Hi Steve and Richard, No I don't think we should chat about Hayley's spiritual side, in fact its possible she doesn't want to go into it herself, hence the reason she has never gone into detail about that particular subject before, so my hopes that she will appear on the show again just to talk probably wont happen. I was mesmerized by Hayley, Richard so I didn't really catch all of what she said. She mentioned why she grew up singing spiritual songs I think, and she also said she didn't always go to church when she was young or something. I sure someone's recorded the little chat.

Hayley had a little chat before singing too! I hope she comes back to the show sometime just to talk about things spiritual. It would be interesting. Hi Jon. You raise a very interesting topic and I have spent the morning since the broadcast developing a major post on this very subject. It took a little longer than I expected and I observed that someone (probably Dave but it turns out to have been Roger) would have posted the video by the time I was ready to post words. In my original draft I did ask the questiion, 'would the provider of the video keep in the interview?' There was a few minutes of general chat between the Hayley interview and her singing the song which could, but needn't, have been edited out if it were too much hassle to do so. I was enthralled by that chat but I was also enthralled by the programme itself, which I had never seen before. I have now entered a recurring date for that broadcast in my diary. When I came on, just now , Roger was on. It occurred to me to check with him what I'm about to write but he had gone when I just checked. He can comment and correct me later. I think Roger's reason for not posting the interview is to be found in his December post, to which he referred when he and Dave ticked me off for being political. When I have posted this communiquéI will endeavour to find it and add in the direct link to it. hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=offtopic2&thread=1135880942 In short, reference to that December post caused me to axe my intention to share my tour through Wales from Cardiff to Llandudno. This was something of a spiritul journey and through that personal experience I would have linked the Cardiff and Llandudno posts with the history of Welsh culture, its effect on Welsh singing and also tied in our previous posts under the Photography section, dealing with this country's industrial history in the canal and rail networks, bearing in mind our overseaas friends seem to appreciate details of the UK where relevant to Hayley's concerts. After seeing the BBC programme, I decided I would resurrect this idea but finding the interview has not been posted (unless Roger is going to tell me my interpretation as to why not is wrong--and please say if it is) I am not so sure. In fact, I am now less sure of how to interpret the guidelines as a result of this broadcast. This is now going off topic, so I will continue this under a new thread (if any subsequent debate arising out of this makes it relevant) 'All Things In Moderation'. For I think the principles under which we are moderated should be a matter for discussion by all, especially in the light of this morning's events. In my view, the key message from the BBC programme, bearing in mind we are dealing with professionals addressing contentious issues in a multicultufral society.on a public broadcast and therefore should be recognised as being somewhat authoritative, is that those who pussyfoot around contentious issues do more harm than good. Contentious issues should be addressed in the natural course of conversation, debate and exchange and there should NOT be a policy to specifically avoid them. Returning to the Hayley interview, she told us nothing that I personally had not already assessed about her but until now she has chosen to keep them out of the frame. My assessment of her at this point is that she has been finding herself: in her singing, in her public, in her stage confidence, her public confidence. In short, as one would expect but which is not all that common to many young people, she has been on a journey to find herself. As she matures and gains confidence in who she is and what her abilities are, so she will open herself more to the public scrutiny. On political matters she has already implied that 'when I have had a chance to know more, I may make comment'. This is a girl who wishes to speak from the authority of knowledge, or else will hold her peace, but she intends, at the right moment, to be a positive force IN the world and not to avoid issues Within the guide lines of running this site is its raison d'être and that is the support of Hayley. Hayley is beginning to let us know how she found her own way to her God. That is a part of her. It is an integral part of her singing. These are contentious issues but she is not afraid of them when she is ready to address them--nor then, should we be, if we are supporting her. Peter [Edit: Yes, Peter, your assumptions as to why the interview was not included are completely wrong as are your assumptions that I posted it. I merely posted a link to the main site where Simon had uploaded it but had no other involvement. As a general point, had Hayley discussed her faith (or anything else) on public television, HWI would not censor it in any way and, as I have indicated in a later post, I have asked Simon why the interview is not included. However, unless and until Hayley chooses to discuss her faith in public, HWI will respect her right to privacy. Roger] Addendum from Postscript at 18:08 BST. 1. Thank you Roger for your intervention and update.. 2. Entirely agree with respecting her privacy. My comments were ONLY in relation to what she herself had brought into the 'public domain'. 3. As promised, I have brought in the link (not as neatly as you do) but it does work (or did!) to your December post to keep it current and easily findable and remindable. Peter

Hi Richard,
The very short interview was immediately prior to Hayley's performance of 'Down By The River'. I have no idea why Simon has not included that in the video. I shall investigate!

Peter Hi Peter, Perhaps you be kind enough to type out the Hayley interview word for word in a report and send it to those who request to read it? It was just a thought - I may send you an illuminating Hayley 'Pure' pen as an incentive to do so too! What colour would you like- blue, red or green? Regards, Andrew

Thanks Peter, Your right, what Hayley said during the interview I think I do recall her saying something similar in other interviews. However, while it would have been nice to hear Hayley talking about those things, I think that the highlight of the show was Hayley's performance of the song, which I really enjoyed.

Regards, Andrew Dear Andrew, If it is perceived that I am rendering a service, i shall be delighted to post a PM regardless of incentive, although it may not be today. It took me a little longer to draft my original post than expected and then I didn't use it as I discovered the tenor the debate had developed while I had been re-writing! Simply, because I am 'between PCs', currently on a laptop and have not yet planned my strategy for replacing/repairing the desktop one, I lack the memory to do what should be simple and straight forward for me--run the video through Dragon's Professionally Speaking and let it type itself as she speaks! It wasn't that long an interview, so it shouldn't take that long doing it the old 'ham-fisted Remington typewriter way', except I don't have a foot control for the video! Its just other things already pushed to one side for the moment Peter

Hi Richard, The very short interview was immediately prior to Hayley's performance of 'Down By The River'. I have no idea why Simon has not included that in the video. I shall investigate! Roger In which case, first an apology to Simon for failure to acknowledge his work and a 'thank you' to him for his trouble in providing the video. I do recall why it was posted under Roger's name. While there is a possibility of the interview being posted I'll hold fire from typing it out but if, for what ever reason, it isn't going to be posted, then I will provide a transcript as my contribution (at last) to some of the mundane tasks so few do for so many behind the scenes as a matter of course! Hi All,
I thought Hayley expressed herself very well indeed during her TV interview. I love the way she drew the parallel between one's faith and music...
Well done Hayley I'm SO proud of you!!!
I'm sure I'm not alone there...
Thank you SO much for singing 'Down To The River' with all your heart! God Bless you.
Lots of Love
Andrew xxx

Thank you Simon and Roger for providing a video of Hayley's amazing performance of "Down to the River". Comparing this performance with the one on the DVD, Hayley's voice has matured a lot since then. Wonder if the song will ever make it to her future albums? Allen

Hi All, Thanks very much Simon for all your work uploading the 2 clips. I was also thrilled to hear what was actually a brief summary of Hayley's very own Faith walk thus far. We would have heard more but the interviewer talked over the top of Hayley in mid sentence a couple of times & she immediately politely listened! (Hayley that is)
Otherwise I join Andrew in saying:
'Well done Hayley I'm SO proud of you!!! I'm sure I'm not alone there... Thank you SO much for singing 'Down To The River' with all your heart! God Bless you.' Graemek
