Thank you Martin! I would appreciate that greatly! I've actually tweeted it to her myself but I imagine with all the tweets she gets she may not have seen it, and I would really like it if she did. And your insight is spot on, played on the guitar and with my lower voice, it was only natural to take a slightly different interpretation of the song, and with my musical roots in rock and blues I felt the need to bring out the natural heaviness and power that I noticed in the song my first listen.
Thanks again!

I liked the different interpretation, it shows you're a talented musician/artist. I retweeted Martin's tweet to Hayley. She could very well see it... if she ever decides to return to twitter-verse.

This is something I just threw together. It didn't quite come out the way I wanted it to, but let me know what you think of the idea of playing vocal melodies on the guitar (although in this case it wasn't originally a vocal melody ). Keep in mind this is just a rough version, I'm looking for a better tone and it needs to be much cleaner. soundcloud.com/rorycosgrove/gabriels-guitarP.S. If I can get a sound that really works I've also been working on La Califfa and Metti Una Sera A Cena -Rory

Loved it Rory. As Libby says you are clearly a very talented musician. I used to play the guitar a bit myself many years ago. So I know what it takes. I will need to get round to listening to some of your original stuff, when I get time. I will, I promise.

Wow thanks guys I'm glad you liked it! lol maybe I'm a perfectionist, but trust me it could be alot better. I always love playing other instrument/vocal melodies on the electric guitar; it's not enough to figure out the notes but you have to match the dynamics and phrasing as well, which is a challenge I very much enjoy. I think La Califfa will come out nicely - it has a slightly more rigid rhythm making it easier to play at a steady tempo. If I like the way it comes out I'll be sure to post it

Well she's back on twitter! I really hope she sees it, I mean if she doesn't like it that's one thing but it just bugs me that with the ease with which she could see it that she still may not. The ultimate test of a cover is to receive the validation of the artist who wrote/performed it. Either way thanks again for all of you who tweeted/shared/viewed my video! -Rory

I've tweeted it to her again. I hope she will see it. It works the other way too Rory, a songwriter is encouraged when other artists think their songs are worth covering. We all think Hayley is a very decent songwriter, especially lyricist, and would like to hear more of her stuff. You only have to listen to her wonderful Japanese Songs albums to realise that (do you know them Rory?) Her main problem seems to be her own modesty, she doesn't rate herself highly enough. So any encouragement is a good thing in my opinion. For me, her compositions are the highlights of any album they appear on.

That's a good point. Even if they totally butchered it, I would be extremely flattered to see someone covering one of my songs. And yes, I do know the Japanese albums, they're fantastic. I'm particulary fond of A Thousand Winds and Itsumo Nando Demo (Many Times Always), which is actually the song that I discovered Hayley from. I was trying to listen to the original track which is the music at the end credits of Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away," one of my favorite movies, when I saw an "English version." I had no idea who this angel was, but obviously I found out, and the rest is history . I never imagined someone could have a face to match the beauty of that voice... -Rory

I bet you're the only American fan who discovered her through one of her Japanese songs! 9 times out of 10, American fans (at least these days) knew her first from Celtic Woman. Then again, I'm probably the only one who discovered her through an AARP magazine that my dad was sent in the mail! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif So, really it was my dad who discoverd her.

seems many of us discovered her in interesting ways. I actually owe it to my mom, come to think of it. She picked up "Spirited Away" for me randomly even though I had little interest in it originally. Who knew what an effect that would have, leading me to discover one of my all time favorite artists, and frankly, one of my all time favorite people! -Rory
