My take on the American National Anthem, after inspired by beyonce's wonderful performance recently at the inauguration. It's an amazing song, even though I'm not American, haha. Hi all. I'm working on a recording project in the near future and I was considering recording my cover of Hayley's song "Talk to Me." What process would I have to go through to get permission to release this prospective recording?

Hi Rory,
Well, you could try tweeting her to start with to get her attention. Best if you can do it at a time when she is around, ie has just tweeted herself of is about to (yes, I know that is hard to know but sometimes I've tweeted her just before she tweeted and she has seen it then). she is bound to be a bit irregular at the moment, being on tour. Best bet is probably early morning or evening her time. She tends to see the tweets that are sent around the time when she is tweeting herself.
I'm sure she would be thrilled to know someone wants to record one of her songs. She has said she would like to write songs for other artists. Perhaps tweet her the link to your YouTube performance of "Talk to Me".
There might also be more official channels that others could suggest. Note also that Hayley has a co-writer for this song who would need to be consulted no doubt.

Thanks Martin, An official channel would be ideal, but a tweet would be an easy first attempt. I believe Beth Orton is the other co-writer, but likely any progress made getting the permission would involve them both anyway -Rory |

Well I tried a tweet, but alas there was no reply. I got in about 10 mins after she tweeted - wanted to get closer but the tweet notifications on my phone just didn't work. Perhaps Dave or Richard could give me more details on my options regarding this matter
