I've got the DVD, but I can't watch it unless I'm wearing a lifejacket!  Richard  Didn't know the DVD was available. Thanks for the info. I thought it was about to be broadcast and I was put out by the fact it was on one of the narrow channels rather than mainstream. Hopefully it will repeat soon on a publicly populated channel Peter S. It was on ITV1 early last year over the course of 2 nights |

For Hayley fans in NZ, TV2 Wed Nov 4th at 8.30pm they are replaying the two part mini-series of Flood which has Hayley's haunting vocals in it.
Also if you have SKY on Saturdays 9:30pm UK-TV is showing the first series of Jekyll which also has Hayley's vocals in it.

Richard I never got on with Jekyll - only watched a couple of episodes. Flood on the other hand, I enjoyed immensely. Yes, it is a disaster movie, but a pretty good one well worth watching at least once. Hayley's vocals work incredibly well in those scenes where they are heard. Best wishes Grant |

That song and movie have been coming to mind a lot lately.  Unfortunately, when the flood hits here, there will not be beautiful vocals in the background. The Howard-Hanson dam is failing on the Green River at the foothills of the Cascade Mts., and it is inevitable that it will cause flooding somehow or another, either by controlled means, or otherwise. The area where I work is 45 miles away from the dam, but it could take only 40 mins. to get here and flood us. It runs by almost just across the road from my work. There's a bend in the river just as it passes, and it will probably come rushing out at that spot. The Army Corp. of engineers say there's about a 1 in 4 chance of flooding, but I can never figure out if they're referring to any flooding at all, or just the worst case scenario (total failure of the dam). It could happen anytime within the next 6 mos. So, if you notice I'm not here for a long time, that could be why! Hopefully they'll just be able to release water, that way they'll warn us ahead of time, and we get at least a 72 hour notice before they start. Sorry, I suppose I'm going slightly off-topic, but I just thought you might like to know the possibilities ahead of time, so you won't think I'm absent because the forum no longer interests me. Well, it's already started raining some, but not more than usual. And it doesn't even have to be raining for the dam to fail, but it certainly would make things worse.
Unfortunately, they can't really do much to make repairs or assess damage, whatever they need to do until drier weather returns. It's going to take about 2 years for them to plan the rebuilding, and 5 years to rebuild. Apparently, they've already started planning earlier this year, but that's still a very long time.
The maddening thing is, they've probably known about the weakening for some time, but nothing was really done about it, so now the citizens may have to suffer the consequences some way or another.
I'm trying to keep hopes up that they will be able to do controlled flooding, but there's no telling how bad it will be. But at least we'll get plenty of warning and be able to go home before they start. They will release water if the levels start going beyond a certain point.

I do live on a hill way above the area that could be flooded, but there's also concern about how sewer systems will be affected, so we may at least have that to deal with. Oh, they have been building heavy sandbag structures around important buildings (including a Boeing site that holds several extremely valuable machines; forgot what they're called; something to do with planes.  ). It was slightly comforting to see they'd gotten around to building sandbag walls along the railing by the river, including by my work. Hopefully that will help a lot. |
