Mary-Jess has a sweet and unique voice and her songs "Glorious" and "Everything Can Wait" are ear candy of the highest order.

Hey guys - surprised more people haven't commented - Mary-Jess is fabulous and should have a very pleasing voice for Hayley fans in general. That, and her material is original. <3 She got a glowing review in the Daily Express today. Check out her new website www.mary-jess.com

Well, I think she tries to sound like HayleyG and look like HayleyW. I like them both better! She is talented for sure, but she needs to find her own identity.

Woah! Totally disagree. Mary-Jess is highly distinctive - there's no one else in the market like her. And I doubt she tries to sound like Hayley Griffiths as it's unlikely that Mary-Jess has even heard of her. As to her look, which is obviously been given the oriental treatment - I thought she looked more like Faryl Smith than anything like Hayley - but it's not her fault if she was born to look like someone else. She looks nothing like Hayley and their style is not the same either.
I just don't understand what you mean by find her own identity. She writes her own material and is clearly driven by her success in China which gives her the unique Chinese style you hear in her music and see in her image. Mary-Jess simply hasn't been done before. How much did you look into her?

Hi Nicola, The imagery is Chinese, but I tend to ignore imagery and listen to the music. Most people these days seem to listen to music with their eyes, so it might work. I am all in favour of the originality of her material. But her voice does not blow me away. Adequate, yes, but not stunning.

The Chinese is in her music - both lyrically and instrumentally, it's not just her image. Fair enough if you are not that impressed with her voice. 70 million people in China disagree with you, though! I hope she will impress you over the coming months.

I thought she looked more like Faryl Smith than anything like Hayley Many people at the Classic Brits thought the same. Not surprisingly, they got no response when they started calling out Faryl's name Although Mary-Jess sang a number of "standards" during her Chinese "X Factor" performances and on her recent tour with Russell Watson, the oriental influence is unmistakable in everything on her EP 'Glorious'. I fully expect the same theme to continue with her full album 'Shine'.

I bought her album yesterday after seeing a clip of her song :Glorious' on iTunes which I was instantly hooked on- i havent been able to get that song out of my head since- well, more of a mixture of Glorious and part of Hayley's Whispers in a Dream!- awkward haha- and I really like it- she has a great. clear voice..I really like all the songs on her album too...I think Are you the way home? and Glorious are the best two- I wish her every success in the future- hopefully she will be successful in the UK and abroad too- especially after her success in China.. best wishes Sing

Mary-Jess simply hasn't been done before. How much did you look into her? Hello ! Nicola ! & Hi ! Guys ! I actually beg to differ on your opinions about Mary-Jess . What I think is that ........... YES !!! She is just GREAT & is just immersely talented ~~~ However, she is actually NOT that unique , at least NOT unique in the way like ............ like in a ***has-never-happened-before*** kind of way. I just feel that Mary-Jess is very very smart ......... in the way she knew how to play "COPY-cat" on Sarah Brightman's idea when Sarah released Harem back in 2003 . MJ knows how to add something new into her "recipe" . If you look at the whole thing in the fashion of a Maths Equation / Formula : Sarah's HAREM = Classical Crossover + Arabian Folk music + Ancient Persian Folklore + Visual Effects MJ's SHINE = Classical Crossover + Chinese instrumental music + a bit of Bekingese-style Chinese Opera + Visual Effects & if the audience could have a bit of better memory , I guess .......... The Vienna Boys' Choir actually released a CD called "The Silk Road Journey" several years ago . That CD basically = Classical ChoirBoys + Ancient Turkistan Folk Music + Visual Effects So , THAT particular formula actually has been used many times before . But ANYWAY, MJ is still, imho , a great artist in her own way & I really wanna commend her on her guts & her unique "touch" towards her "CC flavours" album ----- <Shine> .
