I recently encountered Mary-Jess on the Classical Crossover site and was pleased to see her as a topic here and so I felt compelled to read every post. While reading the posts I had a sudden and unsettling feeling that I had somehow been transported to the Amazon forum. I have come to the realization that while there at Amazon and at the offical Jackie site as a fan that I had mutated from being a fan to fan(atic) and was closing out all the other wonderful artists. I see that happening here and it disturbs me somewhat. I now know that I have capacity within in me to enjoy others and look upon them as being unique in their own way. Perhaps we can look at classical crossover genre as a rugby team in which one star cannot win by themself. It takes all players giving whatever talent and skill they have. And that's my two cents.

You will hear Mary tonight after the X-Factor. She sings the theme song for Downton Abbey!

Martin D I rather like it too , that's the third CD I have now with that track on it The rest of her album 'Shine' is wonderful as well. Mary-Jess sang two songs from her album in Gloucester Cathedral last Friday, in a concert showcasing local musical talent from around Gloucestershire. ‘Glorious’ and ‘Lighthouse of Mine’ were sung to a simple guitar accompaniment, holding the audience spellbound and generating the most enthusiastic applause of the evening (or am I biased? ) I met Mary-Jess during the interval and found her to be a delightful, friendly person. Mary-Jess also rejoined the Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir (where her performing career began at age 9) for a performance of Shenandoah, singing the first verse solo. I don’t compare Mary-Jess with Hayley; I love them both.

hi, everyone I don't think MJ's music contains a lot of Chinese elements except 'Are you the way home' and 'A love before time' (and 'a love before time' seems a bit strange actually...'), and her voice is too weak for CC songs. But she really did well on some tracks, as some of them are kind of new age style and reminds me of Enya. I love that. Btw, speaking of singing in Chinese, I do believe Hayley did better. However don't forget MJ has studied Chinese and (I think) she can speak Chinese in everyday life; and Hayley just sang it...

A little late and kind of off topic, but I just got around to watching the first series of "Downton Abbey"for which Mary-Jess did the song and that is one seriously addicting show. Good on her for getting that opportunity.

I like Mary-Jess and Laura Wright both but I don't know much about them and can not write anything in the forums.
I hope she records more music and not only one album.
