Congratulations to Spain! I'm off to Valencia in August, cheap beer for a few weeks to celebrate would do just nicely i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCommiserations to Holland, although in my opinion the best team of the tounament came third. Hollands defeat means that New Zealand are the ONLY undefeated team at the 2010 World Cup. Now I don't know what I am going to do with myself- No football for five weeks! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifDazza

Huh, that was a match! Holland was without doubt the hardest rival for Spain in the championships, they played very tough, yes, but also very effectively, Spain wasn't very confortable, but afterall, individual quality made the difference. All the respects to the rival Holland, a very good match. Thanks to everyone who have congratulated Spain. YAY, Spain is the World Champion!

I suppose the best team won the World Cup, even though I'm not a big admirer of Spain's style of play. I thought Holland played the better football in the tournament, just not tonight when it really mattered (but I'm just happy another team in orange won today ). It was a disappointing final. I was just relieved one team won it before a penalty shoot-out. But, credit to Spain. Now European and World Champions.

I started the match wanting Holland to win, although I expected Spain to win. However, by half time I had changed my mind because of the excessively aggressive tactics adopted by Holland, in an effort to disrupt Spain's passing game. It worked too, to a point - but I was not happy about the way they went about it and thought they were very fortunate to have 11 men still on the pitch at half time. In any other match, I think they would have had at least one man sent off by then, possibly two - that kick in the chest was a clear red card offence in my opinion. Having said that, I think Howard Webb the referee was right to be more lenient than usual as sendings off early in the game would have ruined it, and it's meant to be football's showpiece, with massive Worldwide audiences. The Dutch tactics did, however, cause many neutrals like me and my brother-in-law to switch their support during the game and I was pleased when Spain finally got the winner. Thank goodness there was no need for one of those dreadful penalty shoot-outs. However, it was not one of the better World Cup Finals that I've seen - and I have watched them all since 1958 !!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifDave

Up late today, but ofcourse I have to congratulate Spain with their victory!
And ofcourse Congrats to the the Spanish members here on HWI!
As I have read on Wikipedia, Spain hasn't ever reached the finals of the WC. So it is great to win it at the first time! NL has had now 3 times the chance to win the WC. Maybe next time!
As Joyce said, we are still second of the world!

I see Spain want to buy the octopus but he's not for sale ! I saw on a wildlife programme recently that the octopus is the most intelligent creature in the sea. Must be true !
