Yeah, that editing is weird...but I'm surprised she's still singing, and he's singing whatever's being played too, but the second before, she had her mic close XD so weird...
alarminglady: Thanks for sharing that link! Amazing performance, Rhydian's performance was really moving indeed!

I was just reading the comments on YouTube, and somebody has pointed out that there is a peculiar edit during the duet at about 1:45. Watch Hayley's microphone closely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=30cDBKCrl-IRichard Hi Richard, Yes indeed, you (well the Youtuber) are right about that - it occurred on the original broadcast and as I have two separate recordings of it, on separate devices, I was able to check. I presume that it also occurs on the S4C online "catch-up" recording but I haven't checked. I'm kind of glad that I didn't notice it before I uploaded it, because if I did, I would have been tempted to try and disguise it somehow and that might have kept me up for hours! Alarminglady, many thanks for your comments and explanation, it all makes a lot more sense now. Cheers, Dave

Hayley's performances were wonderful, and I really liked the duet! However, at the end there's another editing mistake at 4:14 - this time you can clearly see that Rhydian is not singing into the mic even though you can HEAR him sing. Perhaps I'm too finical, it's really not that important (yet still quite interesting)...

It may help if you know that Rhydian wasn't happy with the shower of sparks and they sang the song for a second time with the sparks nearer to the end of the song. After the second rendition Hayley then commented that she couldn't hear herself as Rhydian had been rather loud.
So at a guess the televised performance was spliced from the two takes and the sound may have been mixed to tone Rhyd down on the second version.

In my defense, I wasn't saying I don't like Rhydian as a person, or that Hayley shouldn't be friends with him. That is ridiculous. I was critiquing his actual singing performance. Also, I DID say that he has a good voice. I just like other singers better. I don't know why you think what I said was so horrible! It wasn't! You wish I could see his emotion, and so do I, but it just didn't show up that much. Hayley's showed up a lot more, let's put it that way. I'm not saying he didn't feel the emotion of the song; maybe he was concentrating on the Italian lyrics. But the fact is I didn't see the emotion, and I'm not a bad person for saying so, or because I prefer Andrea Bocelli singing it. Another thing, you're making it sound like I think he's never emotional in his performances. But I was only referring to this one. And I wasn't just talking about the emotion, I also said his voice is kind of hard compared to Bocelli's. I like gentler tones. Is that a bad thing? I do recall saying about the last duet with Hayley that he has a commanding voice, and I certainly meant that as a compliment. I may have been guilty of negative comments back then, too, but that was when everyone was so sure he was Hayley's boyfriend, but I was sure he wasn't . Who was right? Of course it was okay the time someone here called Josh Groban's voice a "foghorn". That's okay, of course, even though it's a lot ruder.

Okay, so that's understandable, but it didn't seem to bother Hayley that much. She's always been known to handle situations like that very well.

I agree, they were spliced together - there were two showers of sparks but I bet there was only one in each of the two takes! It seems that also, they sung the two takes slightly differently, with one or the other coming in at slightly different points in the song, so they couldn't splice the two halves accurately. I (and the production company) could have fixed it by inserting 2 second "distant shots" in the offending places but the only suitable scenes were the wrong colour, the lighting changed from red to blue each time the sparks fell, and Rhydian's walk towards Hayley was a problem too. So I was beaten, and so, surprisingly (with their extra camera footage), were they! TV bloopers, but still a very enjoyable recording. Cheers, Dave

And this has got nothing to do with Hayley's friendship, because we didn't insult Rhydian as a person or anything, nor did we insult him at all. The comments made were at a superficial level, talking merely about the performance, and how they liked the previous one better. Nothing to be offended of Thank you, Simba, you hit the nail on the head. I appreciate it. On watching it again, I see he closes his eyes a few times, and even puts his hand to his chest, so I guess he did a little better in that respect than I originally thought. And as I've said, I do think he has a good voice; again, I thought he sounded "commanding", in the duet they did a few years ago. So I never said he wasn't a good singer. And by saying I'm not a "big" fan doesn't mean I completely dislike him.

You are so lucky to be there for the actual recording alarminglady! Poor Rhydian, vocal bleed and had to do that, I hope he's all better now? And thank you Dave, your upload was top quality. I have never gotten good sounds from S4C on Youtube before.

Can't say I'm a major Rhydian fan, either (So you're not alone, Libby! Rhydian is good, sure, but he's no Nathan Gunn), but I did enjoy the duet he did with Hayley, here. She, of course, was superb as usual. I do think Hayley's singing of Whispers In A Dream on Rhydian's show was the best I've heard her sing it live, though it's hard to be THAT certain as it's a great song with a greater singer.

Yes, Elliot. You also expressed what I was trying to say: Rhydian is a good singer, and he sounded good with Hayley, but it doesn't mean I'm crazy about him otherwise. It is possible to recognize and appreciate someone's talent without being their biggest fan. There are already male singers similar to Rhydian that I just happen to like better. I can't like them all. I listen to the ones I like best.

Completely agree there, Libby. There are plenty of talented people out there whose abilities I can see and admire without ever really being a fan or feeling that their voice/music speaks to me.
Rhydian, for me, is in that category. Nothing against him or his fans. I would love to be able to sing even half as well as he can. But he just doesn't move me in the same way as Mario Lanza or Nathan Gunn can.
