Hello Libby! You can get a free download, but only if you sign up to Mary-Jess's mailing list. Here's her tweet complete with the photo: Richard

Thanks. I'm not worried about the download (probably can't from the US anyway), I just was curious as to what song it was.

It is actually a very nice a capella rendition. Libby, you've nothing to lost by trying.

Martin, the US can't download music from the UK. It's that simple. Anyway, as I said, I wasn't asking because I necessarily wanted the song. I was just curious. I think I've heard TWIW plenty of times in the last 9 years. I'm ready for new music, specifically by Hayley.

I'm pretty sure I've downloaded music from the UK in the past. But, either way, I just signed up for Mary-Jess' mailing list so I'll let you know if it works or not.

Well, on Amazon UK, say, you certainly can't do it. I remember I wanted to download one of the World in Union tracks (can't remember which one, or if it was available in the US or not), but on Play.com, it said only UK residents could do so. Someone here suggested using a UK address when I put my info in. I did, and it worked, but later on, they found out, and I probably couldn't go there again. Actually, I think I did try to, to get the track from Jonathan Ansell's album, but I couldn't. I'm glad I got the WiU track, but I don't like the feeling that I cheated; it's not a comfortable feeling, and I don't ever plan to do it that way again. Especially somewhere like Amazon, I can't lose my account there. Anyway, for the 3rd time, I do not actually want another Water is Wide, thank you. I can't say that I wouldn't be interested in hearing her version once, but that's probably it. I rarely bother with Hayley's version anymore (how many times can you listen to it in 9 years?) Okay? The End.

Libby, it seems to me, though I could be wrong that it is record companies that impose these restrictions on downloads. If the material is copyright, they may wish to make it available only in certain countries. That is my experience. Artists like Mary-Jess, who are not contracted to a record company generally make their recordings available anywhere in the world.
I too have heard many versions of "The Water is Wide" but I still enjoyed hearing Mary-Jess. It is actually quite rare for M-J to perform or record a CC "standard"; usually she goes for original material, or if not original, done in a different way.

Martin D Thank you for that information, Martin. I just assumed all music downloads were only available in the country of origin. Again, Martin, I certainly wouldn't mind hearing Mary-Jess' version once, as I'm sure it is very nice, and I CAN get it, and since it won't cost any money, maybe I will. But, in general, I'm just a bit weary of the song itself. I love Hayley's version, but I almost never listen to it anymore. And I'm not likely to listen to Mary-Jess' more than once. These songs just don't do it for me anymore. That's why I (and all of you) are beyond ready for Hayley's new music, because there are likely to be far fewer tiresome classics, if any.

Worked for me! They just send you a Dropbox link and you download it from there. -Taylor Taylor, did they send the Dropbox link in the "subscription confirmed" email or did they send a separate one? I haven't received a link yet

Mary-Jess has just announced her winter concert tour, to promote her forthcoming new album. Here are the dates...
You may notice that Mary-Jess will be performing at my church, as well as other similar locations including John H's church. I'm very excited about that.
I will post the contact details for tickets when available.

Here are the album cover and the tracklisting on the back: I'd love to hear her version of Breath of Heaven. I used to wish Hayley would do that one, too, but I'm sure this one will be great, too. I'm also looking for just the right version of In the Bleak Midwinter; maybe Mary-Jess' will be the one. I like Sarah Brightman's, but her voice is just a little too... I don't know how to describe it. The classic Sarah Brightman sound, but a little overdone. A little nasally and quavery for my liking. I will want to hear the rest of the tracks before I buy it, though. And how many Silent Nights do you need?
