Rebecca Newman opened her set with a nice rendition of 'World in Union' at a charity concert in Eastbourne last night I am happy to say that I have not yet experienced Paloma Faith's version

I shall hold Paloma Faith personally responsible if England fail to beat Australia tonight and so become the first host country in history not to qualify for the knockout stages of the Rugby World Cup !! If so the England team clearly did not find her version inspiring enough !!

More evidence of fans uninspired by Paloma Faith:

Well, says it all really. Watching the match yesterday I screamed in pain every time I heard Paloma's song, but not once during England's woeful performance against Australia. But that won't do either, both are national embarrassments. I think this country is going to the dogs.....

Martin D Will Stuart Lancaster become another in a long line of England rugby coaches to be sacked ? Paloma Faith's biggest fan certainly thinks so.

Hi Martin, Three things: Ashes, Davis Cup, Tour De France, World Athletic Championships... four things... Dave Good to see you're keeping your sense of humour Dave and are not overly distraught at your beloved Manchester United getting hammered 3-0 at Arsenal on Sunday ! I'm pleased to say Bournemouth are above Chelsea in the league, then again most teams are ! I wonder who will be first to be sacked, Lancaster or Mourinho ? Sorry I'm off topic but so was Monty Python ! Did someone mention Monty Python ? and since this is a forum about singers we'd better have a song.

There's a recent article about Paloma's version of WiU which I won't bother to post here. Unfortunately, it mentions Hayley's version as being one of the most "controversial" renditions, because somebody or other said that she didn't "add anything to it". Well, I see opinions to the contrary nearly every day! Perhaps it's due to the fact that Hayley sang it the way it should be done, not trying to make it different, ruining it in the process. Anthems and songs like this one are meant to be sung as they were meant to be sung! Nobody likes a butchered national anthem; this is the same situation.

Hi, Here's the item - "The 2011 version by Hayley Westenra, sung at the opening ceremony in New Zealand, which Mr. Skarbek condemned, saying 'it really doesn't sound too special, and doesn't really say anything new.'" (Skarbek is the lyricist.) I agree, except that it was Ria Hall, not Hayley, who sang at the opening ceremony. BobS www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJG1fReve-E

Hmm, I wonder if he's mistaken. Maybe he thought that was Hayley! Or maybe he's just not a Hayley fan!
