Well done New Zealand! Next up - an easy game against world champions, Italy! It was strange to hear New Zealand's anthem without Hayley singing it though. It hasn't exactly been a great world cup so far. Maybe that will change tonight when Brazil play.

Hi all!
Wow... brilliant goal by NZ!
At work, I have the MSN Sport / World Cup page on my computer. The first of the three daily matches starts at 7.30, my clocking-in time. So I can catch the live commentary plus the page refreshes every two minutes.
Well, watching the 80th minute go by, I started to think "come on lads, let's see you equalise" and started humming a few bars of Pokarekare Ana ! Hmmph, 82', 84' watch' that screen refresh into added time. Then there it was NZ 1-1 Slovakia! I shouted "Yes, the equalizer" quite loud...I don't think my work mates heard me or my slapping my desk! Well done All Whites! You're All Right! One point is better than no points.
Cheers all, Joe

You know when Hayley really has a hold on you when you support New Zealand more than the UK !!! Actually James there is no UK team. There is England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland. Only England qualified this time. I would love to see NZ do well. It is the English love of the underdog I think though (and my own support for Hayley). Martin D

Like everyone else these vuvuzelas are getting on my wick. We should retaliate ! What a pity Scotland didn't qualify then the Scots fans could take their bagpipes into the games and reply in kind.

Hello Jeff! I think the bagpipes were invented when somebody was milking a cow and squeezed too hard! Richard

Spain just lost after dominating the match against a Switzerland that played the italian deffensive variant of the game. Switzerland only had 2 clear occasions, but one of them ended up in a goal. Well, Spain is the next in the big list of favorites who started playing badly... For now, only Germany reached the expectatives.

I'm pleased to hear that my local club, Leicester City, have banned vuvuzelas in their stadium. Good for them, I was deading the coming season. I also hear some UK supermarkets are refusing to sell them. Good on them too.
I wonder if that ball was a factor in Spain's defeat. It certainly sounds as if it was against the run of play. That means the best team lost! If defenses are going to dominate so much, it means that once again the World Cup will be decided on penalties, not football. Penalties are a different game altogether, and it seems unlikely that the best football team will win the competition if a significant number of games result in penalty shoot outs in the knockout stages.

For an amusing take on vuvuzelas make sure you visit the BBC iplayer to see last night's World Cup highlights on Match of the Day (BBC2 at 10pm). The programme starts with Archbishop Desmond Tutu holding forth on the vuvu but he soon meets his match if you'll pardon the pun !!
