Hello Libby! I can't see any point in Hayley going to the ITV studios every day to sing "World In Union". I'm sure they'll just play her recording. The full English and Maori versions are still available on the Universal Music NZ site. Richard

Both versions are just hair-raising and if they don't raise Hayley's recognition and standing worldwide then I'll eat my hat (providing it's chocolate!).
Assuming that the song will be played during the opening and closing credits to each televised match, I wonder (and hope) that Hayley will be shown singing the anthem. This was very effective in the 2008 UEFA European Football Championships when English soprano Natasha Marsh sang the "Queen of the Night' aria from Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'.

At previous world cups, the artists performing that song sang it during the opening ceremony. It wouldn't surprise me if Hayley did too!
Oh, and Hayley has accordng to Wikipedia, been involved before. I think I vaguely remember it.
"2007 All-Star version of the song, featuring singers from the major rugby-playing nations including New Zealander Hayley Westenra, Italian Roberto Alagna, Welsh singers Katherine Jenkins, Elin Manahan Thomas, Aled Jones and Bryn Terfel, English singers Lesley Garrett and Jonathan Ansell, the British group All Angels and the Australian ensemble The Ten Tenors."
Actually that Wikipedia entry needs updating for the 2011 version(s). Might do it whaen I find out more details.
Oh, and for completeness, previous versions were:
1991 — Kiri Te Kanawa in England 1995 — Ladysmith Black Mambazo and PJ Powers in South Africa 1999 — Shirley Bassey and Bryn Terfel in Wales 2003 — United Colours of Sound in Australia 2007 — All Stars in France

I'm sure they'll just play her recording. Well, that is what I meant. They can turn the recording on live at the games.

The Umusic link no longer has either version available for listening.

Hello everyone, Well the Rugby World Cup has started and Hayley does indeed sing the opening to ITV's coverage in the UK. I have recorded this morning's one minute introduction from their first programme in the series - the opening ceremony - and you can see it on the HWI website as below. It is also on our Youtube channel. Rugby World Cup Intro on ITV - Hayley's World In UnionOn Youtube directly, it's: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGBYpzwlAo4Cheers, Dave

Thanks for that Dave- I watched the opening ceremony but I missed this somehow! :/ also just before a couple of the breaks they played a couple of seconds of it...but the rest they played part of the chorus where and so you couldn't hear Hayley much :/ I hope they play it some more best wishes Sing

Hi Libby, That's just random rugby clips taken by the Youtuber off several different TV stations, probably using Hayley's actual single as the audio track (so I will have to remove it, sorry). Anyway, there are much better quality versions already out there on Youtube (but none as good as the actual single some of us have been lucky enough to be able to buy. ) The clip I uploaded today is the final version of what is the subject of this thread, Hayley singing a special shortened version in two languages, as the "Voice of ITV" for the introduction to all their UK Rugby World Cup programmes. With three or four shows a day on most days, for seven weeks, it is sure to be uploaded many more times before it all finishes but luckily, I managed to get in there first with the ITV version (for a change! ) Hopefully it will help to raise Hayley's profile further in the UK. Dave

Oh, well, at least Matt got to see it before you deleted it. Well, I didn't know it wasn't for TV. It looked too good for that. I didn't think an amateur would go to that much trouble!
