It would be nice if for once when Hayley duets with Rhydian, that her fans do not get so negative about him. Hello birdofparadise and welcome to the forum! I think you are too harsh, in picking out remarks by one or two people when the others (including mine) were complimentary about his voice. You will often get some people on another singers' forum who aren't keen on his or her voice/personality or whatever, and perhaps there are some on the Rhydian forum who aren't keen on Hayley (though I can't check as it seems to be locked against non-members)? I said: "it is very, very good - quite close to Hayley's original with Andrea Bocelli. Rhydian is a very good singer and made a first class duet partner for Hayley." but I don't expect everyone necessarily to agree, and there is an inevitable comparison of this performance with the legendary Andrea Bocelli's performance with Hayley. Rhydian would have known this, and the inevitable comparison that would be made by Hayley (and Andrea) fans, when he suggested doing the duet. He did a great job though! Is it just me, or the recording could have used more reverb? Sounded quite raw... Hi Simba, my job is as I see it to to try and reproduce Hayley's TV performances as closely as possible to the original broadcast and usually, that's what I do (within the constraints of codecs/file sizes/Internet bandwidth etc.). So that's what I do, however, in this case I know people will inevitably compare Vivo Per Lei with the Bocelli duet - and on that, the original broadcast had massive amounts of added reverb, so anything else may sound flat by comparison. The Rhydian duet sounds fine to me, when played through my main TV set/system speakers as it gains from the room acoustics and that's how the broadcast would have been balanced - but playing it through computer speakers or headphones might not produce the same effect. However, knowing of the Bocelli version, I did add some subtle reverb to my original recording - though nowhere near as much as the Bocelli duet. If I'd gone much further, I might have had people complaining about it! I'm happy to discuss technical issues like this (and future policy) if you or anyone would like to, so if you do, please start a suitable thread in Technical Support. Most members will soon get tired of "tech talk" in the main part of the forum! Cheers, Dave

Hi you guys, thanks to those of you who have put up their vids of Hayley & Rhydian. I absolutely loved Hayley's performance and the duet with Rhydian.
Not trying to get into any arguments here but I have to agree to some extent with what Birdofparadise has said regarding some negative comments on Rhydian. There have been one or two comments at times from Hayley fans regarding their dislike of Rhydian. I am well aware that everyone has the right to an opinion but I do find it sad simply because Hayley and Rhydian are very good friends and I am pretty sure that Hayley would find that sort of thing rather distateful. I guess I have always been brought up to believe that if you haven't anything nice to say about someone then don't say it!!!! I can confirm that I have never read any negative comments regarding Hayley on Rhydian's forum, in fact any comments made have always been very positive when she has appeared/sung with Rhydian.

Oh no Dave, I was talking about the original recording (the tv broadcast) not that you didn't add or didn't do something XD... Maggie: No one's being ungrateful or anything here, it's just the fact that there has been another performance of this before with a different partner, that it's very 'natural' to make comparisons, and when that happens obviously some will like any one better. And this has got nothing to do with Hayley's friendship, because we didn't insult Rhydian as a person or anything, nor did we insult him at all. The comments made were at a superficial level, talking merely about the performance, and how they liked the previous one better. Nothing to be offended of

Couldn't understand a word of most of it (it is a Welsh language TV station) but Rhydian did do a short interview with Hayley in English. Hi Martin, I watch a fair amount of Rugby on this channel and they either have two commentaries in parallel; on the 'red button' ... English or Welsh. ...OR.... Welsh language and English subtitles. This program had the English subtitles available so I was able to follow it all......Except for the Italian that the was in Italian !! Graham

However critical an appraisal, it should always be phrased constructively and qualified with the poster's viewpoint/background, so we can read the comments in context. Peter S.

Hi everyone! I love Rhydian! I hope that he and Hayley recreate their performance of All I Ask of You one day. Loved that so so much. Or maybe it was one of those 'one of a kind things'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt3mp08M6EwI have Rhydian's album O Fortuna and I love it - especially Annie's Song.

Thanks for the uploads Dave. Much better quality than I get from the internet feed.
And as for Rhydian, yes I like him too. And Hayley performs well with him, there is clearly some chemistry there, which all adds to the performance. I agree though that Bocelli is incredible, perhaps not a fair comparison.
And Libby, Rhydian's delivery is part of his personality. We English admire a "stiff upper lip". And Nicola on her site gives Rhydian 5 stars for interpretation, Hayley only gets 3! Personally I'd put it the other way round these days. She has improved her interpretation a lot in recent years.
I did see Hayley perform live with Rhydian once - at the Birmingham Symphony Hall last December, when I'm told Rhydian had voice problems and was not at his best. I think this was a better performance - from both singers. And as I said earlier, I thought the whole show was a delight - if I can I'll watch the others in the series too.

Many thanks for uploading the videos, Dave! Hayley's solos were superb, but I particularly enjoyed the duet with Rhydian. That was out of this world. Best wishes, Richard

Hello! Visiting Rhydian fan here i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI have seen Rhydian live more times than I care to admit to and Hayley a number of times. Both are exceptionally talented imo. Poor old Rhyd, although I do have some sympathy with the view of the Hayley fan who found Rhydian in Vivo Per Lei a little wanting, shall we say. I don't want to make excuses for him because we all like or don't like different voices, songs and renditions and it is all completely subjective after all. However, that night of Hayley's visit to be on his show was in fact the very first night of recording. Rhydian had another big name guest as well (to be shown on another episode) and he had been having to sing in rehearsal for nearly 12 hours a day in the lead up to the beginning of the series. He was under specialists as he had a bleed on his vocal chords which can be very serious and was preventing him doing any singing in the lead up to the recordings which had had to be cancelled once. The temperature in the building was 110 degrees - how they managed an entire day beats me, I was wilting sitting still in the audeince for three! The pressure of it being his first ever show, he is a newcomer to TV presenting, doing it in a language which is not his first language, big names on the show and a below par voice meant Rhydian was very tense and I can see how that translates on the show as I have the usual Rhyd to compare it with. Anyway, I came by really to say a big thank you to Dave for the upload of Vivo Per Lei, the quality is fabulous!! If anyone does want to hear Rhydian when his voice is on song and he gets emotional, you could try watching this Apologies for my poor camera skills though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mmYPC_r0Eo

Hello folks! I was just reading the comments on YouTube, and somebody has pointed out that there is a peculiar edit during the duet at about 1:45. Watch Hayley's microphone closely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=30cDBKCrl-IRichard

A very useful background info alarminglady. You highlight important points that need to be borne in mind more obviously than we generally do. 'Off nights' for what ever reason are far more common than we may realise and I think we need to bear that in mind when we presume in our (mostly I would suggest) amateur fashion to criticise a perceived 'below par' performance. They are still there and they are good enough to earn a living at it. Think of the ease with which sick notes flurry through ordinary office workers the moment things get tricky. Artists of this calibre simply plough on.
