Hello Devotedfan

Promotional CD's are usually distributed to radio stations and the like. I have heard of fans writing to record companies to obtain promotional material but often, it is not public knowledge that a particular promotional CD exists until one appears on Ebay.

That's how I got this one.

Hello folks!

This blog by Simon Sweetman is really about Ennio Morricone, but I'll quote a couple of paragraphs which are very complimentary about Hayley and 'Paradiso':

More recently he recorded an album with Hayley Westenra. Where I had previously had little interest in Westenra as a performer I was curious about Paradiso. I had to hear it. I loved it - Hayley was great. And of course Morricone's pieces, including new arrangements of some of his legendary film scores, were resplendent. He conducted the orchestra and though it was a genius-stroke marketing-wise - lend gravitas to Hayley with a living-legend and allow Morricone a shot at a new audience - I never felt it was just about that conceit, that manipulation. It felt sincere. And I had no real reason to get on board. I'd never really been a fan of Westenra and I could have listened to any of the Morricone compilations or soundtracks/suites that I had without Hayley.

Still I found myself writing an open letter to Westenra in praise of the album.

And then I interviewed her. It was clear she was full of respect for Morricone. She kept referring to him as "the Maestro" - the correct title - but there was something about the way Westenra constantly spoke of him, using only this title. She never thought to call him Mr Morricone, or Ennio, he was the Maestro, the master. He had been her teacher and, she told me, "a tough taskmaster" but it had been one of the most rewarding musical experiences of her life. Understandably.

Oh bother !

I was reading the blog about Hayley and the Maestro and for a split second I forgot (My computer crashes if it goes to YouTube or other video content sites) A problem I have not been able to resolve for some six months or more.. I simply don't know how.

Yep.. I clicked on a link it went to one of The Maestro's greatest short compositions Chi Mai on YouTube and promptly crashed.

Hey all! As yall know, Hayley broke the number of #1 albums by an NZ artists with "Paradiso" a while back. I just stumbled upon this article from Umusic, and it just kinda made me chuckle.

¡Si Sr. Sukenick! I'm just usually pretty careful about my typing. So even though that last one is a small error, it still annoyed me that someone could look over something like that. Oh well, I enjoyed the article anyway.

While I definitely remember that photo well, I don't ever remember seeing it as a potential cover photo for the album.
