The two stand-out tracks for me are 'Malena' and 'Once Upon A Time In The West'. My third choice is 'The Edge Of Love'.
'Here's To You' is a beautiful melody and beautifully sung, but it gets a bit monotonous for me. Part of the chorus of 'Amalia Por Amor' sounds like its sung backwards. Nice song though.
'Malena' is one of those little gems that Hayley produces on every album. Definitely my favourite.

How can you tell whether a song is sung backwards or not? What's backwards about it?

How can you tell whether a song is sung backwards or not? What's backwards about it? From 0.56 to 1.01 particularly, it sounds like its played backwards. I think its the change in tempos. Maybe its just me Try this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPakEG0FjZM

I've listened to it often enough that I'm pretty familiar with the music in the song. I can't figure out how to tell that it's backwards. I enjoy every part of the song. So what if it is backwards, anyway? It sounds amazing either way!

I voted for "Malena", this one was love at first hear, I loved it since I heard the samples.
"La Califfa" and "I Knew I Loved You" were my other two choices.
But all the songs are great, "Here's To You" is the one I like less, and it's a pleasure to hear Hayley singing in Portuguese.

Hi F/R I love that piece too. You should listen to Raven do it. They are great. It would be nice to see Hayley and Raven team up on it with Hayley's lyrics. Actually I've had Paradiso playing in my car since I received it from Marbeck's in N Z. As much as I love all of Hayley's albums, I think this one shows her versatility better than any other. I'm hoping this album finally gets Hayley the accolades worldwide that she deserves. Larry

I wonder if Raven would be included in the orchestra that Hayley will be having on tour. I would guess not, but you never know.

Hi everyone,
I see that Whispers In A Dream is currently narrowly in the lead as our favourite track (though it was not in my personal top 3, it was close).
But what strikes me about it now, when I hear it, is how very different it sounds from Nella Fantasia, surprisingly different considering that they are both Gabriel's Oboe. In fact, after listening to Whispers In A Dream, I usually find it hard to even recall Nella Fantasia or how it is arranged, which for me is a testament to the high quality of Hayley and Ennio's breathtaking version.
I wish I knew why so many singers think they have to belt it out (Nella Fantasia) like they do, perhaps they are quite simply incapable of producing the kind of exquisitely tender performance that we love so much from Hayley? Or perhaps they just go for the kind of "big voice" populism that Hayley never has done? I don't know why, but I wish I did.
Cheers, Dave

I agree, this version is so much more beautiful. I don't know if it's just the arrangement, or maybe it's the words, which are in a different language, make it sound more clear and more smooth, somehow. Nella Fantasia has all the Italian accent stuff, whereas Whispers seems to flow more smoothly. The words themselves give a different quality, too.
The version of Nella Fantasia I've heard is by Chloe Agnew of Celtic Woman. I wouldn't say she belted it out. Her voice back then was very soft and delicate, and innocent sounding. I think it's very lovely. Her voice now is stronger and perhaps leaning more towards "big voice" (which makes me worry she'll leave to do pop, instead).
But Whispers has a more stunning quality: the arrangement, Hayley's voice, and the lyrics themselves.

Well, I most remember Katherine Jenkins' version of Nella Fantasia - there is also Sarah Brightmans version of course, but I am most familiar with Katherines. And like the rest of you, I don't really regard it as the same song as WIAD even though the melody is the same.
Hayley is Hayley, she does things her own way - and she has made this song her own. I love it (and it IS one of my top three).
The song that has grown on me most though is The Edge of Love. The way Hayley uses her voice on this is exquisite. And she interprets it superbly. It is very beautiful.

I love Whispers, I think now I find other versions of nella fantasia- especially the more 'belted out' ones not as nice to listen to, but I suppose its all about personal choice. I agree with you martin The Edge of Love is a grower and the other one that has grown on me is I Wonder Would He Even Know Me Now- beautiful lyrics and as with all the songs orchestra is amazing, I love how Hayley sings with so much emotion like with Edge of Love and all of them pretty much!! She always gives a really sincere performance like each song is special to her.

True, they are not all "belted out", I was thinking of the Il Divo version, Russell Watson's and perhaps Paul Potts too. Also, a lot of them have "heavy" orchestral and choral backings, which adds to the impression of belting them out I suppose. Hayley's version is truer to the Gabriels Oboe main theme I think and is (obviously going to be!) much closer to how Ennio himself envisaged its performance, and has performed it orchestrally. Hayley and Ennio's version is like a whole new song, and I don't only mean the words! Martin D and Susie, I'm glad to say that The Edge of Love was my no. 3 song choice in the poll, I love it! Cheers, Dave
