interpretation, dull as it is compared to skating or ballroom dancing (IMO). Clearly, the producers don't require you to never have danced a step in your life. I mean, what are they going to do, ban people who've danced at their proms? LOL Anyway, the dancing on this show is a lot simpler than "real life" ballroom dancing. If you've ever watched the So You Think You Can Dance show on Fox (similar format to American Idol), you would know. The dancing on that show is so much more difficult and exciting than the dances on DWTS. True, they're all real dancers, but they're not all experienced in every dance category, ballroom in particular. For the most part, they're contemporary dancers, with a few hip-hop, jazz, and ballroom dancers. Very few experienced ballroom dancers. Steve, stop worrying about it. Hayley is not likely to dance on the show anytime soon, and it's not because she used to dance ballet as a kid. I seriously don't think Hayley would want to anytime soon, and if she ever does want to, it'll probably be the NZ or UK version. But, you can keep the dream of Hayley singing on the show alive, if you want, because there's a chance someone might read my letter, and also, if they keep up the classical week every season, you'd think they would have to settle on Hayley eventually! Especially if they keep getting letters from some crazy Hayley fan every season!! Oh yes, that's the plan! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Now that's the type of singing that will win KJ new American fans. It's not all soprano-operatic like most of her songs which makes it more accessible and enjoyable.

Yes, tapping ito the popularity of Celtic music/CW in the US too. Her people have their heads screwed on. Good luck to her!

I heard it, and I actually thought she sounded nice. Normally, I don't enjoy her tone very much. However, I enjoy Orla's version much better. Her tone is nicer, not so deep and breathy, and much more emotional. She also sings more lyrics. KJ kept singing "the sea is wide", while Orla only sings that part the first time around; she uses different lyrics, and I like it much better that way. One of the lines she sings says something like "I spend my days... " (like "the sea is wide..." ). I'll have to check the lyric book from her CD.
However, I do think that song was a good choice for her. Much more pleasant than her O Mio Babbino Caro was last year.

re: KJ Anna (Jack Wagner's pro partner) is very impressed is KJ. She has made great comments about KJ's beautiful feet position, her lines and form. This is coming from a highly successful pro Russian dancer. source: afterbuzztvdcom
Would love to see Hayley do something like this. I know she is a singer, but so is KJ. Very few people in the USA knew of KJ a month a go. Now they do. They like her. Not for her beauty (lots of beautiful people - beauty alone is boring), but because of her charm. They found about her via DWTS, but now, know about her singing. Her albums sales have taken off her in the USA market.
Don't know how Hayley would do dancing on this show. It's lots of hard work and lots of pain involved. The pro dancers always say, the athletes make the best dancers because they don't complain about the long practice hours and pain. It's the actors and singer's and non-athlete celebrity that do the complaining as they are not accustomed to the pain and long hours of physical practice. Athletes are used to being in pain, so they just push through it. I'm a x-competative hockey player. Always in pain, but you do what you love.
A show like this would really be good for Haley as a contestant or a guest performer. Hayley, like KJ is not known in the USA. Classical-crossover genre was pretty nonexistence in the USA until a 10 hear old came along. Would love to see more of Hayley in the USA. Even if it's small venues. Just want her to keep trying and trying and trying. The USA market is a big market. Last year people wrote the show to have Jackie perform. Tom B., the host actually answered a tweet, last year acknowledging Jackie. He said it was not his decision, but he liked her. Hayley fans, do what Jackie fans did. Yes, Jackie is from the USA and better known than Hayley in this market. On the flip side Hayley, is better known internationally than Jackie, but Jackie still gets gigs around the world, although limited due too her young age. If Hayley wants to break into the US market she must keep trying again, again, again, again, again. Never give up!

Katherine's dancing on DWTS and her new found popularity with the American public can only help the possibility of other European guest being brought on like shows. Also the dancing Hayley has done in the past WOULD NOT disqualify her. Actual they can put on anyone they want. Let's face it their main criteria is who would the public like to see.

Hi DJ, If you mean that her sales have taken off, I've seen other people say this recently but on a quick check of the Billboard album charts, I can't see any of Katherine's albums in there. I could have missed it, of course. Good luck to her in the dancing though! Cheers, Dave

...Classical-crossover genre was pretty nonexistence in the USA until a 10 hear old came along. ... That's how it appears now, but right before Jackie was born the USA embraced a 13-year-old singing sensation from Cardiff who sang a similar repertoire, and a decade before that Sarah Brightman was very successful stateside. These things go in waves.... another 10 years we'll find someone new.

I think this was my second least favorite dance by KJ this year. The first was the rock paso doble. She did a good job, but it was just boring. And I notice that these music themes are sometimes at odds with the dance styles. You know, like, since when does someone do a samba do Mo-town music? A little weird. Sure, pop songs are used for latin dances a lot, but I don't know, Mo-town is just weird for that. Even a rumba to that music was a strange idea to me. No latin beat! That's why I really prefer So You Think You Can Dance. I'm only watching for Katherine, even though I don't even listen to her music. Hayley fans, do what Jackie fans did. ... must keep trying again, again, again, again, again. Never give up! I have, except I wrote a letter to the studio (the address was actually to get an autograph from one of the stars, though!). I'll try tweeting the DWTS people, too, that's a good idea. But you know, most celebrities hardly ever reply to anyone, I've noticed. Or they do, but it does seem you're pretty hard-pressed to get an answer. Doesn't hurt to try I guess. I'm not expecting a response to my letter, either. If anything, I might get an autograph from Maks or Katherine, since I mentioned both in the letter! Not that I would really care.

dj,
Just can't imagine Hayley doing that! For one thing she admits she isn't an athlete. For another, I cant imagine her wearing a dress like the ones Katherine has worn. And thirdly, she is much more interested in China, it seems than the USA. After all, China is potentially an even bigger market, and one where she might have greater popular appeal. And one that would still allow her to walk the streets of London, Paris, New York etc. unrecognised.

I'll say it again, hopefully for the last time. Hayley is far more likely to be on a UK or NZ version of the show, not the US, and most likely not till she's older. But I agree with Martin, I would not be thrilled about the idea of seeing in her those skimpy outfits. Sure, she's attractive, but it wouldn't feel right to me seeing her bare so much of her flesh! That doesn't seem like anything Hayley would feel comfortable doing, either. If she was, she might have taken her company up on their challenge to dress like a "tart". She might have even decided to go the pop route like Decca US seemed to want her to do, or so it sounded like it in one interview she did.

For those still following the actual DWTS competition: Katherine could be sent home any day now. Her last performance wasn't that good and the other dancers are improving rapidly. Even though she has great chemistry with her dance partner, they seem to stumble more and more. What happened?
