The other aspect of the differing views on the video is that it has generated a lot of publicity for Laura. Decca will be chuffed!

I personally wish I could watch it so I could see what all the hubbub is about, but unfortunately I can't watch it over here across the pond as "the uploader has not made it available in my country."

I will try uploading the two videos as 'unlisted' on Youtube, hoping that I can beat the geo-copyright restriction. Whatever we think of it, it's definitely a subject worth discussing! I will post the link within 12 hours, if my upload isn't blocked by Youtube's content ID system. Cheers, Dave EDIT - Drat, uploaded video was blocked Worldwide. I'll upload it somewhere else, on Sunday.

It's definitely a black mark for Classic FM here. You really shouldn't pass judgement on Decca's video until you've seen Laura's, which Classic FM didn't mention. Richard

Hi everyone, especially members outside the UK who may not be able to view Laura's new Youtube videos. I have uploaded them to an unlisted page on our website, purely for the purpose of criticism and review and in my opinion, I think both videos need to be viewed in full to get the full picture. Having got the 'legal' stuff out of the way, the videos can be found on the following page at HWI (but do not appear in the usual menus): Laura Wright - Barber's Agnus Dei/The Sound Of Strength (and explanation)I hope it works, it's the first time I have done this! I very much like the actual song, by the way, Laura sings it beautifully. But it's not UK classical-charts material due to the drums etc. It's probably best if we don't link to that page on Facebook etc. Cheers, Dave

Oh dear ! Here's something else I WON'T be buying !! I know with a new Hayley album not out for another year or so and no UK tours planned some of us are getting bored but I'm not THAT bored ! I mean really. Like Dave it makes me sad but I suppose page 3 readers will like it ! I've just watched the video again (8 hours later) just to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. Mind you, the librarian gave me a very strange look ! (They have filters to block porn from public computers and monitor usage since children use the library). I managed to persuade him HWI is a good upstanding site that shouldn't be blocked and he saw the funny side when I said I didn't know which was worse, the song or the thong ! I told him to look out for Laura on that well known religious programme "Thongs of Praise.!" Is that a rumble of thunder I hear ? No, just Samuel Barber turning in his grave !

Hi all,
Having just watched the two videos (thanks Dave!) I have mixed feelings. To me the video is a long Nike advert two years too late. Laura can get away with mixing sport and singing, and can be a positive role model for young girls. However the sacred song choice of Agnus Dei and seeing Laura in a wedding-dress skirt with that skimpy top was a bit much.

Laura Wright will be performing at the Edinburgh Festival from 8 to 10 August 2014. The work was first staged on Holkham Beach in Norfolk in August 2012, and here's a video clip: Jocelyn Pook wrote the music for 'Bridal Ballad' from the Merchant of Venice, sung by Hayley Westenra. Caroline Wright is Laura's mother. Richard

I'm glad I'm not the only one Joe... Martin D No Martin, you're not the only one. There are at least four of us ! IMHO Laura will regret this in time and indeed may already be a laughing stock in classical circles, the butt of many jokes you could say ! Her career certainly seems to have hit a bum note right now ! Whenever I look at singers other than Hayley I always seem to end up disappointed. Camilla is currently appearing in an opera called "Life from Light." Wikipedia says: "The work also features some graphic depictions of sex....." Well, if it's all the same to you Ms Wright and Ms Kerslake I'll give your shows a miss. I'm having a quiet night in !

A few posts in this thread have been edited to remove possibly inflammatory language. Opinions on the Laura video and the Camilla opera are strongly divided and that's fine, just try to keep language and any analogies moderate, please. I've moved the follow-up posts regarding Camilla Kerslake to her own thread. Dave
